Hat’s Off to Matt Gaetz

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

Hat’s off to Matt Gaetz.  He has held the Republican Establishment accountable and removed their man from his position as Speaker of the House.  Whatever the downside of Gaetz’s achievement, Gaetz’s victory is a victory for us.

Forever it seems, the Republicans have talked the talk but haven’t walked the walk.  They align their talk with our concerns about what our children are taught and not taught, about the safety of our streets, about “affirmative action,” about the offshoring of our manufacturing jobs, about living standards, about government’s fiscal irresponsibility, about aggressive foreign policy, but they lack the courage to do anything.

Instead, they align their walk with the teachers’ unions, with the offshoring corporations, with the military/security complex on gratuitous wars that serve only armaments profits, and with aggressive neoconservative foreign policy that threatens nuclear war.

Gaetz said “enough,” and for the first time in history a Speaker has been removed from office.

Whatever the cost, this is an important gain.

Gilbert Doctorow sees it as a life-saving gain. Doctorow thinks, as Jeffrey Sachs, Col McGreggor and I do, that US/NATO involvement in Ukraine is leading to nuclear war with Russia.  With the House now in disarray, the real possibility is created that “there will be no stratagem, no dirty trick that Biden and his fellow war criminals in power can turn to continue assistance to Ukraine.”  In other words, more war funding for Ukraine is possibly dead in the tracks, at least for awhile

Doctorow thinks that the silver lining might even be brighter.  The US Imperial System might collapse from “the scandalous judicial persecution of Donald Trump to remove him from the electoral race in 2024” and from “the treasonous behavior of the sitting president when he served as vice president under Barack Obama.”  Perhaps, Doctorow says, divine intervention will save us from nuclear war.

With Congress in disarray, now is the time for Putin to bring the Ukraine conflict to a quick end before it can escalate further and result in nuclear war, as Putin himself admits is a possibility.  Zelensky cannot stop Russia from seizing Odessa, Kharkov, and Kiev, and installing a Russian friendly government, something Putin should have done in 2014. Now is the opportunity and time for Putin to act and to save the world from nuclear war.

3 more continuing resolutions with no money for Ukraine will end that war. I don’t like it but I can accept that.

What don’t you like about it? Not enough dead Ukrainians in a hopeless war fighting for the most corrupt people on the planet (if you can call child traffickers and organ traffickers people)….

IMO, Gaetz has the balls to act in defiance of the extremely harmful status quo.
Which, like Trump, makes him hugely unpopular and now viewed as a threat to “our democracy”, who must be removed from participating in any way, shape, or form.
Speaking truth to power brings on lightning rod status.
Amazing, how many on the Right have condemned him for his defiance. Gingrich, Levin, and more.

I looked, but can’t spot any ulterior motive by Matt.
Is it all theater? Not sure.
Reaction would suggest otherwise.

IMO, if you go back to the fight for the speakership, Gaetz & his cohorts were quite adamant about getting certain concessions from McCarthy. One of the big ones was no CR and when McCarthy sided with the dems to pass the CR and avoid a government “shutdown”, it was the straw that broke the elephant’s back, so they “fired” him.

I think it is funny that the democrats turned on McCarthy just days after he gave them the CR. I only hope the new Speaker is strong enough to take the war to the democrats and make them sorry for their actions.

Eight Republicans allied with every Democrat to oust the Republican Speaker of the House.
I think the irony is lost on the Dems, who think this is a win for them.
Eight Republicans were pissed off that Kevin McCarthy had allied himself with the Dems, voting for the continuing resolution which included money to be laundered by Ukraine. The Dems were just looking for a chance to oust the Speaker because McCarthy mean.
Now they’ve all voted, and got what they wanted good and hard. Methinks the Dems will be mighty upset when the replacement Speaker turns out to be “worse” than McCarthy.
Well played Mr Gaetz, well played.

If it is Jordan, he is all talk and no action and the dems will have won.

I like anybody – like Gaetz – who says “fuck it” and drops the zippo. Ousting McCarthy should (but won’t) make a couple things clear:

1) quisling McCarthy cut a budget deal with the Dems in exchange for their promise to defend him against a mutiny. Then they immediately fucked him over – all 208 democrats voting with Gates to vacate the speakership. Ha ha. Never trust a democrat. The GOPe take – “we need more bipartisanship”. Retards.

2) think how retarded this shows the (western) Ukrainians to be. Rather than try to get along with the nuclear-armed superpower on their border with whom they share culture, language and religion, they allowed themselves to used by the US as a weapon against Russia and they depended for their security on that same distant US with its political volatility. Now they’re all shitting bricks that they’ll get cut off. And even if the US finds $10-20 billion in the couch cushions, it doesn’t matter, because there’s no extra Ukraine Air Force in those cushions.

It never mattered…Ukraine is a small extremely corrupt country fighting a well armed Russia in a war that’s existential for Russia….Russia has never lost on its home ground…

More like the “O’biden” regime gave Iran the green light. Everything is going to shit worldwide.
It will be here any day. Probably the border areas first. Praying to be wrong.

For anyone truly paying attention to this kabuki theater, the real lesson to be learned is that the democrats are more than 100% unreliable. Only 8 republicants voted to remove McCarthy, while the rest of the needed votes came from the chronic liar side of the uniparty. This seems a bit off, as not-so-crafty Kevin had a back room deal with Piglosi to oppose any movement to remove him as speaker. Sounds a awful lot like the story of the frog and the scorpion.

Kevin promised a lot of people the same swag. Can’t deliver one thing to ten different people. Nancy Mace voted to dump him when she found out he promised her they would be moving to impeach Biden and had also promised the ultra RINOs there would be no impeachment. Since the Speaker controls whether or not subpoenas are issued, and none had been issued after nine months, the lady figured she had been had and took appropriate vengeance. McCarthy is a phony bastard and is owned by Sequoia Capital which funds all the Democrats and is the largest investor of US money into China and the CCP. Kind of odd for the big Dem funding group to have one Republican on the payroll and not be influencing him to go along with their goals which are contrary to Republicans supposed goals. The Frank Luntz thing ought to have waived people off in the first place.
