Reminded me that both of my parents worked in the airplane part factories of Chicago during world war II.
In Charlotte, it was “shell plants” or in Armyspeak, ordnance assembly plants. The women in my family worked in those while the men were in Europe.
I just finished listening to the audio version of The Fourth Turning is Here. At 20-1/2 hours it was a long hard slog, but a semi-worthwhile one.
While I agree with the Generation Report that Neil Howe may have painted too rosy a picture of the next 1st turning, my reasons are different. First, the humongous debt problem faced by the US and world cannot be easily fixed or erased. The level of debt we now face, is levels of magnitude higher than in past 4th turnings. It will screw up any rosy scenario that might happen.
Second, 4th turnings usually end in a big war. If that happens again and nukes are involved, there will not be a new 1st turning, but rather a zero turning.
Third, Howe thinks the US will continue to be the primary empire in the next saeculum. But he forgets that all empires has a past due date. The US Empire is scheduled to be eclipsed just like we eclipsed the Brits.
Finally, Neil Howe tried to be even handed throughout his book. To his credit he avoided saying conservatives or progressive are bad. But, many of his rosy scenarios for the next 1st turning sound like the wet dreams of liberals.
I guess we will see if he is right.
The next turnings will also be a struggle for and against the New World Order.
The Debt issue isn’t insurmountable, you arrest every Red Shield minion you can lay hands, on seize the assets of the banks and corporations that are enslaving the population. Dismantle the Cartel wherever we have the power to do so and issue a gold backed currency through the treasury. Debt forgiveness across the board for the citizens who have been enslaved all this time. Because in the end the debt is owed to the Banks you have just seized, and they won’t exist long enough to complain about it.
Dissolving the central bank and hanging the parasites that have been draining the world dry is exactly what it would take to make that new golden age.
I agree. Cancelling the debt looks simple to me, though not easy. Central bank debt consists of funny money that was loaned into existence. Those who hold the loans didn’t have the money to lend in the first place, so that money just evaporates when hard money returns. The hard part is taking back everything in the way of real property, including precious metals, land and commodities “owned” by the elites who were the recipients of the funny money created by fiat.
Of course, I ain’t an economist.
I believe the entire concept of 4th turnings is misunderstood. What is most misunderstood about cycles, is the fact that there are cycles within cycles. Short term cycles and long term cycles.
There may be a golden age coming out of a short term turning cycle, but a long term turning cycle can last decades or even centuries.
We know looking back on geological historical records that the earth goes through cycles, both short and long term, and the quality of your life is determined mostly by the luck of when you were born.
If you are born at the beginning of an Ice Age, or a Mega Drought, your life is going to be a struggle for survival, and generally life will suck pretty bad.
Some cycles are not brought on by environment, but from social cycles as happened in the World Wars and the Dark Ages.
The people of the entire continent of Europe created a living hell for themselves purely due to a times of nearly psycopatic social self destruction.
Most of us understand on a instinctive level we are heading into self destructive social cycle, but what we do not know is if it will be short term as in the Civil War or WW2 or long term such as the Dark Ages.
Roman subjugation invented serfdom before it was called that. A Dark or Middle Ages seems nearly certain.
If we are forced onto a CBDC system, we will be looking at a new Dark Ages. IMO.
This does end well, or why these great lengths to do it? Your naivety of universalism, what’s it gonna take to let go of that idiotic bromide of convenient circle-jerk lamentation. Down votes, fire!
