A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
Anthony Aaron, and Steve C.
Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.
We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.
Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.
We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.
A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.
We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Händel Ode for St Cecilia’s Day, HWV 76
Dunedin Consort conducted by John Butt
For nearly twenty years beginning in 1683, the musicians of London held special celebrations on November 22, the feast day of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music.
Following a church service, there would be a banquet and a performance of a new ode to St. Cecilia, which would praise the power of music.
Handel composed his Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day in a mere nine days, during September of 1739.

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.
Heaven help us…
Thanks again Sunday Crew!Tis always nice and since me life going off the tracks a bit(landlord war I will win,by moving!)a little peace of mind always nice.
As always a rock and roller at heart but feel this selection to a degree still counts(LSO)so here goes:
Have a nice end of weekend and here is a rare pic of James in his band days!
Tina Arena with a chorus of 2,000 performs “Don’t cry for me Argentina”!
The piano is a very complex instrument requiring great skill over the decades to manufacture.
No surprise with all the pounding it gets that it needs a tune up once in a while. Fascinating!

This 50 minute performance by Yuja is special. Outdoors in the square in Munich.
Found this piece on a site that mentioned the Holodomor tragedy 80 years ago.
The visual appears to be UKR soldiers carrying one of their fallen brethren out of respect.
Without taking sides, war isn’t hell for the neocon westerners with an agenda.
War is hell for the men of a country who get thrown into a meatgrinder, and so many are lost.
Sad.
The melody and harmonies in this piece are hauntingly attractive and sung very well, IMHO.
Chilling.
The mood reminds me of Barber’s Adagio for Strings.
Hope you can take an appreciation for it.
A minor correction – I believe the Holodomor ran from 1932 to 1933, so it would be 90 years ago.
Thank you Music Mafia you brighten my life in these gloomy islands. But in two weeks I shall be joining the Global South – I am exiting UK for good on Dec 8 never to return except to gloat! LOL
So to my special Mafia friends, Steve C and nkit – I wish you well and be sure when I am settled in Simons Town in 2024 – as “MacArthur… later wrote: “’I shall return’ seemed a promise of magic to the Filipinos. It lit a flame that became a symbol which focused the nation’s indomitable will and at whose shrine it finally attained victory and, once again, found freedom.”
I too will find freedom in the Global South as the West decends into tyranny. Go well dear friends and run to the hills! See you next year!
Blessings

All the best to you, Peter. May your travels be safe and may the New Year bring you all that ever need. Stay safe my friend.
Peter,
I hope that you and the Mrs. find happiness in returning.
It was a pleasure having you here on SMC and I hope that you will return one fine day. Come back and see us any time. You’re always welcome.
In the meantime may you find peace in your new home.
Steve C.
There is classics and then then this is a bit off the reservation for classical memories for us geriatrics.
