Fellow TPB Regulars that live in the following states of GA, SC, NC or TN, that would like to meet other regulars on the platform, I’m putting together a small get-together at a local Pub / Restaurant that is convenient to most.
If you are interested, let’s take the conversation offline and email me at:
As info, I’ve already heard from 2 others in NE GA.
I am blown away by all the quick responses from fellow TBP contributors in this area of the south. 11 so far and counting, all within 2-3 hours of Helen, GA. (A few are closer and a few are further out).
For those of you considering coming for this lunchtime get-together, you may want to consider an overnight stay in Helen. There are a fair amount of hotels. If you have never been to Helen, GA before, it is a little German style village in the valley of the NE Georgia mountains. There are a lot of shops, eateries, pubs, and a lot of good German beer. Basically, a tourist town in the NE GA mountains.
Many of those that responded have indicated getting together soon as in, “strike while the iron is hot”. So, tentatively, this Saturday, around noon, is the date, in Helen, GA.
The place I had in mind is a restaurant / bar in Helen and is very accommodating with some good food (wings, burgers, steaks, cheese steaks, etc.). They also have a good selections of draught beer and a very good selection of bourbons. Additionally, it is cigar friendly! They sell them or, you can bring your own, if you are so inclined.
Please respond to my email if you are interested.
Helen, GA –
Sadly, I’m at least a 30 hour drive away.
Hoist a glass for me please. There in spirit.
I have galleries in Nashville and Charleston.
The Sportsman’s Gallery (SC) and Paderewski Fine Art (TN)
Yeah, a major hike on the roadways. It would have been very nice to meet you.
The fact is, the whole TBP family of contributors are spread out all over the place. I was surprised to find that there are a dozen or so within a 3 hour drive of NE GA.
Too kind Brewer, the feeling is mutual. There are many here I have grown to respect and enjoy, and a very few who are toxic and are fake and gay.
I am in that part of the world several times a year, but this
year Mrs. CO Artist and I are becoming grandparents for the 1st time, and gaining two lovely daughters from the eldest and youngest sons. We have a very busy spring and summer. One in CA and the other off the coast of MA.
Congratulations! I’m a granddaddy 4 times over now. I only wish they didn’t live 700 miles from me.
Much appreciated.
We are very much looking forward to the wee lad.
It is a boy.
Coast of Mass?!
Uh Oh,either the Vineyard/Nantucket/Block Isle!
The Grey Lady.
Married there, made a kid or two there, and spent 42 years (and counting) fishing, clamming, cooking, sunning, painting, and enjoying there in the warm season. Pierce Gallery is where I show my work. The one winter spent there was one winter too many.
And I’m no trust fund kid. Born and raised in CO.
I just fell in love with a girl there and keep going back because it’s so wonderful.
When you are off the coast of Mass (Nantucket?) maybe you can take a detour up to NH and visit.
We can talk art over bourbon and steaks.
The weather service has just put Helen and the surrounding area in a flood watch alert starting Friday into Saturday. Heavy rain begins Friday night and it is supposed to continue through Saturday.
Helen is in a valley and the two rivers that intersect in town have gone over their banks in the past with this amount of projected rain. I believe it is only prudent to cancel this event, especially with many of you coming from a good distance.
Because of my own personal schedule with commitments over the next several weeks, I would need to reschedule this at some time in the future.
I’m very disappointed that the weather is causing this cancellation but, I believe it is prudent to do so.
I am in onion country here in south GA.
So am I.
In Toombs County?
Can’t wait!
Let’s just buy this place and never leave:

Wow!
Looks like a nice place to go hunting but, $3.25M? >100 pictures and not one picture of the ranch home?
It’s too bad that Billy Carter died years ago and went where ever good people go. I would drive all the way to Jawja to meet & greet Billy. Only knew about him because he was the brother of Jimmah Carter, but he always seemed like a really decent person. I guess the good really do die young.
A date would be nice,am heading down to NC in early April to potentially buy a home with about 50 acres or so,goes before I get there have a lot of backups to look at,so…..,this happens soon perhaps will do a side trip to location, could be a lot of fun!
Perhaps breakfast here?!
I’m in north centeral NC…I’m in!
Sounds like a great idea!
Damn it! I’m in the uppity state of SC.
Well, it’s not like all the rationals are getting together. And I don’t smoke.
How many will be our Langleybots? Do you know a bailiff who will lend you a wand?
Yes. Beware of the glowies.
I’d love to, but we wouldn’t drive more than 3 hours or so. Asheville would be a relatively central location, but it’s liberal as hell. And, GA is a huge state…it’s 4+ hours from Savannah to ATL.
It’s something like 800 miles from NC’s Outer Banks to Memphis…
It’s a good start; you’re on Proton.
It’s an 8 hour drive from Cape Girardeau, so likely I won’t be there. Y’all have a good time.
Thanks. I hope we get a good turnout.
I’d truly like to make the acquaintance of some of you fine folks, but sadly I’m in far SE AZ, not a realistic day trip and beyond my means. Have a ball and mind your backs, it’s ‘spookey’ out there.
Peace, L.
I looked up your handle. Nice choice. How religious are you?
I’m not following you, RD. You looked up my handle?
I did a search on the term ‘Lucretius’. The word is the name of an ancient philosopher. Western culture begins with the acceptance of Greek philosophy in Greek culture. I consider Judeo-Christian values to be interloper values and not truly Western, but the Christian tradition in the West is old now and the case can be made by geographical patina (which is the ultimate basis of any claim b/c law of the jungle). I don’t accept the idea that Christianity is somehow the father of real modern science (Doug Un’s featured review of Schaeffer’s book). Greek philosophy is the first Western philosophy and the scientific method came out of Western philosophy. Rationalism is rare and wonderful.
