“You can all go to Hell, and I’ll go to Texas”

Post by Tim Flood

Davy Crockett said that;  who wants to argue?

My name is Tim Flood, and I’m as regular as any regular guy can be. I have a Facebook profile, which I rarely use anymore – But you can see me and my family. Or maybe not, I think I choked my profile privacy settings way down. I dunno, and I don’t really care.

I found TBP way back in 2008/2009, and have been a quasi-regular ever since. (Although I never reached “Big Dog” status) I think Jim Quinn is the one of the (If not THE) strongest proponents of the First Amendment out there today. Anybody can post whatever they want on TBP, provided you’re willing to back up your ideas. I’m not very active on the site – I have written a few posts in the past, and I’ve made some comments, but I’ve reached a point where I don’t have much to say. I know it’s fucked. You know it’s fucked. For me, I think it’s better to just keep my head down, and my nose to the grindstone. I still browse headlines daily, and I read the posts I’m interested in, and I look for comments from the folks I’m interested in seeing what they have to say.

I’m at the point in my life, I’m trying to get all three of my little eaglets to fly on their own. One has already flown the nest, and is successfully paying rent and going to cosmetology school, and the youngest is set to graduate high school early, and wants to go to college. My oldest is floundering, in her own way, but she’ll find her way when it’s time. (And, by the way, it’s time, NOW.)

The reason I’m writing today is to try and make an appeal for the TBP Spring Gathering in Texas. Recently, Cpt_Obviuos (Hereafter referred to as C_O for brevity’s sake) wrote a post, asking if anyone was interested in coming to Dallas for a ballgame and a gathering of freedom loving people. My thoughts on C_O’s article:

  • 1) It must not have hit the queue at the best time, as the article fell below eyesight pretty quickly. He texted me, and I knew the article was going to hit the page – I was on the lookout for it, and I had to scroll down a good bit to find it. Maybe if this article hits Monday morning, more eyeballs will see it.
  • 2) I thought the response was lackluster, and I thought some of the comments were weak sauce. I wanted to try and make an appeal to make a Texas TBP gathering a reality.

So, with that being said, let me start at the beginning……

I think any regular on this site knows Hardscrabble Farmer. He’s written essays and stories about farm life and how he unplugged from the rat race. He comments regularly here, and most of us enjoy his writings. A few years ago, HSF announced that he was having one final “open gate” July 4th party for all to attend. In other words, if you ever wanted to go and see HSF’s farm live and in person, this was the year to do it. My wife loves nothing more than a trip to someplace new and an adventure – And she has amazing powers of coordination. All I have to do is say, “I want to be here, at this farm, on July 4th – You plan the rest.” That trip still stands out as one of our best family vacations, ever – Eating lobster at that waterfront restaurant on that island in Maine????? Well, that was pretty fucking cool.

But the coolest thing was the gathering at the farm, and getting to meet some of you fine folks. Enough time has elapsed, I don’t remember many of the specific names, but I’ll never forget drinking homemade whiskey with those guys, or touring the farm, or the great conversations we had that day. The thing is this: I spend most of my entire life around “Normies.” It’s really rare for me to find any average person I can discuss ideas with, and to discuss ideas that relate to human freedom is even more rare. Most people are hung up on “Orange Man Bad” or “Biden is the devil” or whatever else the TV and news tell them to be mad about.

C_O and I discussed a Texas gathering last year, and we just could not make it work. And the truth is, I don’t have the bandwidth to try and coordinate or plan something and I don’t have any land to offer for the gathering. But I think the idea of a gathering of freedom lovers and people who understand something about Human Rights has merit – It’s like an itch I can’t scratch anywhere else. And I do have the ability and wherewithal to meetup with people.

So, this year, C_O and I reinvigorate the discussion, and he comes up with the great idea of a Texas Rangers game and some social libations at Texas Live! (https://texas-live.com/) afterwards. The whole thing is easy-peasy. Show up, watch a ball game, drink some beers, go down to Texas Live! after the game, get hammered, shit-faced drunk if you want, and then crawl up to your hotel room. I’ve been to the stadium and Texas Live! a number of times, and have always had a good time.

There seemed to be a couple common objections to C_O’s earlier post:

  • 1) The Texas Heat: Yes, Texas sucks in the summer. June-August can be miserable, and the heat is only remediated by finding your way to one of the local Texas swimming holes. But we’re not talking about June-August. We’re talking about April, when the temps are still tolerable. Even if we had to push back to May, the heat is still bearable.
  • 2) I don’t gather in crowds – I don’t even know how to address this one. I mean, I get it, I guess, if that’s your stance, but it seems limiting to me. I’m not asking anyone to attend Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, or that Gawd-Awful New Years Eve thing at Times Square (My wife researched that one year, and apparently, some people wear diapers, because…….nevermind. I said “Fuck. That.”) I’m obviously not offering a guarantee that nothing can or will happen. I’m saying: I think gathering with a group of like-minded Freedom Loving People might outweigh your desire to isolate.
  • 3) I think there seemed to be the idea that “I don’t want to attend a gathering because I don’t want anyone to know who I am or where I gather.” Maybe this one is a stretch, but I’m just saying that, For me, I don’t care. I don’t care in the sense that I’m not advocating anything except getting together and talking. Nothing illegal about that. And none of us are super-secret squirrels. (On a sidenote, I think C_O was a super-secret squirrel, but I don’t think he’s recording names or what-have-you.) I just think this whole argument is a non-starter. Can you imagine if the Founding Fathers didn’t want to meet in dark, smoky pubs at night to discuss their revolutionary plans? Why, you’d all be speaking English right now!! At the intro to this writing, I shared with you some very basic info about me. I can’t live my life in a place of fear. I’m not some radical revolutionary, unless the desire to see all Human Beings live free is a radical, revolutionary idea.
  • 4) And on a final note, consider that this may not be all about you. This may be about the opportunity to spread your knowledge and awareness to others who may not be as aware as you are. Long story short, I have a cosmically-appointed son, and I’m like the father he never wanted – I’ve gotten him to plug into the idea of Libertarianism, and we’re slowly working on deeper and darker material. His mom took him to NYC recently for his birthday, and I said, “Make sure to look up the Jew tunnels underneath the city while you’re there.” He responded, “Wait. What are the Jews doing tunneling under the city??” “Very good question, buddy, let’s start off with the “Official Answer” and then we’ll discuss other possibilities, as well.” My intent is to bring this young man to the game, so that he can hear and learn from y’all on any topic ranging from the Federal Reserve to the Jew Tunnels in NYC to the moon landing, or whatever else you want to discuss.

In closing, I submit that this gathering holds merit. It’s easy to make the trip (as much as I dislike D/FW, one of it’s advantages is that it’s a super easy city to travel to, and navigate when you get here.) It will be fun – I’m a fun guy to drink with. I love telling tall tales, and I know a couple of dirty jokes. (If my wife decides to attend, she puts the kibosh on dirty jokes, so I know a couple of good mixed-crowd jokes, too!) And my wife is a hoot, also- If there’s karaoke involved, you can guarantee she’s gonna shine – I’ve literally been bought a round of tequila shots just because she’s so talented. And C_O is a cool guy, with lots of interesting stories to share. I cannot imagine the conversations won’t be fun, funny, inspiring, and informative.

Who knows? You might make some new friends. You might find some Texas BBQ that is as phenomenal to you as that Maine lobster was to me. Undoubtedly, you’ll make some connections that will inspire along your own journey to personal freedom.

Is there a selected date? Group ticketing & prices? Scoreboard recognition?

I haven’t been to a game in the new stadium yet (on-foot mobility issues), but could make a try.

@Curtis – Thanks for your interest. No, I don’t think C_O has locked in a date yet – I think at this time, we’re trying to gauge interest. I just sent him him a text to confirm. I will post date as soon as we have it locked in.

As to the other questions, group prices and scoreboard recognition, the answer is no. As far as C_O and I can tell, we’ll be lucky if we can get 1 or 2 to show up. If worse comes to worse, he and I are gonna go, regardless. I’ll keep you posted as we work out details.

I missed the original article on this and am glad you raised it again.
I would be interested in attending.
I disagree with Dallas being an easy city to navigate. Before GPS I would always get lost when driving to OKC but to be fair, I was always just passing thru every time, but there ain’t one single freeway sign with an arrow that’s says Oklahoma City.

I told CO to pick a date. Late April, early May. I’ll run it by my hubs. Dallas is 8 hrs minimum. Flying is too expensive and requires car rental. The biggest problem with Dallas is the traffic.

Taking 2 days off is the problem so it’s up to him. I’m flexible. Set up an email for RSVP and additional info with more detail.

Dealey Plaza and Eagle Pass are on my bucket list. Tacking a couple days onto the meetup might make the package more likely. I’d love to meet you loons.

Dallas sucks. Fort Worth doesn’t. I’m in the Mid Cities, would be open for a meet and greet as well. Tired of normies all around.

A private gathering on a private farm in Maine is a far cry from a public baseball stadium…times have changed, good luck.

Personally I’d love to attend a TBP meetup in Texas but unfortunately Texas is outta reach for me. Its a min two day drive down from where I’m located and just cannot spare the extra days gone.

I live in southern british communista so a midwest meetup would definitely have me there. I’d make the effort even if it were a day drive, beers the next day/evening and a drive back from some roadside campground. Not overly interested in taking in a ‘game’ or some other form of entertainment as I’d prefer meet’n, greet’n and grin’n with some of the good folk from our platform family.

For entertainment we can smoke out the fed implants.

Anyrate, as much as I’d like to visit Texas again, its just out of reach for me. Hope you can pull it together and have a great time. If there is interest in a midwest meet perhaps some of us can organize a roadside campground/small town meetup for beers where its a days drive out and back.

It could be a good idea for certain TBPers but there are surely many readers here who want to keep their online lives separate. No offense.
