SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
Anthony Aaron, and Steve C.

Steve C / Classic Music Mafia: Here is the image depicting “The Classic Music Gangsters,” a whimsical and imaginative group of classical musicians with a playful gangster twist. The scene is set in an old-world music hall with rich, vintage decor, where the musicians are performing in stylish 1920s-era gangster attire. The atmosphere is mysterious yet sophisticated, capturing the unique blend of classical music and a lighthearted gangster theme. – aka.attrition

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Steve C.

Since I am also a great fan of Alondra de la Parra I have been waiting for a version of this, my second place (and a very close second), to Beethoven’s 6th symphony “The pastoral”. In fact, sometimes I like this piece even better. That’s how close it is.

Although I was able to find a commentary of Parra while performing this piece that I featured last week, I have not been able to find a copy of it in its entirety.

So I bring you this version done by another female conductor. Although I do think that she’s pretty good, she’s no Alondra de la Parra, but that’s just my humble opinion.

See some more of her in my ‘shorts’.

This sounds so peaceful. Thanks for music.

I put Mahler’s 1st Symphony on my SMC submission last September 10th, hoping to begin a cycle through the entire Mahler Symphonic repertoire – but I somehow got sidetracked.

So … I’m going to try to continue that symphony cycle, specifically with the Leonard Bernstein recordings of the 1970s and 1980s … arguably not just Bernstein’s best, but THE best according to some experts.

Mahler Symphony no. 2 “Resurrection”

Without further ado …

The “Resurrection” Symphony is Mahler’s first to pair orchestral writing with voice and language. Fittingly, for a work about life and death, inspiration came in the form of a hymn read at the funeral of the composer’s friend and fellow conductor Hans von Bülow, where he heard a setting of Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock’s poem “Die Auferstehung” (“The Resurrection”).

Mahler did not give his symphony the “Resurrection” subtitle, but the theme was present from the work’s inception—so present that he even initially considered including a narrative program around the vicissitudes of life and death. He ultimately scrapped this more didactic approach to the work, yet even beyond the vocal and literary components, the symphony’s musical representations of death and rebirth are legible.

Leah,
Thanks for submitting that Halvorsen arrangement of the Handel piece.
What a soothing, peaceful melody. Almost melancholic.
Surely that had to have been used in some emotional movie.

Celebrate today’s gifts.
Forgiveness for sin and
Eternal life after death.

Hi SMC – Thank you. I felt the same about that rendition. It’s been that kind of Winter. I shared something a little more uplifting for the season.

Forever thankful for those gifts. Take Care, SMC.

I’ve replayed Passacaglia about 6 times today, and found 3 other beauties on the YT side bar who do a pretty good rendition of it.
