SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
Anthony Aaron, and Steve C.

Steve C / Classic Music Mafia: Here is the image depicting “The Classic Music Gangsters,” a whimsical and imaginative group of classical musicians with a playful gangster twist. The scene is set in an old-world music hall with rich, vintage decor, where the musicians are performing in stylish 1920s-era gangster attire. The atmosphere is mysterious yet sophisticated, capturing the unique blend of classical music and a lighthearted gangster theme. – aka.attrition

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Khatia Buniatishvili, Yuja Wang – Brahms, Hungarian Dance No. 1

Yuja and Khatia on the same keyboard.

Judy Collins – Send in the Clowns (Complete version)

This is a very interesting review of much of our current “Tragic Comic Opera”.

“Send in the Clowns” “Don’t bother, they’re here.”

Joan Osborne – What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted (Live)

A new to me singer with great talent.

Hoe-Down from Aaron Copland’s Rodeo

Another favourite piece!!

“Hoe-Down,” as performed by The Frederick Symphony Orchestra, is a renowned musical piece composed by Aaron Copland as part of his ballet “Rodeo.” “Rodeo” is a ballet composed by Copland in 1942, and “Hoe-Down” is one of the most well-known and recognisable movements from this ballet. The Frederick Symphony Orchestra’s rendition of this piece captures its lively and energetic style, which beautifully captures the spirit of a traditional hoedown dance.

This orchestral performance has been widely acclaimed and enjoyed by audiences.”

This Next One Comes To Us Thanks To Current Mafioso Anthony Aaron

One of Us – Joan Osborne

She’s been around for a few decades … here’s a newer recording of one of her old hits … her first recording of this song was on her 1995 album, ‘Relish’ … and this song was the theme for the TV series ‘Providence’ from 1991-95 …

Continuing with Leonard Bernstein’s 1970s Mahler cycle …

Mahler: Symphony No. 5 In C Sharp Minor

For intense emotions and radiant beauty, nothing can surpass Mahler’s Fifth. A movement marked “tempestuously. With great vehemence” stands alongside the achingly beautiful Adagietto — a gift to his beloved wife Alma — scored for strings and harp alone, a kind of “resting place” before the grand drama of the finale. The legendary conductor Herbert von Karajan called the Symphony “a transformative experience.”

The Fifth Symphony occupies a pivotal place in Mahler’s endlessly fascinating output. It was his first purely instrumental symphony since the First, which he had worked on during the 1880s and subjected to heavy revision in 1893. He composed the Fifth during the summers of 1901 and 1902, during his annual holiday from his job as director of the Vienna Court Opera. It was in Vienna the winter prior to beginning the Fifth Symphony that Mahler met Alma Schindler, the beautiful daughter of a famous landscape painter. Mahler proposed to her in the fall of 1901, and the symphony, with its trajectory from mourning to triumph, reflects this development in its composer’s personal life.

Bach – Harpsichord concerto 5 in F minor BWV 1056

This Harpsichord concerto in F minor BWV 1056, performed here by Siebe Henstra and the Netherlands Bach Society, is in a melancholy key. Although the plaintive character is noticeable straight away, the sun does shine through in several places. “The whole concerto hangs together perfectly”, says soloist Siebe Henstra.

Tchaikovsky: Sleeping Beauty (Waltz) op.66 – best of the best rendenition

My very favorite waltz of all time played by my favorite symphony – The Gimnazija Kranz Symphony Orchestra.

I think these kids are great!!!

Waltz from Swan Lake – Tchaikovsky – Westwood Ensemble

Speaking of waltzes, this one’s not too shabby either.

Try to remember that these are just kids…

Tchaikovsky: “Swan Lake” Suite / Hunjoung Lim · Korean Symphony Orchestra

And now, a version of the second one done by a professional orchestra.

Can you hear the difference between them.

I can. The first version done by the Gimnazija Kranz Symphony Orchestra is every bit as good, but the second by the Westwood Ensemble is pretty good, but it speaks of kids…

Personally, I think it was poorly composed and conducted, but that’s just me.
