Here’s how much your dog will cost you over its lifetime

When Kristen Silton and her husband went house shopping several years ago, a fenced-in yard was high on their must-have list. The Atlanta couple, now 29, wanted a safe outdoor space for their mutt, Lola.

They’re among the one-third of millennials whose dog played a bigger role in their home purchase than any children or spouse, according to a recent survey by SunTrust Mortgage.

“Every millennial couple I know has a dog,” Silton says. “Everyone’s got a practice baby.”

Since they’ve moved into their house, Silton and her husband have had two children, ages 3 ½ and 1 ½. But it was Lola who drove the decision of what type of house to buy, and Lola who helped them learn how to budget for another’s needs.

I’ve had all sorts of animals as pets over the years. As a boy, I had dogs, lizards, turtles, fish and birds. The birds were rescues that my dog would find. Every spring he would find at least one baby bird that fell from its nest and stand over it, howling until I helped save the bird. We raised quite a few birds that way. 13 TBP Big Dogs and 1 Cat Eating Christmas Dinner

I am writing this post to introduce you all to two really cool new web sites I found recently.

1. The video below is from— http://knowmore.washingtonpost.com/ It has very interesting data presented in a most creative and visually pleasing manner. I just happened to pick one of their funny vids, but there’s much more there than just humor.

Good Lawd! Ms. Freud and I were cracking up watching this.

2. The annimation below is from— http://www.viewsoftheworld.net/

It shows worldwide rainfall over the course of one year. The author prepared this as part of his doctoral thesis.  The web site is chock full of unusual data, interestingly presented.
