Uwe and Hannelore Romeike came to the United States in 2008 seeking political asylum. They fled their German homeland in the face of religious persecution for homeschooling their children.
They wanted to live in a country where they could raise their children in accordance with their Christian beliefs.
The Romeikes were initially given asylum, but the Obama administration objected – claiming that German laws that outlaw homeschooling do not constitute persecution.
“The goal in Germany is for an open, pluralistic society,” the Justice Department wrote in a legal brief last year. “Teaching tolerance to children of all backgrounds helps to develop the ability to interact as a fully functioning citizen in Germany.”
On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to hear the Romeike’s appeal – paving the way for the Christian family of eight to be deported.
“I think this is a part of the Obama administration’s overall campaign to crush religious freedom in this country,” said Michael Farris, chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association. His organization is representing (the) family.
It’s part of Obama and the Left’s overall campaign to crush freedom, period. Don’t think for a moment they won’t try to do the same or worse to American homeschoolers any time they get the chance and think they can get away with it. They will.
Had the family stayed in Germany, where homeschooling is illegal, they would have faced the prospect of losing their children. Like the Pilgrims, they fled their homeland yearning for a place where they could be free.

“It’s a denial of the essence of America,” he said. “The Pilgrims left England to go to Holland to seek religious freedom. They came here to seek religious freedom and parental rights for their children. Had this administration been waiting at Plymouth Rock, they would’ve told the Pilgrims to go back home.”
The essence of America is exactly what liberal-fascists like Obama despise and fear, and wish to see exsanguinated from the body politic. Nobody should be at all surprised by now; they’ve made it clear enough.
There are nearly 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. You’d think the Obama administration could find a place eight immigrants who want to live here legally.

The entire population of Mexico is 116 million. With a current growth rate of maybe 2 million a year. Extending that to the year 2030 would put it at 146 million, add another couple million for good measure and call it 150.

There are precedents to back up what you say… several times during the history of the Republic, immigration was halted entirely to give the waves of EUROPEAN immigrants time to assimilate…
Now, we’ve had pretty much unrestricted immigration, both legal and illegal, for 50 years… pretty much NONE of them having a common background, common ethnicity or common religious background… have THOSE assholes “assimilated”??

Having lived in Germany for several years, I got a pretty good idea how their system works. Their all-kids-go-to-school-no-exceptions rule started back under Uncle Adolf. When the Nazis were finally deposed, the leftist Government that took their place realized the power of such a law, so they co-opted it. HOWEVER, I will meet you halfway in that allowing someone to apply for, and get, refugee status based on home-schooling alone could be abused in the future. I will offer the caveat that IF someone can demonstrate that their beliefs, which are not different than OUR beliefs, are resulting in them being persecuted (and having the almighty state take your kids away because you don’t want them attending state-run indoctrination camps very much IS persecution), then they should be allowed sanctuary.
But they have to prove it. The case that SCOTUS ducked? It wasn’t from lack of proof, it was because the court got leveraged. the govt has no right to dictate education and i would argue that laws limiting education choices have little to no difference laws limiting religious choices. and the fact that they will be forcibly requred to send their kids to school means they are facing persecution.
and saying tehy can be taught at home after school is a cop-out, the effort required to get the children to unlearn all that is wrong and then reteach is just another way to getting rid of that knowledge. it is also comparable to saying you can be jewish on your own time but are required to go to christian masses every sunday per the law.
