Texas teen led away from school in handcuffs over clock invention

A Texas teen gets arrested over a homemade digital clock. Social media erupts.

#IStandWithAhmed has been trending for hours on Twitter, with over 50,000 tweets exchanged so far, largely in support of the 14-year-old, who lives with his family in the Dallas suburbs.

Twitter screen capture

Here’s the story that has spread around the globe: High-school freshman Ahmed Mohamed was arrested Monday after bringing a homemade digital clock to MacArthur High. To make a long story short, a teacher at the Irving, Texas, school freaked out, thinking the clock looked more like a bomb, resulting in a call to police, reported the Dallas Morning News.

The youth was taken to a juvenile detention facility in handcuffs and has been suspended from school. Police reportedly may charge him with making a hoax bomb.

Ahmed, who is reported to be something of a technical genius, wanted to wow his teachers. It took him 20 minutes to rig up the clock, using only a circuit board and power supply hooked to a digital display. His engineering teacher was the first to see it, and — perhaps sensing trouble — advised him to keep it under wraps. But the gadget kept beeping.

The 14-year-old recounts what happened in a video interview with the Morning News:

At the detention center, Ahmed was searched and fingerprinted, he said, and then awaited his parents’ arrival. “It made me feel like I wasn’t a human, like I was a criminal,” he said.

Among the many attention-grabbing tweets was one featuring a hastily shot photo of what is said to be Ahmed‘s departure from the school in cuffs:

Lawyers for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, along with Ahmed and his parents, reportedly were due to meet with school officials.

Ahmed’s father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, immigrated to the U.S. from Sudan, where returns from time to time to run for president, the Dallas paper reported.

And here’s a portion of a statement that was apparently sent to parents on the heels of the incident (MarketWatch has been unable verify its authenticity):“While we do not have any threats to our school community, we want you to be aware that the Irving Police Department responded to a suspicious-looking item on campus yesterday. We are pleased to report that after the police department’s assessment, the item discovered at school did not pose a threat to your child’s safety.”

The letter is signed “Daniel Cummings, principal.”

I love the “Bitch, are you retarded” look he is giving him. I image it was some fat middle-aged hag with cankles who watches too many crime dramas on television that flipped out and called the cops. I have a strong feeling in was an English teacher.

To quote the article: ” and has been suspended from school. Police reportedly may charge him with making a hoax bomb.”

We are fucked, totally fucked. The Stasi runs our schools, the Gestapo arrests children, the KGB (the replacement for NSA) gathers information. Get you case ruled on by a kangaroo court with some cunt for a judge.

Doesn’t matter if you vote for Trump / Hillary / Bernie – we’re done.

I am so glad we home schooled.

Back the kid up, he knew it wasn’t anything dangerous.

Sooooo … teachers, Administrators, and copfuks upon closer examination of the facts could not determine the device was HARMLESS ???

Of course, no one will get fired or even be mocked for being a goddamned stupid dickfuk asshole. They’ll probably get letters of recognition for being so vigilant.

I hope the kid’s parents sue the fuck out of whomever they can and get millions. Which I know is self-defeating because it is the taxpayers who pay the bill.

More than a decade ago, the Supreme Court ruled that police have no obligation to ‘protect’ the public. The landmark case dealt with a woman and her estranged husband. The husband kidnapped their children and the woman called police to report the crime. The police never investigated and the man later killed all three kids. (Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales)

A city-commission study found that HPD failed to investigate over 20,000 crimes in 2013 – crimes with ‘workable’ leads. When questioned about the potentially damning figures, Chief McClelland said that the Houston Police Department does not and should not have a goal of aggressively probing every crime reported to it.

Most of the crimes that HPD were too lazy to investigate, dealt with burglaries. However, over 6,000 of those cases were assaults, hit-and-runs, and other violent crimes. Chief McClelland had a response for these numbers as well – “They’re very minor crimes. I don’t want to dismiss that if someone was a victim of crime, but they are.”

Personally, I don’t see how someone violently assaulting you, your spouse, or even your children are ‘minor crimes’. I would care to guess that if a member of Chief McClelland’s family was robbed, assaulted, or was the victim of a hit-and-run, he would have every officer within a 100 miles investigating the crime. I think what the chief meant to say, was that ‘some people aren’t important enough, rich enough, or (dare I say) white enough, for my officers to help’.

My son took a homemade model rocket kit to school when he was 14, somebody turned him in.

The Vice Principal, even though proving he knew it harmless by removing it from his locker while classes were still in session and walking it throughout the school before he called in the cops, FBI and bomb squad.

They prosecuted and barred my son from every returning into the school district.

Even thought I felt that the school way overreacted, he did knowingly break the law/rules. The Wayne County juvenile justice office had never seen a parent like me.

They agreed that he should never have been prosecuted, but that he did break the letter of the law (incendiary devices). They were going to give him a slap on the wrist.

I decided to use it to make my kid think twice, or harder, before he did stupid things. I, to the consternation of both ex and son, demanded homeschooling for the remainder of the year (he had already been because of the charges) even though he could have legally returned to another district, I demanded his community service be quadrupled, his probation doubled. I wanted him to think long and freaking hard about ever knowingly challenging our police state again.

The look on the probation officer, and the judge’s faces were priceless.

“Why would you recommend harsher punishment than the juvenile justice program recommends for your son Ms. T?” asks judge.

“Because the hallway outside these chambers are FULL of kids that were let off lightly because it was their first time. I figure if I make my son’s first time as painful as I can, there won’t be a next one.”

“I agree.” Gavel smacked.

The country has been insane for a long, long, time. Between forced morality, and forced diversity, and forced destruction of the productive, exactly what else would we expect would happen?

We have exactly the government, and regulations, that we deserve, and want. You all should feel safer that this criminal innovator and future producer has been put in his place.

Yep, its for the freaking easily butthurt children and their very easily butthurt parents.

Agree with Dutchman… it’s all about making the young Edisons, Einsteins, DaVincis and/or Ben Franklins think twice. Creating fear and institutionalizing it will encourage another ‘dark age’ by killing art, experimentation, innovation, critical thinking and out-of-the-box idea generation.

THAT is exactly what they want.

If this were an episode of Little House on the Prairie, Mr. Ingalls would have taken this opportunity to provide this young lad with an important life lesson. He would have sat this kid down and told him that he just had his first lesson in the failure of social engineering. He would have kindly explained that multiculturalism has never worked in the history of mankind and this is a law of nature and, as such, will never change. He might have also warned him that he would grow up in a world of great stress and strife because the thought police rejected a law of nature which is the worst thing you can do, especially when there is zero ambivalence in the objective evidence.

RIP Charles Ingalls. Love and miss you. (At least I have Billy now.)

A Muslim from the Sudan brings a “digital clock” beeping in a brief case and none of the hard-ass freedum’ first dicktards on TBP would freak. Maybe the Mohammedan population of Sudan hasn’t heard, but digital clocks are now the size of microchips..pherhaps the school faculty is remiss for not informing the kid of this, but still if a Muslim brings a briefcase size digital clock to school , who amongst us wouldn’t freak?

It is unfortunate that things are not much different “Down Under”. As a society we’re just as “OHS conscious” which leads to an effectively zero-tolerance of most things “home-made electrical”. So, the kids spend their time outdoors playing with their electronic devices, and occasionally sports, or indoors playing with their electronic devices.

A good (but sad) example of where we are heading as a society is the recent closure (bankruptcy) of one of our last R/C model shops – Vaggs Hobbies up in Sydney. “Back in the Day” they were usually packed at weekends, but times (and interests) have changed, which is rather sad, really, and makes one wonder where the next generation(s) of real Engineers (as against “App Developers”) will come from.

Three things you need to do to fix this problem.

First – fire every teacher in the US of A, shut down the schools and start over.

Two – close your borders for the next 50 to 100 years to all immigration and reopen it only to small bursts of screened immigrants when the nation is in need of fresh taxpayers to balance out the demographics between payers and payees closing again thereafter to assimilate said tax donkeys.

Third – balance your budget.

It would be a cluster fuck for a while but in 100 years or so America would once again be the greatest country on earth – next to Canada that is…..

I said: it’s sad they thought that kid had a bomb.
She said: they didn’t think he had a bomb.
I said: yes, they thought he made a bomb and even called the police.
She said: They just wanted to humiliate a little Muslim boy. They didn’t think he had a bomb.
I said: Don’t be a conspiracy theorist. They might be a little prejudiced, but I’m sure they thought he had a bomb.
She said: OK.
But they didn’t evacuate the school, like you do when there’s a bomb.
They didn’t call a bomb squad – like you do when there’s a bomb.
They didn’t get as far away from him as possible, like you do when there’s a bomb.
Then they put him and the clock in an office: not like you do when there’s a bomb
Then they waited with him for the police to arrive, and then they put the clock in the same car as the police.
Then they took pictures of it.

I said: Damn…..They never thought he had a bomb.
