Headed to Penn State to help move number 2 son home for the summer. Also, transporting number 1 son up there to see his girlfriend’s graduation. Picked him up at the airport on Wednesday night at 11:30 pm. He was able to see both his grandmothers and all his friends in one whirlwind day. After the seven hours of driving today, I get to drive to Delaware County tomorrow morning and pick up my mother to bring her to her 80th birthday surprise party. Then Mother’s day on Sunday. And I used two vacation days to accomplish all this fun.
I will be out of electronic touch after 8:00 am today. At least it is pouring ran. That always makes seven hours of driving much more enjoyable. You are on your own. No Friday Fail.
Stay safe Admin
I will throw a question out there. What did TPB readers make of Obama’s recent visit to the UK?
Happy birthday to your mom! Happy summer homecoming to your son.
– Family first –
Blood is thicker than water.
I can remember driving back and forth to Penn State – ’67 thru ’69 -9 I 80 wasn’t complete in the west) so you could make some real good ‘time’ – no cops.
A great day to travel, nothing like the turnpike & 322 in the rain.
Have fun and enjoy your family!!
I hope you remembered to untie Dinky’s leash from the back bumper..poor little Dinkums..
Going out to pick up my daughter from UMass on Sunday, fortunately it is a little less than 2 hours. Makes for a nice road trip.Happy B’day to your mom. I am taking my 82 year old mother out tonight for an event for her work. Yes, she still works at 82 and still roller skates.
Bob.
Number one and number two. Heh.
Have safe good trip admin.
Boston, is your mom some sort of carhop at Sonic?
Only thing that sucks more than 322 is Route 45 between Lewisburg and Penn State.
National Lampoon’s Admin Vacation…
Admin’s last thunder and lightning story was scary enough, I hope all we hear about is a stopped up toilet in the dorms.
Have a great trip.
I am awaiting the call telling me when the summer internship begins so I can plan the drive to Baltimore and my flight home. This year, being his second summer internship there, he qualifies for TRAVEL PAY and Per Diem. I’m traveling on his employer’s dime this time! (Except I’ll spring for the extra for a suite for the stayover night.)
I was melancholy for about 30 seconds realizing that this is the last summer before he graduates and gets a real job. Probably far away… there really aren’t many computer engineers out here in the Ozarks. Not new ones anyway.
Road trip from hell.
I drove through torrential rains for over 8 hours yesterday. Got soaked loading the cars.
I told my son I’d follow behind him on the way home. He drove with Avalon and I had my youngest son with me. I expected him to take 99 south and the Turnpike East. Two roads. Easy Peasey.
For some fucked up reason his GPS told him to go 99 North. I had my son text him that I didn’t think that was faster. I assumed the GPS was taking him to 80. When we came to the choice between 80 and 322 he veered to the right toward 322. I screamed and told my son to call them and tell them that was YUGE mistake.
Too late. 322 is the worst fucking road ever conceived. It’s dangerous, hilly, winding, and filled with 18 wheelers. The only thing worse than driving on 322 is driving on 322 in torrential rain.
The only thing worse than driving on 322 in torrential rain is driving on 322 in torrential rain when they have blocked off one of the two lanes for 10 miles.
My youngest son heard some of the most foul mouthed rants ever from Admin. Avalon got an earful as we were virtually parked on 322 for 10 miles.
This choice added at least 30 minutes to an already stressful horrible ride home.
Now I get to spend another hour and half shuttling my mom to her surprise party.
Besides that, it’s been a great couple days.
