Dictator for Life: The Rise of the American Imperial President

I’m not a fan of Communist China.

It’s a vicious totalitarian regime that routinely employs censorship, surveillance, and brutal police state tactics to intimidate its populace, maintain its power, and expand the largesse of its corporate elite.

Just recently, in fact, China—an economic and political powerhouse that owns more of America’s debt than any other country and is buying up American businesses across the spectrum— announced its plan to make its president, Xi Jinping, president for life.

President Trump thinks that’s a great idea.

Trump thinks the idea of having a president for life is so great, in fact, that America might want to move in that direction. “Maybe we’ll have to give that a shot someday,” said Trump to a roomful of supporters.

Here’s the thing: we already have a president for life.

OBAMA’S IDOL DIES

Our own communist president is overcome with grief this morning at the passing of a murdering dictator that kept his people impoverished for half a century with his communist economic policies.

You know a person’s true nature by their actions. Obama did not attend Margaret Thatcher’s or Antonin Scalia’s funerals. Too busy with golf outings. If he attends Fidel Castro’s funeral, you will know him for what he is.

Presidents don’t give up power.

Executive orders don’t expire at the end of each presidential term.

And every successive occupant of the Oval Office since George Washington, who issued the first executive order, has expanded the reach and power of the presidency.

The Constitution invests the President with very specific, limited powers. In recent years, however, American presidents have anointed themselves with the power to wage war, unilaterally kill Americans, torture prisoners, strip citizens of their rights, arrest and detain citizens indefinitely, carry out warrantless spying on Americans, and erect their own secretive, shadow government.

These are the powers that will be inherited by the next heir to the throne, and it won’t make a difference whether it’s a President Trump or a President Clinton occupying the Oval Office.

Obama Claims Power to Make Illegal Immigrants Eligible for Social Security, Disability

Aren’t we essentially a dictatorship at this point? The president can ignore the law, enforce whatever he chooses. break the law, wage undeclared wars, spy on you, and drone you. At least you have your iGadgets, the Kardashians and American Idol.

Does the president of the United States have the power to unilaterally tell millions of individuals who are violating federal law that he will not enforce that law against them now, that they may continue to violate that law in the future and that he will take action that makes them eligible for federal benefit programs for which they are not currently eligible due to their unlawful status?

Through Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, President Barack Obama is telling the Supreme Court exactly this right now.

The solicitor general calls what Obama is doing “prosecutorial discretion.”

He argues that under this particular type of “prosecutorial discretion,” the executive can make millions of people in this country illegally eligible for Social Security, disability and Medicare.

On April 18, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case. Entitled United States v. Texas, it pits President Obama against not only the Lone Star State, but also a majority of the states, which have joined in the litigation against the administration.

Remember how under the “dictator” Yanukovich, the police didn’t disperse the protesters but only repelled extremists advancing on Congress and President’s Administration? Yeah, that is no longer the case.

And how back then police didn’t open fire even when the protesters burned a police armored car with Molotovs? Here, at 5:07 one can clearly hear them say several times: “touch us, and we will shoot to kill”.
