Monday on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) said President Barack Obama has been encouraging the current flood of illegal immigrant woman and children with his executive actions in an attempt to “turn Texas Blue” and potentially ‘turn America blue.”

Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, is worried President Obama’s decision to not visit the U.S-Mexico border while he’s in Texas this week will become his “Katrina moment.”
“I’m sure that President Bush thought the same thing, that he could just look at everything from up in the sky, and then he owned it after a long time,” Cuellar said Monday in a Fox News interview with Neil Cavuto. “So I hope this doesn’t become the Katrina moment for President Obama, saying that he doesn’t need to come to the border. He should come down.”
George W. Bush was widely criticized for his administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005. Among other things, Bush was slammed for praising then-FEMA director Michael Brown by saying “Brownie, you’re doing a heckuva job” and for a photograph taken from Air Force One in which he was seen peering at the wreckage.
In 2010, Bush told Matt Lauer of NBC that the photo was a “huge mistake” and that he should have had his plane land in Baton Rouge, La., so he could meet with the governor and state officials about the hurricane.
Obama will head to Texas on Wednesday for a fundraiser in Dallas for House Democrats and then travel to Austin on Thursday for a Democratic National Committee event and a speech on the economy. He has been criticized by Texas Gov. Rick Perry and others for not scheduling a visit to the border and for his response to the immigration crisis.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Monday that the president is “not worried about those optics.” The Obama administration is expected to provide details on a new budget request to address the immigration crisis on Tuesday.
“The president is well aware of what is happening along the Southwest border, that is why you have seen a wide range of steps to enforce the law,” Earnest said.
The House Homeland Security Committee held a field hearing last week in McAllen, Texas on the subject of unaccompanied children crossing the border illegally. Border Patrol statistics show the number of immigrants — adults and children — coming from countries other than Mexico who were arrested at the Southwest border has soared from 46,997 in fiscal year 2011 to nearly 150,000 in fiscal year 2013.
Cuellar, whose district stretches from just south of San Antonio to the U.S.-Mexico border, said the immigration issue “is not only a humanitarian crisis” but also points to problems with homeland security.

I do not see why everyone makes this so difficult. The United States has now become something that most Americans will not fight for. Do I want to fight for Sears and Target and Walmart? Will I pick up a gun to defend the “rights” of transgender high-schooler’s to have their own bathroom? Will I put my life on the line for Wall St. or for Congress?
America has become something that most people no longer believe in defending. Those in power know this and they know that we will turn on them at the very first sign of weakness. They know what awaits them. French Revolution anyone?
The only way they can save themselves is to buy some loyalty by allowing the barbarians to settle here – just like Rome did. They can promise the barbarians the sweat of our labor in order to keep themselves in power just a little longer.

We’re No. 33!
That’s the bottom line in a new Gallup poll measuring the extent of freedom in 135 countries. Only 79% of Americans say they’re satisfied with their freedom to choose what to do with their lives, down from 87% in 2008. The top five nations where people feel most satisfied with their freedoms are New Zealand, Australia, Cambodia, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates. At No. 33, the United States is sandwiched between Bahrain and Cameroon.
Gallup doesn’t define “freedom” in this poll, so citizens of different countries are likely to interpret the word differently. That’s why Cambodians — enjoying peaceful elections as they recover from years of war — rank among the top five. Still, changes over time show whether people in a given nation feel their freedoms are improving or deteriorating.
The United States is one of the few places where freedoms appear to be on the wane. Of the 100 countries where Gallup measured changes in freedom during the past five years, 75 of them registered an improvement, while 21 registered a decline. Four stayed the same. Of the decliners, only five nations report sharper drops than the United States. Two of them — Syria and Afghanistan — are dominated by armed uprisings. Two others — Tajikistan and Thailand — are racked with political turmoil. Luxembourg, the most prosperous of the decliners, has become a target of U.S. and European authorities going after tax evaders with foreign accounts.
A newfound humility
Such unruly company seems to have knocked some of the swagger out of the typical American. In a separate set of polls by Pew Research, the percentage of Americans who believe the United States “stands above all other countries” dropped from 38% in 2011 to 28% in 2014. Young Americans are least impressed with their home country, with only 15% of 18-29-year-olds saying the United States is the world’s No. 1 nation. Among seniors, 40% feel that way — but still, that’s down from 50% just three years ago.
That newfound humility corresponds with an economic comedown that is looking permanent for an uncomfortably large portion of Americans. The recession that ended in 2009 ravaged the economic fortunes of many American families, with median household wealth still about 40% lower than it was before the recession. Jobs have finally started to return, but for many workers, pay is lower than it used to be. People feel they’re falling behind, and the data show they’re not imagining things. That’s a loss of economic freedom, which impacts other choices.
Many Americans seem to question the basic premise that everybody can get ahead in the so-called land of the free. A recent analysis by USA Today found living the American Dream, loosely defined, costs a typical family of four roughly $130,000 per year. That’s in a country where the median household income is only about $53,000, or less than half of what’s needed for a middle-class lifestyle.
One can quibble with USA Today’s methodology, which includes nearly $5,000 for an annual one-week vacation, $3,700 for dining out every year and thousands more for college and retirement funds. Many people live comfortably without such extras. Yet part of the American Dream (which itself has never been clearly defined) is the financial stability that comes from knowing you’ve got enough money to continually improve your living standards and handle any surprises that may pop up.
Such tangible declines in middle-class living standards represent the most important economic trend in a generation. The recovery that followed the recession and began in 2009 has been the weakest since the 1930s. A gridlocked Washington may deserve some of the blame, yet digital technology and globalization have allowed companies to locate work wherever it’s cheapest and replace employees with computers, robots and other gizmos. Americans are rightly fed up with their government but there may not be all that much Washington can do to reinvigorate an economy that still has too much debt clogging its veins.
A fresh dose of humility, ironically, may help get America back on track. Americans love to chant “We’re No. 1!” but, when asked their own opinions, they clearly believe we’re not anymore. As people complain about tough times, though, they’re also recalibrating their priorities and plotting comeback strategies. Developing an underdog mentality is a good start.

More than half of legal and illegal immigrant households from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras are on at least one form of public assistance, according to an analysis of government data by a limited immigration group.
Based on the Census Bureau’s March 2013 Current Population Survey, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reports that most legal and illegal immigrant heads of households from these three countries received benefits from at least one major benefit program like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), food stamps (SNAP), free/reduced lunch, public/subsidized housing, and/or Medicaid.
Some 57 percent of households headed by an El Salvadoran used one such major welfare program, as did 54 percent of Honduran households and 49 percent of Guatemalan households. By comparison, 24 percent of households headed by a native-born American used at least one of these programs.
While the welfare use among immigrants from these countries is higher, their levels of employment are about on par with native-born Americans.
Based on the 2013 Census data reviewed by CIS, 77 percent of immigrants between the ages of 25 to 54 from El Salvador were employed, while 74 percent of Guatemalan immigrants in that age range had a job as did 73 percent of Honduran immigrants. For native-born Americans, that figure was 76 percent.
The data comes amid a meltdown at the U.S. southern border, as tens of thousands of unaccompanied minor and family units — largely from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala — stream illegally into the country.
The New York Times reported last week that the government is sending an expected 290,000 illegal immigrants around the U.S. to cope with the influx at the border.
Based on the most recent Census numbers, in 2012 there were 2.7 million immigrants from these three countries total, which, according to CIS, has increased 234 percent since 1990. The number of both legal and illegal immigrants from El Salvador in 2012 was 1.3 million, 880,000 were from Guatemala, and 536,000 were from Honduras.
The government estimates that some 60 percent of the immigrants from these Central American countries are in the country illegally.
Other data-points from CIS include:
Language: Of immigrants from El Salvador, 70 percent report they speak English less than very well; for immigrants from Guatemala, it is 72 percent; and for immigrants from Honduras, it is 69 percent.
Home-ownership: Of households headed by Salvadoran immigrants, 41 percent are owner-occupied, as are 28 percent of Guatemalan households, and 29 percent of Honduran immigrant households. The corresponding figure for natives is 66 percent.
The Top-10 States of Settlement: California Texas, New York, Florida, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Georgia.
Educational Attainment: 54 percent of Guatemalan immigrants (ages 25 to 65) have not graduated high school. The figure for Salvadorans is 53 percent, and for Hondurans, 44 percent. The corresponding figure for native-born Americans is 7 percent.
Poverty: 32 percent of Honduran immigrants and their young children (under 18) live in poverty; as do 31 percent of Guatemalan immigrants and their children and 28 percent of Salvadoran immigrants and their children. The corresponding figure for natives and their children is 14 percent.4
Health Insurance: 47 percent of Guatemalan immigrants and their young children (under 18) do not have health insurance. The figure for both Salvadoran and Honduran immigrants and their young children is 41 percent. The corresponding figure for natives and their children is 13 percent.5
Share Working: 77 percent of immigrants from El Salvador (ages 25 to 54) have a job, as do 74 percent of Guatemalan immigrants and 73 percent of Honduran immigrants. The corresponding figure for natives is 76 percent.

When people fear for their lives (being that countries in Central America have the highest murder and crime rates in the world) or start getting hungry – defined as the third meal missed – what people do is move – somewhere-anywhere where survival is possible and Surprise!

You have turned the US Border Patrol from guardians of our borders to babysitters. You have unconstitutionally circumvented Congress with your so-called “Dream Act.” You have halted deportations of illegal aliens. As mestizos and Amerindians and Muzzies pour across the border—all as part of an engineered dilution of our nation’s founding stock into electoral irrelevance—it is high time we all wake up and smell the HBD coffee.
Prior to the 1965 immigration “reform” disaster, Americans predominantly came from Europe—a continent whose history was rife with wars and sectarian conflict: Frank vs. Gaul, Gael vs. Anglo, Protestant vs. Catholic, French vs. English, Germany vs. Everybody, etc. However, by coming to the “new world”, we Europeans were able to set aside our differences. Yes, negative stereotypes persist, but I don’t think I’m alone in never having felt the need to isolate myself from Americans of any given European descent.
I.e., throughout our evolution from 13 colonies to 50 states, we Americans came to understand, that, sure, there are differences between Irish and Italian and English and Ashkenazi, but we have enough in common as to make the violent conflicts of the past a thing of, well, the past.
All great and good. But…then we enter into a category error.
Seeing that all European races could coexist peacefully and productively had led us to believe that all races and religions could coexist peacefully and productively, if only they were just given a chance to come to this magical “new world”.
Fifty years after luring in third world savages by the millions with free goodies to mob our cities and suburbs, tell me: How’s the data looking to support that belief?
Of course the data completely contradicts it. Yes, individuals from various races and ethnic groups may have risen to meet the standards of traditional Americans. But when we speak of “people”, we speak of group characteristics, not individual characteristics. And wherever peoples from the third world have settled in America, lo’ and behold, we have the third world…in America.
Extreme poverty. Dismal academic performance. Disease. Savage violence. Chaos. These are not accidents of geography or “culture”. These are the “products” of people who are intellectually and/or emotionally incapable of getting their acts together. I.e., unless we plan on genetically reengineering third worlders, they will remain third worlders, regardless of the geography in which they are located, under what form of government they operate, in which cultural milieu they exist, or how much of our wealth we throw at them.

Of course they will never admit to it—all of this “open borders” nonsense is always couched in sanctimonious, “anti-racist” claptrap about race being nothing but a “social construct” and such. But make no mistake—the intellectuals behind the treason we see before us understand perfectly well that the races are different, and that the races they seek to flood our nation with have no capacity nor desire to live in a free country. These “undocumented migrants” want to be ruled, they want to be given free stuff, and they don’t want to have to produce amazing things to live comfortably (because they don’t have the capacity to live freely, subsist on their own, or create amazing things).
The lie of racial egalitarianism sounds oh-so morally superior, and has thus proven the perfect smokescreen for the enemies of our nation and our peoples, for this lie has been gobbled up hook, line and sinker by the gullible on both the left and the right. It is not only leftists who squeal “racism” at the mere mention of racial differences, but so-called “conservatives” too. And with racial differences thus being rendered taboo across the ideological spectrum, we find ourselves unable to articulate a coherent argument against the invasion of our country by third world hordes.
At a gut level, I believe we all know what is happening. But few have the intellectual courage to admit it to themselves; fewer yet have the courage to voice it publicly. “It’s one giant emergency room. They tell me tuberculosis has become a very dangerous issue there. Nurses say the number of children representing symptoms of tuberculosis is ‘simply staggering.’ Spitting up blood, chest pains, constant coughing. There are at least three confirmed cases for the illegals in Austin, Texas… The federal government is covering up the threat of the health crisis. They say the kids have scabies. On a more serious note, my take on it is not an insidious plan by the president, rather, the narcos are recruiting and drafting child dupes to divert the attention and overwhelm the manpower of the border patrol. They have dug some serious tunnels into the US, they have engaged in large scale human trafficking, they’ve enlisted adult mules, loaded tractor-trailers, cars, trucks with dope. This is a criminal enterprise on a grand scale and they will exploit every avenue available.

Federal officials last week paid $584 to buy four versions of Monopoly, five packs of playing cards, a dozen beanbag tosses and other games for illegal immigrant children — a small fraction of what the Obama administration now says it will take to clothe, feed, transport, house and, yes, entertain the children surging across the border.
Government contractors stand to see a good payday after President Obama submitted a request Tuesday for an additional $3.7 billion this year to cover the costs of handling the illegal immigrant families and, most costly, the unaccompanied children from Central America who are entering the U.S. in record numbers.
“There are significant resources that are required to deal with the situation,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said. “What we would like are some additional resources to make sure that we’re enforcing that law efficiently, both in terms of processing them through the immigration system, but also in terms of repatriating them if it’s found that they don’t have a legal basis for remaining in the country.”
Mr. Obama sent a letter to Congress detailing a request for 2014 alone: $879 million in additional funding to detain and deport illegal immigrant families, $116 million to transport unaccompanied children, and $522 million for more law enforcement both on the border and in Central America.
Mr. Obama also is asking for an additional $1.8 billion for the Health and Human Services Department to be able to house the children while they are awaiting immigration court hearings; $300 million for the State Department try to create better economic and security conditions in Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador; and $64 million for the Justice Department to hire more immigration judges.
The request puts an initial dollar figure on the border crisis but does little to settle the heated dispute over the way Mr. Obama is handling it.
“President Obama created this disaster at our southern border, and now he is asking to use billions of taxpayer dollars without accountability or a plan in place to actually stop the border crisis,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte. “Most of the money requested in the president’s supplemental seems geared toward processing Central Americans than stopping the surge itself.”
This latest (cough) “humanitarian crisis” supposedly just came to a head because of the 2008 Wilberforce Law on unaccompanied minors that requires due process before ejecting any illegally encroaching minors who aren’t from Mexico or Canada. Leaving aside the complete improbability of this “crisis” spontaneously erupting 5 years after the law was passed, some supposed conservative (like showboat Ted Cruz) should introduce legislation to amend that law such that any illegal entrant to the US – without regard to age or country of origin – can be immediately returned to the country from which they snuck into the US. If they sneak in from Mexico, we should be able to drop them right back INTO Mexico (like we can with Mexicans right now) whether they’re originally from Guatemala or Austria.

They say each kid paid 8k to get here. There’s something very wrong if the poor SA peasants can save up this much money. We need to impoverish them much more so they can’t afford that 8k of disposable income. Also, if we actually boot the parasites back across the border so the Mexicants have to deal with them, they will quickly get sorted out and the peasants will figure out their 8k isn’t generating a returm. The flow should cease.

GilbertS, when I was a kid living in a “grindingly poor” barrio, we used to listen to a lot of ‘cuentos’ or folktales. A lot of them may be familiar to you because as they say in the movies, ‘only the names have been changed to protect the innocent’.
I will give you an example of these stories we heard back then when very few houses had a tv:
There was a man who wandered into death’s antechamber. In it there were lots of votive candles, it looked like a Catholic church with all those candles aflame. And he asked death, what are all these candles doing here? They are the lives of people living here. And when they go out, what happens? Then the person dies.

I have a story too main. A senor was standing outside a woven metal fence, looking in at all the people working. He saw they all wore yellow vests, and on their head rested a chiny hardhat. One of my grandfathers almost didn’t get in, himself, due to his age-he was otherwise healthy, skilled, and employed (and fleeing Czarist oppression). When you consider we are trillions in debt (120+ trillion collectively), and have nearly half the nation on entitlements, there is absolutely no reason to allow more parasites in. We can’t afford more useless eaters.
What’s more, if we deported all the moochers, freeloaders, parasites, tax eaters, takers, etc back to their nations of origin, perhaps they could fix their shitty countries and start creating those opportunities and chances of success for themselves at home. We are merely perpetuating rotten systems South of our border. Mexico, for example. I have read Mexico is one of the wealthiest nations on earth when it comes to natural resources, but everything is tied up in the corrupt hands of a tiny minority and has been pretty much since the Spanish arrived. Allowing their people to flood into this nation is merely a pressure relief valve for a messed-up failing nation. IF we send all the illegals back and cut off the flow of USD back to Mexico, perhaps they would start making some changes and start building a better Mexico. Or not. Either way, America is not Mexico’s dumping ground for undesirables. BTW-I’ve seen a couple news articles in the last year about what happens when Mexicans actually take responsibility and start trying to protect their towns from drug dealers. America is, or was, a nation of laws. Part of that includes maintaining a strong border and keeping foreigners out until they’ve been processed and checked and inspected and found acceptable. It’s important to me , since I have actually been through the process with my wife. It makes me really mad after the thousands of dollars I spent, the immense investment in time and uncertainty and all the forms and BS govt nonsense, all the hoops we jumped through, the interviews, the fingerprinting, the doctor’s checks, the shots, arbitrary and randoms schedulings and cancellations and all that waiting apart in 2 different nations, etc- It makes me mad as hell that our people and politicians are too lazy, too weak, to make criminal illegal aliens follow the same rules because it’s easier or cheaper or more profitable to them to ignore the rules. It also makes me sick both sides of the aisle want to allow them in either for cheap, exploitable labor, prospecitve voters, or new union members. (I suspect when business AND labor are on the same side, it can’t be good.) The Constitution is supposed to ensure the rules are equal for all. To me, that means all the illegals gotta go back to the end of the line, or just out of the line, since cheating should also be penalized. I went through far too much BS following the rules for this to be just.
Also, why shouldn’t we demand the best from prospective applicants? Why can’t we be selective and take the smartest, most educated, most wealthy, most inventive, most healthy immigrants? It isn’t like we need more people. It isn’t like we’re full of industries that need employees. Our business criminals and politicians have run off our industries and dis-employed nearly half the workforce, so it isn’t like we need more poor unskilled labor. Taking in South America’s ignorant peasants in no way makes us better off. It weakens us and ruins the stupid social welfare net we’ve been burdened with by nearly 100 years of do-gooder liberals.
When you look at the problem of inflation in our economy, I think it applies to citizenship, as well. What’s the point of citizenship when it’s no longer exclusive? We hand out the benefits of being American to non-Americans and ignore the basics of Borders, Language, and Culture. Free education, free food, free housing, free heating, free phonez, free internet, free healthcare, free clothes, etc. What’s the point of being American when all the freebies are going to non-Americans? For the patriots out there, doesn’t it make America hard to defend when you’re fighting for a policy of open borders for non-Americans who are just here to suck up the bennies and contribute nothing to us? What is there to defend when our “leaders” don’t value our borders, language, and culture? If TPTB don’t care about those 3 fundamental things, then what’s left? Borders, language, and culture ARE America.
At least cancel the handouts. At least kill all the freebies-that would probably halt the flow for the most part. Enforce the laws against hiring illegals and the flow would become a trickle. Finally, I have the ultimate (won’t say final!) solution.
-Let’s find the willpower, the intestinal fortitude, to declare all criminal illegal aliens’ property, due to their continuous and constant daily violation of our laws, to be forfeit as the proceeds of a continuing criminal enterprise and send our local, state, and federal law enforcement out into the hinterland to find, identify, and seize their homes, cars, bank accounts, and other property. With an enticement like that, I suspect the cops would finally have a reason to hunt them down and get rid of them. Streamline the process for deportation and send the anchor babies with them until they are 18 or a legal citizen guardian steps forward to house and protect them here. No family members can join the anchor baby-it stays with the family or guardian until 18. Oh, and let’s offer bounties to citizens for turning them in, too. We have millions of unemployed who might find a job in hunting down the illegals in our country. Win-Win!
Let’s get back to basics, enforce the laws, and kick the moochers back where they belong and act like being an American actually means something. Your taxes and your community might be better, if you still don’t see a benefit in halting the flow of drugs, human trafficking, murders, the resurgence of previously-eradicated diseases, the drain on public services, closure of emergency rooms, and other crimes.

Illegals Continue To Walk All Over Obama, Now With Obama-Themed Shoes
Some of the illegal immigrants surging across the U.S. border from Central America and creating a growing humanitarian crisis may be wearing tennis shoes emblazoned with images in praise of President Barack Obama, according to Dennis Michael Lynch at his website, DMLDaily.
“I’ve received two sets of photos from two contacts at the border,” Lynch explains. “I cannot validate the authenticity of the pictures. But I can say the agents who sent these to me is among a handful of agents who have sent me accurate information over the past few months.”
The agent works at a processing center in South Texas that is managing the massive inflow of illegal immigrants, Lynch says.
“For people who may think this is a fake picture, notice the shoe laces. We make everyone remove their laces,” Lynch’s unidentified contact said.
It’s not clear who would have distributed the shoes.

The Crisis on the Border
No one who wants to help has authority, and no one with authority is helping.

What is happening at the southern border is a true and actual crisis. News accounts justly use words like chaos, collapse and breakdown. They feature images of children—toddlers, 4- and 5-year-olds—being shuffled to warehouse holding centers, sleeping crowded at night on what look like pallets, covered only in Mylar blankets. “I never thought we’d have refugee camps in America,” said Texas Sen. John Cornyn, “but that’s what it’s appearing.”
All this gives normal people a feeling of besiegement and foreboding. Is a nation without borders a nation? Washington’s leaders seem to recognize what’s happening as a political problem, not a real problem. That is, they betray no honest alarm. They just sort of stand in clusters and say things.
There seem only two groups that view the situation with appropriate alarm.
One is the children themselves, dragged through deserts to be deposited here. To them, everything is a swirl of lights, color and clamor, and shouting and clanking. A reporter touring a detainment center in Texas noted a blank, lost look among some of the younger children. Every mother knows what that suggests. Children who cry and wail anticipate comfort: That’s why they’re crying, to alert those who care for them that something is wrong. But little children who are blank, withdrawn, who don’t show or at some point know what they’re feeling—those children are in trouble.
The other group feeling a proper alarm is normal Americans, who are seeing all this on TV and who judge they are witnessing a level of lawlessness that has terrible implications for the country.
This is how I think normal people are experiencing what is happening:

It’s like you live in a house that’s falling apart. The roof needs to be patched and there are squirrels in the attic, a hornet’s nest in the eaves. The basement’s wet. The walkway to the front door is cracked with grass growing through it. The old boiler is making funny sounds. On top of that it’s always on your mind that you could lose your job tomorrow and must live within strict confines so you can meet the mortgage and pay the electric bill. You can’t keep the place up and you’re equal parts anxious, ashamed and angry. And then one morning you look outside and see . . . all these people standing on your property, looking at you, making some mute demand. Little children looking lost—no one’s taking care of them. Older ones settling in the garage, or working a window to the cellar. You call the cops. At first they don’t come. Then they come and shout through a bull horn and take some of the kids and put them in a shelter a few blocks away. But more kids keep coming! You call your alderman and he says there’s nothing he can do. Then he says wait, we’re going to pass a bill and get more money to handle the crisis. You ask, “Does that mean the kids will go home?” He says no, but it may make things feel more orderly. You call the local TV station and they come do a report on your stoop and then they’re gone, because really, what can they do, and after a few days it’s getting to be an old story.
No one’s in charge! No one is taking responsibility. No one who wants to help has authority, and no one with authority is helping.
America is the house that is both falling apart and under new stress. Those living within it, those most upset by what they’re seeing, know America has big problems—unemployment, low workforce participation, a rickety physical infrastructure, an unsound culture, poor public education. And of course discord of all sorts—a lot of mad squirrels running around the attic. They know America can’t pay its bills. They fear we’re living on the fumes of greatness. They want us to be strong again. Watching our border collapse doesn’t look like a harbinger of progress.
Here it must be said that those who live comfortable lives can afford to roll with the historical punches. But people who are not affluent live closer to the ground, and closer to the country’s deterioration. The rougher America becomes, the more they feel the abrasion. They’re not protected.
And they know no one wants to be in charge, wants to seize this thing and take responsibility. The mind-boggling fact is that everyone in charge more or less suggests they’re powerless to do anything. And the children keep coming.

Mothers have been putting their children on busses to Amerikka (while retaining all child support, SNAP/EBT benefits) in search of a safer life with access to birth control, medical care and an Obamaphone.

Democrat hopes immigration crisis isn’t ‘Obama’s Katrina moment’
Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, is worried President Obama’s decision to not visit the U.S-Mexico border while he’s in Texas this week will become his “Katrina moment.”
“I’m sure that President Bush thought the same thing, that he could just look at everything from up in the sky, and then he owned it after a long time,” Cuellar said Monday in a Fox News interview with Neil Cavuto. “So I hope this doesn’t become the Katrina moment for President Obama, saying that he doesn’t need to come to the border. He should come down.”
George W. Bush was widely criticized for his administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005. Among other things, Bush was slammed for praising then-FEMA director Michael Brown by saying “Brownie, you’re doing a heckuva job” and for a photograph taken from Air Force One in which he was seen peering at the wreckage.
In 2010, Bush told Matt Lauer of NBC that the photo was a “huge mistake” and that he should have had his plane land in Baton Rouge, La., so he could meet with the governor and state officials about the hurricane.
Obama will head to Texas on Wednesday for a fundraiser in Dallas for House Democrats and then travel to Austin on Thursday for a Democratic National Committee event and a speech on the economy. He has been criticized by Texas Gov. Rick Perry and others for not scheduling a visit to the border and for his response to the immigration crisis.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Monday that the president is “not worried about those optics.” The Obama administration is expected to provide details on a new budget request to address the immigration crisis on Tuesday.

The House Homeland Security Committee held a field hearing last week in McAllen, Texas on the subject of unaccompanied children crossing the border illegally. Border Patrol statistics show the number of immigrants — adults and children — coming from countries other than Mexico who were arrested at the Southwest border has soared from 46,997 in fiscal year 2011 to nearly 150,000 in fiscal year 2013.
Cuellar, whose district stretches from just south of San Antonio to the U.S.-Mexico border, said the immigration issue “is not only a humanitarian crisis” but also points to problems with homeland security.

I do not see why everyone makes this so difficult. The United States has now become something that most Americans will not fight for. Do I want to fight for Sears and Target and Walmart? Will I pick up a gun to defend the “rights” of transgender high-schooler’s to have their own bathroom? Will I put my life on the line for Wall St. or for Congress?
America has become something that most people no longer believe in defending. Those in power know this and they know that we will turn on them at the very first sign of weakness. They know what awaits them. French Revolution anyone?
The only way they can save themselves is to buy some loyalty by allowing the barbarians to settle here – just like Rome did. They can promise the barbarians the sweat of our labor in order to keep themselves in power just a little longer.

Americans are down on America
We’re No. 33!
That’s the bottom line in a new Gallup poll measuring the extent of freedom in 135 countries. Only 79% of Americans say they’re satisfied with their freedom to choose what to do with their lives, down from 87% in 2008. The top five nations where people feel most satisfied with their freedoms are New Zealand, Australia, Cambodia, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates. At No. 33, the United States is sandwiched between Bahrain and Cameroon.
Gallup doesn’t define “freedom” in this poll, so citizens of different countries are likely to interpret the word differently. That’s why Cambodians — enjoying peaceful elections as they recover from years of war — rank among the top five. Still, changes over time show whether people in a given nation feel their freedoms are improving or deteriorating.
The United States is one of the few places where freedoms appear to be on the wane. Of the 100 countries where Gallup measured changes in freedom during the past five years, 75 of them registered an improvement, while 21 registered a decline. Four stayed the same. Of the decliners, only five nations report sharper drops than the United States. Two of them — Syria and Afghanistan — are dominated by armed uprisings. Two others — Tajikistan and Thailand — are racked with political turmoil. Luxembourg, the most prosperous of the decliners, has become a target of U.S. and European authorities going after tax evaders with foreign accounts.
A newfound humility
Such unruly company seems to have knocked some of the swagger out of the typical American. In a separate set of polls by Pew Research, the percentage of Americans who believe the United States “stands above all other countries” dropped from 38% in 2011 to 28% in 2014. Young Americans are least impressed with their home country, with only 15% of 18-29-year-olds saying the United States is the world’s No. 1 nation. Among seniors, 40% feel that way — but still, that’s down from 50% just three years ago.
That newfound humility corresponds with an economic comedown that is looking permanent for an uncomfortably large portion of Americans. The recession that ended in 2009 ravaged the economic fortunes of many American families, with median household wealth still about 40% lower than it was before the recession. Jobs have finally started to return, but for many workers, pay is lower than it used to be. People feel they’re falling behind, and the data show they’re not imagining things. That’s a loss of economic freedom, which impacts other choices.
Many Americans seem to question the basic premise that everybody can get ahead in the so-called land of the free. A recent analysis by USA Today found living the American Dream, loosely defined, costs a typical family of four roughly $130,000 per year. That’s in a country where the median household income is only about $53,000, or less than half of what’s needed for a middle-class lifestyle.
One can quibble with USA Today’s methodology, which includes nearly $5,000 for an annual one-week vacation, $3,700 for dining out every year and thousands more for college and retirement funds. Many people live comfortably without such extras. Yet part of the American Dream (which itself has never been clearly defined) is the financial stability that comes from knowing you’ve got enough money to continually improve your living standards and handle any surprises that may pop up.
Such tangible declines in middle-class living standards represent the most important economic trend in a generation. The recovery that followed the recession and began in 2009 has been the weakest since the 1930s. A gridlocked Washington may deserve some of the blame, yet digital technology and globalization have allowed companies to locate work wherever it’s cheapest and replace employees with computers, robots and other gizmos. Americans are rightly fed up with their government but there may not be all that much Washington can do to reinvigorate an economy that still has too much debt clogging its veins.
A fresh dose of humility, ironically, may help get America back on track. Americans love to chant “We’re No. 1!” but, when asked their own opinions, they clearly believe we’re not anymore. As people complain about tough times, though, they’re also recalibrating their priorities and plotting comeback strategies. Developing an underdog mentality is a good start.

More than half of legal and illegal immigrant households from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras are on at least one form of public assistance, according to an analysis of government data by a limited immigration group.
Based on the Census Bureau’s March 2013 Current Population Survey, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reports that most legal and illegal immigrant heads of households from these three countries received benefits from at least one major benefit program like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), food stamps (SNAP), free/reduced lunch, public/subsidized housing, and/or Medicaid.
Some 57 percent of households headed by an El Salvadoran used one such major welfare program, as did 54 percent of Honduran households and 49 percent of Guatemalan households. By comparison, 24 percent of households headed by a native-born American used at least one of these programs.
While the welfare use among immigrants from these countries is higher, their levels of employment are about on par with native-born Americans.
Based on the 2013 Census data reviewed by CIS, 77 percent of immigrants between the ages of 25 to 54 from El Salvador were employed, while 74 percent of Guatemalan immigrants in that age range had a job as did 73 percent of Honduran immigrants. For native-born Americans, that figure was 76 percent.
The data comes amid a meltdown at the U.S. southern border, as tens of thousands of unaccompanied minor and family units — largely from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala — stream illegally into the country.
The New York Times reported last week that the government is sending an expected 290,000 illegal immigrants around the U.S. to cope with the influx at the border.
Based on the most recent Census numbers, in 2012 there were 2.7 million immigrants from these three countries total, which, according to CIS, has increased 234 percent since 1990. The number of both legal and illegal immigrants from El Salvador in 2012 was 1.3 million, 880,000 were from Guatemala, and 536,000 were from Honduras.
The government estimates that some 60 percent of the immigrants from these Central American countries are in the country illegally.
Other data-points from CIS include:
Language: Of immigrants from El Salvador, 70 percent report they speak English less than very well; for immigrants from Guatemala, it is 72 percent; and for immigrants from Honduras, it is 69 percent.
Home-ownership: Of households headed by Salvadoran immigrants, 41 percent are owner-occupied, as are 28 percent of Guatemalan households, and 29 percent of Honduran immigrant households. The corresponding figure for natives is 66 percent.
The Top-10 States of Settlement: California Texas, New York, Florida, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Georgia.
Educational Attainment: 54 percent of Guatemalan immigrants (ages 25 to 65) have not graduated high school. The figure for Salvadorans is 53 percent, and for Hondurans, 44 percent. The corresponding figure for native-born Americans is 7 percent.
Poverty: 32 percent of Honduran immigrants and their young children (under 18) live in poverty; as do 31 percent of Guatemalan immigrants and their children and 28 percent of Salvadoran immigrants and their children. The corresponding figure for natives and their children is 14 percent.4
Health Insurance: 47 percent of Guatemalan immigrants and their young children (under 18) do not have health insurance. The figure for both Salvadoran and Honduran immigrants and their young children is 41 percent. The corresponding figure for natives and their children is 13 percent.5
Share Working: 77 percent of immigrants from El Salvador (ages 25 to 54) have a job, as do 74 percent of Guatemalan immigrants and 73 percent of Honduran immigrants. The corresponding figure for natives is 76 percent.

At almost double the $2 billion that many had expected, The Washington Post reports that The White House will request $3.8 billion from Congress in emergency funding to deal with an influx of unaccompanied minors from Central America. Funds would be allocated to send more immigration judges to the southern border, build additional detention facilities and add border patrol agents, to help stem the recent surge of women and children from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Prior to the 1965 immigration “reform” disaster, Americans predominantly came from Europe—a continent whose history was rife with wars and sectarian conflict: Frank vs. Gaul, Gael vs. Anglo, Protestant vs. Catholic, French vs. English, Germany vs. Everybody, etc. However, by coming to the “new world”, we Europeans were able to set aside our differences. Yes, negative stereotypes persist, but I don’t think I’m alone in never having felt the need to isolate myself from Americans of any given European descent.
I.e., throughout our evolution from 13 colonies to 50 states, we Americans came to understand, that, sure, there are differences between Irish and Italian and English and Ashkenazi, but we have enough in common as to make the violent conflicts of the past a thing of, well, the past.
All great and good. But…then we enter into a category error.
Seeing that all European races could coexist peacefully and productively had led us to believe that all races and religions could coexist peacefully and productively, if only they were just given a chance to come to this magical “new world”.
Fifty years after luring in third world savages by the millions with free goodies to mob our cities and suburbs, tell me: How’s the data looking to support that belief?
Of course the data completely contradicts it. Yes, individuals from various races and ethnic groups may have risen to meet the standards of traditional Americans. But when we speak of “people”, we speak of group characteristics, not individual characteristics. And wherever peoples from the third world have settled in America, lo’ and behold, we have the third world…in America.
Extreme poverty. Dismal academic performance. Disease. Savage violence. Chaos. These are not accidents of geography or “culture”. These are the “products” of people who are intellectually and/or emotionally incapable of getting their acts together. And, despite the bleating of fantasy-land libtards, both IQ and EQ are largely genetically determined.
I.e., unless we plan on genetically reengineering third worlders, they will remain third worlders, regardless of the geography in which they are located, under what form of government they operate, in which cultural milieu they exist, or how much of our wealth we throw at them.

Of course they will never admit to it—all of this “open borders” nonsense is always couched in sanctimonious, “anti-racist” claptrap about race being nothing but a “social construct” and such. These “undocumented migrants” want to be ruled, they want to be given free stuff, and they don’t want to have to produce amazing things to live comfortably (because they don’t have the capacity to live freely, subsist on their own, or create amazing things).
The lie of racial egalitarianism sounds oh-so morally superior, and has thus proven the perfect smokescreen for the enemies of our nation and our peoples, for this lie has been gobbled up hook, line and sinker by the gullible on both the left and the right. It is not only leftists who squeal “racism” at the mere mention of racial differences, but so-called “conservatives” too. And with racial differences thus being rendered taboo across the ideological spectrum, we find ourselves unable to articulate a coherent argument against the invasion of our country by third world hordes.
At a gut level, I believe we all know what is happening. But few have the intellectual courage to admit it to themselves; fewer yet have the courage to voice it publicly. Nurses say the number of children representing symptoms of tuberculosis is ‘simply staggering.’ Spitting up blood, chest pains, constant coughing. Obama wants $3.7 billion more to tend to illegals
White House says kids aren’t deported fast enough
Federal officials last week paid $584 to buy four versions of Monopoly, five packs of playing cards, a dozen beanbag tosses and other games for illegal immigrant children — a small fraction of what the Obama administration now says it will take to clothe, feed, transport, house and, yes, entertain the children surging across the border.
Government contractors stand to see a good payday after President Obama submitted a request Tuesday for an additional $3.7 billion this year to cover the costs of handling the illegal immigrant families and, most costly, the unaccompanied children from Central America who are entering the U.S. in record numbers.
“There are significant resources that are required to deal with the situation,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said. “What we would like are some additional resources to make sure that we’re enforcing that law efficiently, both in terms of processing them through the immigration system, but also in terms of repatriating them if it’s found that they don’t have a legal basis for remaining in the country.”
Mr. Obama sent a letter to Congress detailing a request for 2014 alone: $879 million in additional funding to detain and deport illegal immigrant families, $116 million to transport unaccompanied children, and $522 million for more law enforcement both on the border and in Central America.
Mr. Obama also is asking for an additional $1.8 billion for the Health and Human Services Department to be able to house the children while they are awaiting immigration court hearings; $300 million for the State Department try to create better economic and security conditions in Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador; and $64 million for the Justice Department to hire more immigration judges.
The request puts an initial dollar figure on the border crisis but does little to settle the heated dispute over the way Mr. Obama is handling it.
“President Obama created this disaster at our southern border, and now he is asking to use billions of taxpayer dollars without accountability or a plan in place to actually stop the border crisis,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte. “Most of the money requested in the president’s supplemental seems geared toward processing Central Americans than stopping the surge itself.”

This latest (cough) “humanitarian crisis” supposedly just came to a head because of the 2008 Wilberforce Law on unaccompanied minors that requires due process before ejecting any illegally encroaching minors who aren’t from Mexico or Canada. Leaving aside the complete improbability of this “crisis” spontaneously erupting 5 years after the law was passed, some supposed conservative (like showboat Ted Cruz) should introduce legislation to amend that law such that any illegal entrant to the US – without regard to age or country of origin – can be immediately returned to the country from which they snuck into the US. If they sneak in from Mexico, we should be able to drop them right back INTO Mexico (like we can with Mexicans right now) whether they’re originally from Guatemala or Austria.
I’d like to see the poll results on this question: “Would you support a change in law to allow returning illegal entrants to the country from which they entered the US?”
They say each kid paid 8k to get here. There’s something very wrong if the poor SA peasants can save up this much money. We need to impoverish them much more so they can’t afford that 8k of disposable income. Also, if we actually boot the parasites back across the border so the Mexicants have to deal with them, they will quickly get sorted out and the peasants will figure out their 8k isn’t generating a returm. GilbertS, when I was a kid living in a “grindingly poor” barrio, we used to listen to a lot of ‘cuentos’ or folktales. A lot of them may be familiar to you because as they say in the movies, ‘only the names have been changed to protect the innocent’.

I have a story too main. A senor was standing outside a woven metal fence, looking in at all the people working. He saw they all wore yellow vests, and on their head rested a chiny hardhat. Just cuz’ folks are poor is not an automatic reason welcome them here. America is not and should not and can not be the default bin for the world’s poor. We’re already swamped with poor of our own. We aren’t capable of funding freebies for the world’s poor, nor is that our job. And America was NEVER a revolving door welcoming everyone. It never was; that stupid poem on that statue in NY was never official policy. Look up how historical immigration actually worked. One of my grandfathers almost didn’t get in, himself, due to his age-he was otherwise healthy, skilled, and employed (and fleeing Czarist oppression). When you consider we are trillions in debt (120+ trillion collectively), and have nearly half the nation on entitlements, there is absolutely no reason to allow more parasites in. We can’t afford more useless eaters.
What’s more, if we deported all the moochers, freeloaders, parasites, tax eaters, takers, etc back to their nations of origin, perhaps they could fix their shitty countries and start creating those opportunities and chances of success for themselves at home. We are merely perpetuating rotten systems South of our border. Mexico, for example. I have read Mexico is one of the wealthiest nations on earth when it comes to natural resources, but everything is tied up in the corrupt hands of a tiny minority and has been pretty much since the Spanish arrived. Allowing their people to flood into this nation is merely a pressure relief valve for a messed-up failing nation. IF we send all the illegals back and cut off the flow of USD back to Mexico, perhaps they would start making some changes and start building a better Mexico. Or not. Either way, America is not Mexico’s dumping ground for undesirables. BTW-I’ve seen a couple news articles in the last year about what happens when Mexicans actually take responsibility and start trying to protect their towns from drug dealers. Homegrown militias with deer rifles and shotguns takeing over where the cops and narcoterrorists have created chaos. Perhaps they would benefit from an angry population taking over nation-wide?
America is, or was, a nation of laws. Part of that includes maintaining a strong border and keeping foreigners out until they’ve been processed and checked and inspected and found acceptable. It’s important to me , since I have actually been through the process with my wife. It makes me really mad after the thousands of dollars I spent, the immense investment in time and uncertainty and all the forms and BS govt nonsense, all the hoops we jumped through, the interviews, the fingerprinting, the doctor’s checks, the shots, arbitrary and randoms schedulings and cancellations and all that waiting apart in 2 different nations, etc- It makes me mad as hell that our people and politicians are too lazy, too weak, to make criminal illegal aliens follow the same rules because it’s easier or cheaper or more profitable to them to ignore the rules. It also makes me sick both sides of the aisle want to allow them in either for cheap, exploitable labor, prospecitve voters, or new union members. (I suspect when business AND labor are on the same side, it can’t be good.) The Constitution is supposed to ensure the rules are equal for all. To me, that means all the illegals gotta go back to the end of the line, or just out of the line, since cheating should also be penalized. I went through far too much BS following the rules for this to be just.
Also, why shouldn’t we demand the best from prospective applicants? Why can’t we be selective and take the smartest, most educated, most wealthy, most inventive, most healthy immigrants? It isn’t like we need more people. It isn’t like we’re full of industries that need employees. Our business criminals and politicians have run off our industries and dis-employed nearly half the workforce, so it isn’t like we need more poor unskilled labor. Taking in South America’s ignorant peasants in no way makes us better off. It weakens us and ruins the stupid social welfare net we’ve been burdened with by nearly 100 years of do-gooder liberals.
When you look at the problem of inflation in our economy, I think it applies to citizenship, as well. What’s the point of citizenship when it’s no longer exclusive? We hand out the benefits of being American to non-Americans and ignore the basics of Borders, Language, and Culture. Free education, free food, free housing, free heating, free phonez, free internet, free healthcare, free clothes, etc. What’s the point of being American when all the freebies are going to non-Americans? For the patriots out there, doesn’t it make America hard to defend when you’re fighting for a policy of open borders for non-Americans who are just here to suck up the bennies and contribute nothing to us? What is there to defend when our “leaders” don’t value our borders, language, and culture? If TPTB don’t care about those 3 fundamental things, then what’s left? Borders, language, and culture ARE America.
At least cancel the handouts. At least kill all the freebies-that would probably halt the flow for the most part. Enforce the laws against hiring illegals and the flow would become a trickle. Finally, I have the ultimate (won’t say final!) solution.
-Let’s find the willpower, the intestinal fortitude, to declare all criminal illegal aliens’ property, due to their continuous and constant daily violation of our laws, to be forfeit as the proceeds of a continuing criminal enterprise and send our local, state, and federal law enforcement out into the hinterland to find, identify, and seize their homes, cars, bank accounts, and other property. With an enticement like that, I suspect the cops would finally have a reason to hunt them down and get rid of them. Streamline the process for deportation and send the anchor babies with them until they are 18 or a legal citizen guardian steps forward to house and protect them here. No family members can join the anchor baby-it stays with the family or guardian until 18. Oh, and let’s offer bounties to citizens for turning them in, too. We have millions of unemployed who might find a job in hunting down the illegals in our country. Win-Win!
Let’s get back to basics, enforce the laws, and kick the moochers back where they belong and act like being an American actually means something. Your taxes and your community might be better, if you still don’t see a benefit in halting the flow of drugs, human trafficking, murders, the resurgence of previously-eradicated diseases, the drain on public services, closure of emergency rooms, and other crimes.

Illegals Continue To Walk All Over Obama, Now With Obama-Themed Shoes
Some of the illegal immigrants surging across the U.S. border from Central America and creating a growing humanitarian crisis may be wearing tennis shoes emblazoned with images in praise of President Barack Obama, according to Dennis Michael Lynch at his website, DMLDaily.
“I’ve received two sets of photos from two contacts at the border,” Lynch explains. “I cannot validate the authenticity of the pictures. But I can say the agents who sent these to me is among a handful of agents who have sent me accurate information over the past few months.”
The agent works at a processing center in South Texas that is managing the massive inflow of illegal immigrants, Lynch says.
“For people who may think this is a fake picture, notice the shoe laces. We make everyone remove their laces,” Lynch’s unidentified contact said.
It’s not clear who would have distributed the shoes.

The Crisis on the Border
No one who wants to help has authority, and no one with authority is helping.

What is happening at the southern border is a true and actual crisis. News accounts justly use words like chaos, collapse and breakdown. They feature images of children—toddlers, 4- and 5-year-olds—being shuffled to warehouse holding centers, sleeping crowded at night on what look like pallets, covered only in Mylar blankets. “I never thought we’d have refugee camps in America,” said Texas Sen. John Cornyn, “but that’s what it’s appearing.”
All this gives normal people a feeling of besiegement and foreboding. Is a nation without borders a nation? Washington’s leaders seem to recognize what’s happening as a political problem, not a real problem. That is, they betray no honest alarm. They just sort of stand in clusters and say things.
There seem only two groups that view the situation with appropriate alarm.
One is the children themselves, dragged through deserts to be deposited here. To them, everything is a swirl of lights, color and clamor, and shouting and clanking. A reporter touring a detainment center in Texas noted a blank, lost look among some of the younger children. Every mother knows what that suggests. Children who cry and wail anticipate comfort: That’s why they’re crying, to alert those who care for them that something is wrong. But little children who are blank, withdrawn, who don’t show or at some point know what they’re feeling—those children are in trouble.
The other group feeling a proper alarm is normal Americans, who are seeing all this on TV and who judge they are witnessing a level of lawlessness that has terrible implications for the country.
This is how I think normal people are experiencing what is happening:

It’s like you live in a house that’s falling apart. The roof needs to be patched and there are squirrels in the attic, a hornet’s nest in the eaves. The basement’s wet. The walkway to the front door is cracked with grass growing through it. The old boiler is making funny sounds. On top of that it’s always on your mind that you could lose your job tomorrow and must live within strict confines so you can meet the mortgage and pay the electric bill. You can’t keep the place up and you’re equal parts anxious, ashamed and angry. And then one morning you look outside and see . . . all these people standing on your property, looking at you, making some mute demand. Little children looking lost—no one’s taking care of them. Older ones settling in the garage, or working a window to the cellar. You call the cops. At first they don’t come. Then they come and shout through a bull horn and take some of the kids and put them in a shelter a few blocks away. But more kids keep coming! You call your alderman and he says there’s nothing he can do. Then he says wait, we’re going to pass a bill and get more money to handle the crisis. You ask, “Does that mean the kids will go home?” He says no, but it may make things feel more orderly. You call the local TV station and they come do a report on your stoop and then they’re gone, because really, what can they do, and after a few days it’s getting to be an old story.
No one’s in charge! No one is taking responsibility. No one who wants to help has authority, and no one with authority is helping.
America is the house that is both falling apart and under new stress. Those living within it, those most upset by what they’re seeing, know America has big problems—unemployment, low workforce participation, a rickety physical infrastructure, an unsound culture, poor public education. And of course discord of all sorts—a lot of mad squirrels running around the attic. They know America can’t pay its bills. They fear we’re living on the fumes of greatness. They want us to be strong again. Watching our border collapse doesn’t look like a harbinger of progress.
Here it must be said that those who live comfortable lives can afford to roll with the historical punches. But people who are not affluent live closer to the ground, and closer to the country’s deterioration. The rougher America becomes, the more they feel the abrasion. They’re not protected.
And they know no one wants to be in charge, wants to seize this thing and take responsibility. The mind-boggling fact is that everyone in charge more or less suggests they’re powerless to do anything. And the children keep coming.
