I am afraid he would not recognize the country he left behind.

Bob.

His music was an acquired taste, but once acquired never forgotten.

What acquired taste? The man in black sang for us all. Ring of fire, A boy named Sue, I walk the line, Folsom Prison Blues. It’s all in here, man. KK gave him a shout out in the intro to The Prophet and Joaquin Phoenix recalled his interpretation of Joaquin’s line: your wife moaned like a whore…

I was late in the game to appreciating the work of Mr. Cash, brilliant song writer and story teller, his voice filled with emotion from years of living on the edge. Some part of his catalog is included in all my playlists now. Might have been the original rock and roll bad ass.

If you are ever in Memphis go to SUN studios and stand in the studio where JC, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins got their start and many others since then have recorded. It is a religious experience if you are into any of the above music. It is truly amazing how at one time in this country people could walk into a studio and convince someone (Sam Phillips) to put out a record JC did that and the rest is history.
