Does Iran Really Want a Bomb?

Does Iran Really Want a Bomb?

America, we have a problem.

In the blood-soaked chaotic Middle East, with few exceptions like the Kurds, our friends either can’t or won’t fight.

The Free Syrian Army folded. The U.S.-armed Hazm force in Syria has just collapsed after being routed by the al-Nusra Front. The Iraqi army we trained and equipped fled Mosul and ran all the way to Baghdad.

The Turks could annihilate ISIS in Syria, but they won’t fight. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Arabs have sent zero troops to fight ISIS. A handful of air strikes is it.

Now consider what our old enemies have done and are doing.

Hezbollah and Iran have sustained Bashar Assad’s Syrian army for four years and have ISIS and the al-Nusra Front on the defensive around Aleppo.

Iran and its allied Shiite militia in Iraq are battling ISIS for Tikrit.

Backed by Hezbollah, Houthi rebels have seized Yemen’s capital and are battling al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. AQAP is the No. 1 terrorist threat to the U.S. homeland.

While Iran and its allies are fighting al-Qaida and ISIS, Turkey and our Arab allies are malingerers at best and collaborators at worst.

How explain this? Not difficult.

The Shiites, a religious minority in the Muslim world — Hezbollah, Assad’s regime, Baghdad, Tehran — see ISIS as a mortal threat and are willing to fight to kill the monster.

Our Sunni allies won’t go out and fight ISIS, because that would make them allies of Iran and the Shiites, whom they fear even more.

Our Sunni friends want America to crush ISIS and al-Qaida, then to crush Hezbollah, Syria and Iran. But why is it in our interest to send U.S. troops back into any of these wars?

Is America more threatened than our Arab allies?

Rather than listening to allies who are non-combatants, we should take a hard look at the Mideast. To whom does the future belong? And with what can we live?

The Republicans want to give a blank check to Obama and any future president to fight ISIS and al-Qaida everywhere and forever. And they want the United States to treat Iran as we should have treated Nazi Germany had Hitler been about to get the bomb.

But if the GOP platform takes the neocon-Netanyahu line that we must not only fight ISIS and al-Qaida, but also Iran and Syria, the party will imperil its improving chances for 2016.

Americans don’t want another war.

And if John Kerry comes home with a deal on Iran’s nuclear program, Americans are likely to reject a party that is seen as trying to torpedo that deal, when the alternative is war with Iran.

We do not know exactly what is in the Kerry deal, but what has been revealed thus far is no cause for panic or hysteria.

Though Israel has 200 atomic bombs, Iran has not produced a single ounce of uranium enriched to bomb-grade 90 percent.

Since talks began, Iran has diluted all of its 20-percent enriched uranium and halted production. Tehran is willing to cut her operating centrifuges by a third.

Inspectors and cameras are now in all of Iran’s nuclear facilities. The heavy-water plant at Arak, which would produce plutonium, has been halted. The reprocessing plant that would be needed to extract bomb-grade material has not even been started.

U.S. intelligence agencies in 2007 and 2011 declared, with high confidence, that Iran has no active bomb program.

While Bibi Netanyahu says the Ayatollah tweeted that Israel must be “annihilated,” the same Ayatollah issued a fatwa against Iran ever producing nuclear weapons.

We cannot trust Iran, we are told. Correct. Nor should we, as history has proven. Moscow cheated on Nixon’s SALT I agreement by replacing its light single-warhead SS-11 missiles with heavy SS-19s with multiple warheads.

But as Meir Dagan, ex-head of Mossad points out, if Iran cheats at any of its facilities, we will know it, and it would take a year before Tehran could produce enough highly enriched uranium even to test a bomb.

Plenty of time to gas up the B-2s.

Another question, too rarely raised, is this:

Why would Iran test and build a nuclear bomb, when this would set off a nuclear arms race across the Middle East and put Iran in mortal peril of being smashed by the United States, or by Israel with a preemptive strike?

Right now, Hezbollah dominates Lebanon. Assad is gaining ground in Syria. Iraq, thanks to “W,” is Iran’s ally, not the mortal enemy of Saddam’s day. The Houthi have Sanaa.

The Shiite majority in Bahrain, where the U.S. Fifth Fleet is berthed, will one day dominate that Gulf state. And the Shiites in oil-rich northeast Saudi Arabia will one day rise up against Riyadh.

Why build a bomb, why get into a war with a nuclear-armed superpower, when everything’s going your way?

Iran – just one of many fucking shit hole, turd world, countries. These people have nothing, and live in about the 10th century. Don’t fucking work, don’t produce anything. The money they get is from pumping their oil.

What do they want anything nuclear for?

The LAST thing this world needs is yet another country with nukes. Not to mention a mooslim nation, cuz let’s face it, they have some crazy jihad loving nuts and you just never know if one will become the leader.

Here’s all Iran needs to do to guarantee it’s safety. Become REALLY good friends with a country that has a shitload of nukes. Like …. ummm … Russia.

Americans are so easy to dupe.

The neocon mythology sells easily. Why, Joe Sixpack wonders, would people in Iran hate the USA?

It’s not like an arm of the US government engineered a coup de tat, toppling a regime Iranians voted for, in favor of a monarch who was a complete totalitarian dictator, whose fingernail-pulling, genital-shocking secret police were openly trained by US operatives, right?

Oh.

Americans are among the most pug-ignorant people on the planet. All the better for our rulers…it’s so easy to manipulate ignorant people. It’s easy to get droves of volunteers for the military post 9/11 when so many idiots thought Iraq was the guilty party. Stupid, ignorant, Chauvinistic people don’t even notice the puppeteers’ strings on their arms and legs.

Ignorant people don’t feel the puppeteer’s hand up their asses, elbow-deep, working them like sock-puppets.

Iran is a large, geographically diverse and beautiful country, with beaches and ski resorts. Like a lot of places on Earth, an attractive place to visit except for the political games being played, guilt for which have more to do with the demons ruling from Mordor-on-the-Potomac than anywhere else.

The future is baked into the present.

Wait until the Trotskyist, Straussian neocons get their way and the US doubles down on current and continuing acts of war on Iran. Wait until some provocation is simply too great to tolerate (think the British and US oil embargo on Japan that seeded the attack on Pearl Harbor.)

Then we’ll see what sitting ducks are modern carrier battle groups, when actual modern supersonic antiship missiles are employed.

The necons and Likudnicks will get their splendid war, complete with orchestrating the PERCEPTION that the other guy shot first. Never mind that the USA has been funding and arranging assassinations and all sorts of espionage inside Iran since probably when the Shah was ousted.

For all of the intelligent individuals frequenting this inglorious site, for the life of me I can’t figure out how the world came to be this way.

Or wait, maybe everyone on this site is as clever as they think they are, right, stukky?

The Persian people are a ancient and noble people. They are held hostage by a 7th century totalitarian dictatorship who believes they will be instrumental bringing about the end of days and the return of the hidden Mahdi the 12 th imam. They have 19000 centrifuges spinning right now. ( thats enough to make enough HEU for 20 bombs a year). There is little doubt they are looking to become a nuclear state. when Pakistan went nuclear in 1998 they tested 6 nuclear bombs in one day. ( testing all their designs at once) Iran will do something similar. They will have 20 or 30 bombs before the world sees a test/announcement. a nuclear Iran with the current regime is a existential threat to the world. The question is what is the lesser evil. Attack and destroy Irans industrial nuclear infrastructure with American expertise and conventional weapons perhaps killing a couple of thousand people. Or wait for them to go nuclear and 1 either force Israel to act. Israel lacking out capabilities would have to use nukes to take out their nuclear infrastructure. Killing about 4-5 million innocent people. 2 Or wait for the nuclear armed mullahs to attack Saudi Arabia, Israel or the USA. with a nuke. Remember the Iranians making the decisions are apocalyptic in their world view. … The retaliation against Iran would eradicate Iran and probably kill 65 million Persians and forever remove Iran from the earth. (Israel has the power to do that alone. ) No one wants war but what is the choice. Act now or it will be much more horrific later

Iran’s mythical atomic weapons program is and has always been 100% Israeli propaganda to direct attention away from their treatment of the palestinians and their own atomic arsenal.

How is that different from a Christian President who believes Jeebus is coming back soon … but first Armageddon must come …. like, you know, Ronnie Reagan. hmmm?

Soooo, you’re more than will to kill a few thousand innocent people because of what they MIGHT be capable of, even though there’s no evidence they even want this thing?

You are one seriously dumb motherfuckin’ PINHEAD. (Where’s Araven when you need her??)

What people don’t understand is that the moral component wins out eventually.

Except for Biblical literalists, Israel as a state is a quasi-socialist combination of theocracy and oligarchy. It has no more claim to the land on which it sits than do those who have been herded into camps.

Those who believe Israel is entitled to that land must also imagine that the survivors of Native American tribes are entitled to 100% of North America. Let’s see those who believe this line up to march into the Atlantic Ocean.

Jews have as much right to live as everyone else, but no nation-state has a right to exist. Nation-states are simply political entities, and as such HAVE NO RIGHTS.

History will judge the State of Israel harshly. Its rulers behave as badly as any totalitarians in the modern era.

If Ed is right and Israel eventually nukes a country that has not already nuked Israel, Israel will join the ranks of the most demonized of all political entities. In that regard, if Israel’s rulers slaughter millions of innocent people (Persians, Arabs, Kiwis, whatever), as a NATION STATE it will be washed from the sands of time.

Nothing lasts forever. I doubt any nation-state existing today will be here a thousand years from now. But some will live in infamy, and any whose rulers drop the Bomb on someplace just because they “thought” those guys were a threat will be lighting the halls of hell for eternity.

The truth comes out eventually, too. If Israel or the USA pulls another Lincoln or FDR and tries to goad another nation’s rulers to attack (as a means of justifying the war Israel’s or the USA’s rulers want), eventually the court historians who spin the lies all die off and the truth of what actually happened becomes known.

“… Israel as a state is a quasi-socialist combination of theocracy and oligarchy” — DC Sunsets

I believe that’s incorrect. There is no theocracy in government. In fact, I believe they have specific laws that forbid it. It is entirely a secular government.

It matters little what Iran wants. The Joo financed Rethuglican Party wants blood and it’s blood they shall have, regardless of the cost in life or treasure.

Sen. Tom Cotton wants war with Iran. He even wrote a letter hoping to stop any agreement between the US and Iran. But guess what: he is ignorant of the basic facts of Iran’s nuclear program. Why is he so passionate? Maybe because arch-neocon Bill Kristol’s Emergency Committee for Israel gave him a million dollars in the closing days of his campaign. Read the details at the link:

The U.S. Is the Greatest Terror State
Laurence M. Vance

The Islamic State hasn’t burned alive any children yet, but if it did it would be 70 years too late. Here is a brief description from History.com of the firebombing of Tokyo 70 years ago:

On this day, U.S. warplanes launch a new bombing offensive against Japan, dropping 2,000 tons of incendiary bombs on Tokyo over the course of the next 48 hours. Almost 16 square miles in and around the Japanese capital were incinerated, and between 80,000 and 130,000 Japanese civilians were killed in the worst single firestorm in recorded history.

Forget the Islamic State, forget Boko Haram, forget al-Qaeda, forget al-Shabaab, forget the Taliban–the U.S. is the greatest terror state.

Wow I thought Jim Quinn’s excellent blog had semi intelligent readers. I guess I was mistaken. I am neither a Jew or a born again Christian or a troll. I just observe the world as it really is not some fantasy construct. Iran with nukes in the hands of the regime that is running it is a horrible danger to the world. Iran with nukes run by a democratic government of the regular Iranian people would not be.
Obama stood on the sidelines in 2009 when the Iranian people had a chance to throw off the evil regime they live under. A completely immoral thing not to assist the Iranians at that time.

The more immediate danger now is the neocons of both parties in DC and NATO in Brussels pushing crazily in Ukraine for a land war with Russia. Maybe all the vociferous commentators here will wake up in the not too distant future being vaporized by a Russian SS-27. They will have to wait about 5 years for Iran to field a ICBM to strike the US. No one addressed any point I made concerning Irans program just invective. any objective person would conclude a regime running 15,000 to 19,000 centrifuges buried under a couple of mountains is not pursuing a peaceful nuclear energy program. Last time i looked Oak Ridge in Tennessee was sitting out in the open, not under a mountain. I generally agree with Pat Buchanan but I disagree with him here. The USA will not act against Iran’s nuclear program i believe. My only point was that to do so would have saved many millions of lives. If you believe the mullahs with nukes are going to behave like a rational state you are delusional to the evidence.

Two facts for neoconfuk Eddie

1) The IAEA is all over Iran with FULL ACCESS to every site in inspecting Iran’s nuclear materials programs. You will not be able to FIND A SINGLE INSTANCE where the IAEA states that Iran is developing a nuclear weapon. Not. One.

2). Better yet …….. EVEN MOSSAD SAYS IRAN IS NOT DEVELOPING A BOMB! hahahaha. Let that sink in your fat skull, Eddie Boy!!!

Ed,

tell us why we should be scared of Iran that still have no nuke,

when their neighbor Pakistan have a hundred of it, is the worst shithole of the middle east, is full of batshit crasy fuckers that fill the ranks of terrorists worldwide, Pakistan whose head of intelligence service Mahmoud Ahmed sent 100 000$ to the leader of the terrorists Mohamed Atta prior to 9/11

Wow you are all crazy and very angry folks. If you read what i wrote the US assisted in the overthrow of a democratically elected gov’t in the Ukraine. They are provoking the Russian bear. (the Russian bear has big nuclear teeth and it is insanity to do what the US is doing there) Like all true lefties just personal attacks upon me. With considerable virulence I must say … not any evidence or arguments to justify your positions. Yes Pakistan is a danger with its nuclear weapons, mostly due to the danger of radicals overthrowing the govt. I am neither a Republican Neo con or Democrat/communist. I am a libertarian (registered) I had thought this blog was libertarian. I was wrong it is a place for lefties trapped in a rigid world view.

In any event I have no skin in the game If a couple of East Coast cities get nuked it wont much affect me as i don’t live anywhere near them but in the country on my little hobby farm.( where the food gets put on tractor trailers and shipped 1000 miles east every day to feed you folks) Maybe the mullahs (with their atoms for peace program) will get rid of your 30 blocks of squalor PERMANENTLY one day in the future Jimmy boy.

But then again it we keep messing with Putin he may erase Wall street, Wash DC and probably Philly, and Boston while he is at it.

right now, the single most important threat to the security of US civilians is their government.
Iran, even with 100 nukes ready to fly, wouldn’t be that much of a threat for the US.
when a government of thugs like the likud in Israel has 200 nukes and the willpower to use it as soon as it will be so call “justified”, you have the right to ensure deterrence.
MAD is what has kept the world away from WW3 for years and years, and will keep doing unless a bad motherfucker from the neocon dreamteam believes US has an edge on Russia and should use it for his NWO agenda.
fact is that Russia has a bunch of goodies on the shelves, and that fucking with them is an attempt to reduce your own population.
