Yet another round of criticism flared up on social media after the release of a video from the Tulsa County, Okla., Sheriff’s Office of a reportedly accidental fatal police shooting of an unarmed man by a reserve deputy.
Eric Harris, who was black, allegedly ran from police after he reportedly tried to sell an undercover officer a semiautomatic pistol in a sting operation and was killed by a 73-year-old white reserve deputy who thought he was firing a Taser gun, according to media reports.

It seems America can scarcely get through a week without a new video of perceived police misconduct surfacing and one can only think the trend will continue as each incident only serves to reinforce the notion that law enforcement should everywhere and always be monitored if not by civilian cell phone footage then at least by dash cams that actually work and perhaps by body cams as well.
On the heels of the South Carolina “confrontation” which led to the shooting death of Walter Scott, we get a new video out of Tulsa in which one Eric Courtney Harris — who apparently sold an illegal firearm to undercover agents and who CNN compassionately describes as a “possibly PCP-addled felon” — is “accidentally” shot by a 73-old reserve deputy who apparently could not distinguish between his Taser and his glock. “Oh, I shot him, sorry” the deputy says although the other officers don’t seem to share the deputy’s remorse because when Harris (whose head is pressed between the ground and someone’s knee) says “I’m losing my breath,” the officers let him know, in no uncertain terms, that they are not concerned with his breathing.

The reserve deputy who shot a suspect with his firearm rather than his stun gun, and another deputy who can be heard cursing at the suspect after he was shot, were not in their normal states of mind because of the elevated stress of apprehending the suspect, according to a Tulsa, Oklahoma, investigator.
Tulsa Police Sgt. Jim Clark, who has been brought in to review the case, said Tulsa County Reserve Deputy Robert Bates, 73, “inadvertently” shot Eric Courtney Harris after Harris — a possibly PCP-addled felon who had days prior sold methamphetamine to an undercover officer — ran from authorities after trying to sell an illegal handgun during an undercover sting.
As deputies tried to handcuff Harris, Bates arrived with a pepper spray gun in hand. He warned his fellow deputies he was going to use a Taser on the suspect, but instead, he fired a single gunshot — and immediately apologized, Clark said, citing a recently released video.
Clark attributed Bates’ actions to a phenomenon known as “slip and capture.” An example is when someone who drives a car with a manual transmission gets behind the wheel of a car with an automatic transmission. The driver will press her or his left foot down when stopping abruptly, even though there’s no clutch pedal, he said.

A 32-year-old man was attacked by a police dog in New Jersey last month and died shortly thereafter. Video has now surfaced showing the man being bitten by the canine while pinned to the ground by cops during an arrest.
Cops claim that Vineland, NJ resident Phillip G. White, who died in custody on the way to a hospital on March 31st after the K-9 attack, had been acting erratically, and when officers tried to subdue him, he allegedly tried to grab one of their guns. Then, cops say they pinned him and were forced to unleash the dog on him. The attorney representing the two officers who arrested White say the victim was on drugs at the time, and claim he may have died as a result.
Well, he said “sorry”.
A large number of people are going to have to take one for the team before this shit ends.

Plenty of people seem to believe the streets are being patrolled by cops looking for any and every excuse to kill someone.

Every one of these killings would never have happened had the perp not tried to run or attack the cop in the first place.
That doesn’t completely justify shooting them, but it does mean the dead perp contributed to his own death when he would have been just fine if he hadn’t (other than, maybe, facing whatever charges he was being arrested or stopped for for in the first place).
So if you get stopped by a cop for something don’t be stupid, just cooperate and be polite and settle any differences of opinion in court at a later date.

I can relate to this. It’s like a Freudian Slip, right? An innocent enough little mistake. Maybe the cops can take this concept and run with it, like when two or three cops shoot an unarmed man 50 times. They can say that they “slipped” and thought they were on the gun range.

I find that hard to believe.
The myth of overcoming a tazer comes from very early versions of Tasers that operated primarily on the principle of overwhelming the sensory nervous system. With older models, it was possible for a person tweaking on speed, PCP, meth, sometimes coke, or even a person with an extremely high pain threshold to effectively resist the incapacitating effect of the Taser/stun gun.
The newest generation of Tasers/stun guns work on both the sensory AND the motor nerves, which is why a person hit by one tends to quickly “stop and drop,” since the nerves that control their motor skills are overwhelmed. The technical term is neuromuscular incapacitation, and the only way one could not suffer the effect would be to be already completely paralyzed via anesthetic. Since it would be impossible to move under such conditions, THERE IS NO WAY for any modern Taser to be defeated by drug use.

American Cops Just Killed More People in March than the UK Did in the Entire 20th Century
A new report by ThinkProgress.com unearthed disturbing figures when it came to the number of police-related deaths that occurred in America in the month of March alone.
Just last month, in the 31 days of March, police in the United States killed more people than the UK did in the entire 20th century. In fact, it was twice as many; police in the UK only killed 52 people during that 100 year period.
According to the report by ThinkProgess, in March alone, 111 people died during police encounters — 36 more than the previous month. As in the past, numerous incidents were spurred by violent threats from suspects, and two officers were shot in Ferguson during a peaceful protest. However, the deaths follow a national pattern: suspects were mostly people of color, mentally ill, or both.
This high number in March increased the average for police killings from every 8.5 hours, to nearly 1 police killing every 6.5 hours in the US.
These numbers are staggering and show a serious problem of the violent tendencies within the US policing apparatus.
Let’s look at our immediate neighbors to the north, Canada. The total number of citizens killed by law enforcement officers in the year 2014, was 14; that is 78 times fewer people than the US.
From 2010 through 2014, there were four fatal police shootings in England, which has a population of about 52 million. By contrast, Albuquerque, N.M., with a population 1 percent the size of England’s, had 26 fatal police shootings in that same time period.
China, whose population is 4 and 1/2 times the size of the United States, recorded 12 killings by law enforcement officers in 2014.
On average, US police kill people at a rate 70 times higher than any of the other first world countries as they “protect and serve” the American citizens.

It seems there is some possibility that the 73 year old “volunteer” deputy” was treating members of the Tulsa Sheriff dept to fishing trips and trips to the Bahamas.
