This seems no more farfetched than the (numerous) hetero ceremonies where the bride and groom borrow and spend $50,000 for a party before they even have a home to call their own.
Twice in the past decade I was invited to these “holy” events where the true “event” was how much the bride could spend to make herself feel important. One was nearly a $100,000 affair.
Both marriages are already over. The $50k marriage ended with both filing bankruptcy and living with parents in tiny POS apartments. The other one was paid for by the parents, so the kids got the party and the “holiness” without the debt. Bet that made it quite easier for them to throw in the towel as they didn’t have to ruin their own credit reports.
Marriage has become yet one more way for our government to control us. Contract we can’t go into, or out of, without paying the price at the altar of Justice and Government.
That we dare to call what marriage has become in this country “holy” is blasphemy. And I believed that to be true LONG before SCOTUS allowed gays into the line to be skimmed by our mommy/daddy/god government.

Although I agree that marriage is a dying institution due to what you described, and hence mocks it in effect, this has nothing to do with my complaint against “gay marriage”, the very notion of which is an affront to tradition and history on the one hand and logic and semantics on the other. It principally undermines the very concept of marriage itself.
Marriage is defined, until recently that is, as a union between a man and a woman. Thus, to say “gay marriage” is absurd, literally. When I was still on Facebook a couple years ago,I argued with a couple queers, claiming in effect that a new name must be invented since the appellation “gay marriage” violated Aristotelian logic. I suggested that we have a national contest to come up with a name for it. I offered the term “gayrriage”. Needless to say, I was howled down by the gay mob, called a bigot, threatened with violence, etc.. Yawn.
And thus I am now in the process of founding the social justice group “Christian Rabbis Against Faggot Totalitarianism” (CRAFT). What? Christian Rabbis? Well why the fuck not if gay marriage obtains?
By the way, if anyone thinks “gay marriage” is about civil rights or whatever, think again. Check out a few of the gay/lesbo/transwhatever “leaders”: frank Kameny, Martha Shelley (don’t look her up I beg you), Larry Kramer, arnie kantrowitz, Brenda Howard, Evan wolfson, Julie dorf, Alan Klein, Harvey fire stein, Sarah shulman, among dozens of others. Hmmm…I wonder if these folks have anything in common. Are they Amish?
Gay marriage is just the most recent TNT blast designed to undermine the foundations of Christian culture, what’s left of it. I can hardly wait for the next “civil rights” cause. Several states have repealed the 2nd AMENDMENT effectively. We can and should repeal an unConstitutional DECISION by the six obviously Constitutionally impaired & incompetent Black Robed Leftist tyrant perverts. If our state politicians won’t do it, we need to impeach, recall and fire them ASAP. .

My comment was more geared to Fundy Pastors who so often whine about gays destroying the “sanctity of marriage”. I think it’s an excuse to explain away the fact the “Christian marriages” basically have the identical divorce rates, and other issues mentioned in my post above, as “heathen” marriages.
