Whenever I get butt-hurt over the down votes, people almost unanimously advise me — “Voting doesn’t matter!” Many others say they never vote, or even pay attention to it.
We know for a fact that ‘flash’ manipulates votes. That also means other people can do it also.
So……… keep the voting function, or get rid of it?

You would be ineligible to vote if you are the recipient of any welfare program or medicaid.
You would have to answer 6 out of 10 questions about our government, current leaders names, etc.
You have to vote in person. If you’re too infirm to vote, you shouldn’t be making decisions.
No more of this fucking early voting or absentee ballots – exception for active duty military.
In local elections, raising property taxes, school levies on properties, etc, only property owners should be allowed to vote.

I think there would be fewer replies/comments without the thumbs, but only because seeing the positive/negative response seems to prompt some people to defend their agreement or disagreement. So, I can understand why Admin wants to have some way for readers to quickly register their approval/disapproval of a comment(er) or opinion.
As Admin, he can see how many people are actually looking and doesn’t need the votes to tell him how many are reading, but he knows that in order to draw a larger audience the bigger the shitfest the better. I personally find that even when I get irritated beyond belief at the mangy curs hanging around here, I can’t stop myself from checking in a couple times a day. I guess if the EMP knocks out all the towers around my hill place, I’ll just head into TEOTWAWKI without TBP, but otherwise, I’m hooked. I like the voting and especially appreciate the ability to down-vote a post. I don’t particularly enjoy being a feces-flinging monkey because most of the time I agree with the posts shared on the message boards and a thumbs down is sufficient if the issue isn’t worth going to war over.
Social media’s philosophy of “everyone gets a medal for participating” doesn’t lend itself to down-voting, which is disappointing. I suspect the number of users of social media would decline dramatically if “friends” and “followers” could disapprove of selfies, photographed lunches, macaroni art drawings by 3-year olds, or rainbow-overlaid profile pictures. Speaking of which, I tend to save my vitriol for those folks. And family obviously.

And for all you that question the thumbs up/thumbs down, here is what I have observed:
If you view TBP with another browser/computer, you are able to vote again. So, one on a phone, one on your tablet, one on your kindle, one on your laptop, etc., and that is just the easiest way.
If you clear your history/cookies and don’t actually log in, again, voting paradise.
You can vote without being actually “logged” in. I quit logging in a long time ago as I have to look to my upcoming court battle and make sure that I have the recent years without my “anti-government/conspiracy nut” comments.
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that hub’s driving drunk with daughter and no proof (as if his family whom watched him multiple times would testify for me, har!) would far pale in comparison to my beliefs that this country is fubar. I couldn’t take the risk of getting a judge/mediator with a brain/common sense/reality check, so I quit logging in and this is when I found the voting abnormalities.

re: my 19th amendment comment. It appeared to me that a disproportionate percentage of your troofers were women. So I was pointing out that if the franchise had remained limited to males, we would make our policy decisions based more upon logic – such as which countries to invade. I already suspect one or more of the women here of voting down almost every comment I make – even the most innocuous. I figured the 19th amendment comment would make the antipathy even more pronounced. It takes a highly intelligent and dispassionate woman to understand the error that was the 19th amendment.
