Whenever I get butt-hurt over the down votes, people almost unanimously advise me — “Voting doesn’t matter!” Many others say they never vote, or even pay attention to it.
We know for a fact that ‘flash’ manipulates votes. That also means other people can do it also.
So……… keep the voting function, or get rid of it?

I have no personal investment in the tree-house, but I find the votes useful in determining the prevalent current of ideas among the commentators. It’s always of interest to me to see what others think of my ideas, but it has no emotional impact if they’re rejected: it simply makes me reconsider my position, but not necessarily change it. I appreciate a forum that is as outspoken as this one, so I read everything that’s written, no matter by who. There are many gems written here and I appreciate them. I’ve learned of books I want to read, read ideas expressed that have set me to thinking and sometimes they’re items that aren’t appreciated by the majority or are largely ignored. But I like seeing the trend of thought, so I’m grateful that the voting will be kept.
So I get 14 thumbs up in well under an hour for taking a piss basically and dilligaf gets 15 thumbs down? The thumbsey game be rigged sports fans!

The ringmaster, Jim Quinn, has a better skill than most for picking relevant news articles and he’ s brilliant with his short introductions.
Many of Quinn’s major essays over the years have been masterpieces.
His 30 Block’s of Squalor series is the most readable, analytical, and sensible analysis I’ve read anywhere of what happens when government coddles minorities.
Also, the guest posters Quinn has allowed to publish has been high. Some of Stucky’s posts come to mind and there have been others.
TBP has some weaknesses but they’re not so bad as they were in years past. The quality of comments is below that on other similar sites. The coarseness of comments irks me but then, as I’ve written several times, I prefer wit over shit.
