I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU AND ME

25 YEARS AGO TODAY

 photo image_zpsooozs6hk.jpg

It was 25 years ago today on a rainy cold night on the day after Thanksgiving (we got a lower price for the reception – we were poor) when I married Danielle Romano at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Norristown. We’ve experienced good times and bad times, raised three fine young men, and are still happily married. She still looks as good as she did on our wedding day. Me not so much. I’m about 40 pounds heavier and sporting a lot less hair.

 photo cove2.jpg

We recently came across some pictures from 1989, the year before we got married. Here’s a Halloween party at Dani’s apartment. She lived there with her two best friends Kathy and Marybeth, and they remain best friends today as they all work together at Chap’s Tap. The cow is Marybeth.

Here’s a drunken group photo, also at their apartment on New Years Eve (they liked having parties). Dani and I are wearing the hats. Five of the people in the picture were in our wedding, later that year. Robmu1’s wife is on the far left, and Kathy is next to her. Look at those smiles and all that hair. We’re still smiling, but the guys no longer have that hair.

I look forward to the next 25 years and as we all gather at Dani’s sister’s house on Thanksgiving this week we’ll remember all the good times and our fathers who have passed in the last few years. Our wedding song was I Believe In You And Me by the Four Tops. It still applies today.

Congrats to you both. Similar to you, me and my better half are on year 23 and I have the extra 40 pounds and less hair. A good marriage is something to hold and protect. Peace.

Congratulations and best wishes to you two. You both wear the years well. At a family gathering last week, I suddenly realized that my generation are now the old folk in the room and the youth , yet to realize it , will one day be us…sobering I know.

Unfortunately for Nick, I have the extra weight and I won’t blame childbirth. Coinky Dentally, my son turned 22 yesterday, meaning we celebrated 23 years in September.

Nick still looks like this to me. Not hijacking your post, just agreeing that marrying the right person makes it all like it is supposed to be.

Beautiful song. We chose this and my best friend sang it… unfortunately, it has a LOT more verses than he sings here and I thought it was never going to end. Haha.

Congrats to you both… staying married for 25 years and raising 3 good eggs is way more significant than running a blog for a bunch of poo-throwing monkeys (though we sure appreciate it.)

Congrats guys. The best part of my life is my marriage, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that managed to do it right.

Also, obligatory “she’s too good for you,” and “she’s a saint.”

Happy anniversary!! This brought a tear to my eye, which is very hard to do. Just one observation: wtf were you thinking writing “the cow is Marybeth?!” Damn you!!

Being married to one’s best friend makes everything just right. You are obviously married to your best friend, JQ… and, I assume, she to hers.

Congrats, Admin! You’re a very fortunate man(I was going to say lucky, but it’s much more than luck”. Keeping a family together is hard work, work and sacrifice from both of you. But it’s worth it!

I’ve always said it should be a man’s goal to marry above himself in terms of grace and beauty. Well done and congratulations to you both.

It always gives me hope to see and read about others who are happily married after this length of time. I’m lucky – I married one of my best friends who still thinks I’m handsome after almost 20 years and 40 pounds. My hair has migrated from my head to my back and all she says is “bald is sexy”. She’s either a superb liar or still loves me. I’m gong with the latter….. a little self delusion never hurts eh? 🙂

Enjoy your time together and Happy Thanksgiving to my American neighbours.

Francis

Congratulations to you both for a life well-lived.

Thanks for sharing this milestone with us. I’ve always appreciated your willingness, as Master of TBP universe, to treat us all as part of a big crazy family (corny I know). Your transparency is refreshing.

You’re right, Avalon has hardly changed a bit. Weight doesn’t matter as much as long as you feel good. And losing one’s hair in this day and age just leaves you with more options; the Telly Savalas look or any multitude of hats, all the norm now.

Congrats on 25 years!

Congrats and many more happy anniversaries !! Admin, your beautiful bride is still a beautiful bride, you still look good sitting behind a table with your hat on. This is why the “For Better Or Worse” clause was inserted into the vows.

May You Always Be As Happy As You Are Today !

Congratulations Admin and Avalon. As I mention earlier Me and Mrs. Bostonbob were married 25 years ago this November 3rd. I have the good fortune to have married up and my best friend in life has helped raise a wonderful young man and woman. I took the day off and we bought her an anniversary band to celebrate. I got a new pair of running sneakers, we were both happy with the deal. My half Italian wife looks similar to Avalon. I look like the guy with the mustache at the bottom of the picture in the white hat or a bit like Maggie’s husband same 1970’s mustache to this day. Only 8 pounds over my marrying weight and still have a pretty full head of hair (runs in the family). We have had very similar lives, married the same year born and graduated from college within one year, kids born same/close years, lifelong spouses with the patience of Job, a healthy cynical view of life. I don’t know what the future brings for each of us, but I hope and pray for the best for you and your family on this wonderful day, Again congratulations to the both of you.

Bob.

Darknlovely is excited about the celebrated 25 years of a good marriage as there has not been a anniversary party in the hood in a very, very long time. The FSA would lose their funding if they tried doing things the proper way, the right way. She states it “gives me hope”, seems we heard that somewhere before.

Darknlovely- Change can start with one person, let it be you.

Sincerely, Bea

Congratulations Jim and Avalon! Long marriages are becoming a real rarity. They are essential to raising a happy, healthy, well adjusted family. Your children are so much better off with two loving and committed parents as it serves as the best example to them for selecting their own mates when the time comes.

Far too many men and women treat each other like like meat or samples at a grocery store food demonstration. We all see where that leads not only for individual families but for the nation as a whole.

My wife and I just celebrated 27 years. My advice to all young adults is to seek out a mate you respect and can work with and someone who will respect and work with you.
