My late grandfather, born 1899, joined the British army in 1914, finally left in 1946, senior nco, chest full of medals, would have hated the ‘new’ world he spent his life fighting for.

I dunno.

I joined cadets when I was in my early teens. Air cadets specifically. I lasted about two years. At the time Canada was beginning to kick around the idea of some pretty abusive gun control laws. As a teenager at the time I saw it as an affront to the culture I had grown up with. Even in my late teens I saw the contradiction in a desire to serve a state that was willing to arm me to fight others but did not trust me with said arms as a civilian. Such a state was not to be trusted in my mind so why would I serve it?

The military of most modern states is nothing more than a meat grinder that uses people for the oligarchy’s nefarious purposes and spits them out the other end when it is through with them.

I would serve till the day I die if our system resembled something like the Swiss model. The system as it stands is corrupt. I would encourage our young people to avoid it like the plague.

The beast will only die when we the people remove our consent. One of the first things we can do is to quit fighting for it.

About a year ago I got into an argument with a friend of a friend on FB about “combating racism”. So I asked him, since he was so gung-ho on “combating racism” what had he done personally. His response, in all seriousness, was that he was very active in “combating racism” because he had written a computer game about the issue. Really! That was one of the main impetuses for me to cut my FB friends down to a few remote close friends and interest groups who use FB as their primary form of communication, because the people here on TBP are much more interesting to converse with 🙂 I’d cut FB out altogether but I’m still interested in who died, who’s getting married, and when group meetings have been cancelled.

@overthecliff: Speak for yourself!

I wouldn’t call what we do here “fighting”, it’s more like a “sibling squabble”.

In the Miss Universe contest, some bimbo was asked about guns and she said I believe people should be able to defend themselves (clapping) but we need more gun control laws (gasps). I wish Steve Harvey had had the brains to then ask how, pepper spray or more gun free zone signs? She flunked the “got a brain to go with that face and figure” category and lost.

Funny, but I have a feeling that during this Fourth Turning you’ll get plenty of opportunity for fighting, very likely you’ll be fighting for your life!
