It has been a bloody year in Baltimore, that much everyone knows, but as The Economist shows, something changed dramatically after Freddie Gray’s death in April…
On November 14th the police department reported the city’s 300th homicide in 2015, a total not seen since 1999.
The surge in killings in the majority-black city of roughly 623,000 began after the death on April 19th of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who was fatally injured while in police custody. Since Mr Gray’s death the city has recorded 244 homicides, a 78% increase over the same period in 2014, representing more than 100 additional deaths.
Criminologists and city officials disagree as to the causes:
- Some say police have deliberately pulled back from poor, black neighbourhoods, a theory that the police disputes.
- Others blame an influx of drugs from pharmacies looted during the April riots.
- A third theory is that a decline in trust between the police and the policed has had deadly consequences: fewer residents talk to the police, which leads to fewer murders being solved, which – by lowering the odds of being caught – results in more murders.
Whatever the reason, the killing continues. Just hours after the 300th murder, police reported a shooting in the city’s Westport neighbourhood, the fourth homicide of the day. The total for the year now stands at 305.

What happened is all that Black Lives Matter stuff and the MSM and PTB giving tacit approval to it and justification for the lawless rioting has resulted in a popular surge among lower class -criminal class- Blacks in thinking their crimes are both justified and someone else’s fault.

“innocent and the righteous.” Someone coming at you with murderous intent is neither innocent nor righteous. The Church teaches it is not only your right to defend yourself and your duty to defend others, even unto his death. We shoot not to kill but rather to preserve innocent life, ours and others. If the aggressor is killed, this is not intended but still allowed.
The gun I bought is primarily for home-defense, even though we live in a very safe neighborhood, and our house is wired up with an alarm system. Still, I think it is my responsibility to have a weapon at home to protect my family from whatever threat may come down the street or through a window some night.

Democrats with their Great Society fantasy broke the American dream and now we all must pay the price for stupid liberal meddling into social affairs they clearly never understood.
While we aren’t dealing with millennia-old problems, we are in fact dealing with at least fourth or fifth generation entitlement, with fatherless families, SNAP payments, welfare, “free” medical care, and so on. Just enough government largesse to keep the inner city blacks on a leash, not enough (yet) to create revolution against it. And therefore the elites get their voting bloc, which is the intended outcome all along.
But the monster this created is ugly and difficult to control. I’ve read comments about the rioters in Ferguson, to the extent that any protest against “the man” (or the state) is a good thing and they must be our ally (I’m not sure who “our” is). Such a view is a sign of lack of attention to detail, immaturity and weakness of mind. Most of the rioters in Ferguson would sooner gut you groin to throat with a knife and then rape your wife and daughter as to look at you. Anyone who feels an alliance with the rioters in Ferguson is a fool.
This is a monster the government and effete urbanite elitists created. The hive is coming apart at the seems, and the only way to keep it together is harsher and harsher stability operations. Make no mistake about it. The Chicago Mayor knows all about the tactics in use in Chicago and approves of them. The firing of the chief of police was a sacrifice to the masses.
The lesson for us is that police departments are more and more using stability operations as a model or paradigm for their work, with the approval of those in charge. As these tactics want to work their way into the fabric of American society like a cancer, one goal will be to kill the cancer before it takes over the host. This battle will be gradual, fought initially on the fields of town hall meetings, boards, blogs, and so on. If the battles are lost there, it will expand, and if lost entirely, dystopia (and maybe insurgency) will come to the American countryside.
The wars for the inner city cannot be won. America is going broke and the largesse cannot continue forever. Sooner or later, the riots will expand. The more important thing will be what happens to the medium and smaller towns of America? Stability operations can lead to COIN if not successful (and couple this with Islamic terrorism and the influx from South of the border, and the potential for success seems bleak), and neither COIN nor stability operations is an acceptable model for this country.
Anon is correct, and the article limits itself to a few poor choices, as they are too politically correct to speak the truth or venture into an area of being called a racist.
It may be that all of the 3 causes listed contribute to the rising
murder rate. The only real cause, however, that is valid, is the
character of the people doing the murdering. And the people that
reside in the community which tolerate the crimes.
The character of the people may be shaped by the progressive policy
of forced dependency/payola for votes. Other groups take advantage of
poor-care free money also. Are those communities plagued by murder
and mayhem as well? Note: if 300 are killed, then how many are shot eg
injured, damaged by crime? That said, I for one, do not have a clue on how
to “fix it.” Or help. Therefore, as with any unsolvable mess, it is best to avoid
the area and distance oneself. The problem with Baltimore, at this point, is that
it is becoming a “no go zone.” Now what?

Philly finished with 279 murders in 2015, up 12.5% over 2014. It must be those gun toting white males Obama is so worried about. There were 2,300 assaults with a gun, 1,300 rapes, and 3,000 robberies with a gun. Black lives matter, except to other blacks.

OK, many feral incorrigible savages are loose killing people but that should be no problem with 200,000 Whites and about 400,000 Blacks to deal with the problem…oops Sorry, never mind: Baltimore is a Gun Free Killing Zone so there are about 600,000 murders to go.

That’s correct. WDM Bell, a Scottish elephant hunter, wrote a great deal about the blacks in primarily east Africa, now Kenya, in the very early 1900s.
He was a keen observer and fine author and wrote, among other observations, that one of the primary endeavors among the young blacks was raiding the territory of neighboring tribes in the hopes of catching and killing a person. Once another had been killed, they could than tattoo their right side for a male victim, and their left side for a female. Further, once a kill had been made, they were viewed as a man, could wear the ostrich feather, and could now demand favors from the unmarried girls.
His writings about primitive Africa and Africans give great background to the black of today. Viewed from that perspective, modern blacks are largely reverting back to that culture and behavior.
