It’s remarkable how well his stand-up routine…well, stands up…even all these years later.

I hope nobody comes out with some dirt like that he was married to a sheep. He was funny and not ‘shit in the chili’ funny.

Garry Shandling, the American comedian known for his stand up routines and hosting The Larry Sanders Show, has died suddenly, aged 66, after suffering a heart attack.
He was taken to a hospital in Los Angeles on Thursday after emergency services received a call from his home but died after being admitted, the entertainment website TMZ reported.
Confirmation of his death was lamented in a tweet by the actress Kathy Griffin, a friend of Shandling.
Sunday, my longtime friend Garry Shandling was here, making every1 laugh. I loved him. I’ll miss our talks the most. pic.twitter.com/Ud8AQXNBXN

Shandling had retweeted a photo himself with Griffin and Bob Odenkirk, star of Better Call Saul, last weekend.

He was said to have no known health problems and TMZ reported that his death had been caused by a “massive heart attack”.
The comic won numerous prizes – including two British Comedy Awards and a Bafta award – over his 40 year career, which entered a prolonged period of success when he launched Its Garry Shandling’s Show in 1986.
Garry Shandling was a very special comedian with a beautifully unpredictable mind. He even voluntarily offered jokes and ideas for Oscars.

The programme, screened by the cable channel Showtime, provided a platform for his trademark brand of nervous, self-deprecating humour that frequently poked fun at his supposedly awkward relationships with women. The style influenced a generation of comedians, including Ricky Gervais.
RIP the great Garry Shandling. Surely, one of the most influential comedians of a generation.

It was on full display in Garry Shandling’s Show 25th Anniversary Special – a parody of a similar type of programme presented by the late Johnny Carson, whose famous chat show Shandling sometimes guest presented.
Walking on to the set to applause, Shandling – who never married – quipped: “I haven’t had a standing ovation like that since the last time I made love.”
He added: “I’m still single. Twenty-five years, I’ve gone through 92 relationships. I broke up with my last girlfriend when I lied to impress her and it came back to haunt me. When that space shuttle landed and I wasn’t on it…..”
His greatest success was achieved with the Larry Sanders Show, which began broadcasting on America’s HBO channel in 1992, and earned him nominations for Emmy awards 18 times, finally winning in 1998.
In an early episode, screened during Bill Clinton’s first campaign for the American presidency, Shandling lampooned the ability of US politicians to survive sexual scandal and still run for office.
“The only reason I’m not running for president this year is that I’m afraid no woman would come forward to say she’s had sex with me,” he said. “I feel I would be doing one of those CNN interviews, looking into the camera saying, come on Susie, you know you did it with me. Say something.”
