Here are a few things that mankind has noticed over the years:

– It is more wrong to let passion rule when deciding on questions of justice.
– The reasoning that comes naturally is less apt to resolve matters than the reasoning that is a honed skill.
– That, (like any other human endeavor,) some men see themselves fit to study and dedicate their lives to it, and some don’t and won’t.
– That, (as is the case with medical practitioners,) it is normally preferable to seek the advice of a trained and dedicated practitioner than to attempt to treat yourself.
– That the law (once studied) is not a static creature and should continue to evolve and adapt.
– That, (given the above,) justice is not the result of an algorithm, nor is it one-size-fits-all.
– That fools are plentiful, abound with opinions, and produce shoddy work through careless practice (or none at all.)
– That a consistent reasoning, (which accounts for all consequences,) is superior in the long-run than one that pleases immediately.
– That the idea of a ‘leader’ is unattractive to the individual, at first… The duty of the ‘free’ is to choose one, wisely.
– That debate is the art of finding inconsistencies, not faults. A boxing-match ends where a brawl begins.

Have fun guys!

I can accept most of these and will only add my own clarifications to the following:

_______________
“– The reasoning that comes naturally is less apt to resolve matters than the reasoning that is a honed skill.”

OK, provided one’s “honed skills” are moral, just and true as opposed to relative, expedient and fatalistic.

_________________
“– That the law (once studied) is not a static creature and should continue to evolve and adapt.”

OK, as long as one acknowledges the spirit behind a given law as predicated on morality. By this very fact, one must recognize the spirit behind lawlessness as well. Because both are timeless.

____________________
“– That debate is the art of finding inconsistencies, not faults. A boxing-match ends where a brawl begins.”

I tend to believe “inconsistencies” ARE “faults” and this is how brawls beget the boundaries that allow eventual “boxing matches” to take place.

Just my two cents. What say you?

Well done, Unspecified. Your comments add to the debate.

I would add that of we knew the ‘honed skills’ to be moral and just, we’d have begged the question.

Also, I cannot tell what is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ very easily, but if a proponent of a position argues himself into the position he claims he opposes (or worse condition still) then it is not necessarily the man that is to be faulted but his argument, and this without need to reference ‘morality’.

Jim,

You keep quoting Bastiat like this and I’m going to have to start calling you a ‘radical’.

You are surely some kind of a leader, Administrator.

Just what kind?

Give us some more mindless ‘quotes’ memes.

You seem to have lots of questions but not many opinions. You are an answer in search of a fool.

Did that one take you long?

Can’t even get the type of device right. Oh well, not one for facts, I guess.

Well Adminiatrator, considering that Bastiat was a liberal… That he was in favor of a planned economy which looked at the consequences of an economic decision in terms of the whole picture (the candlestick-maker…)

Maybe you should let those ‘more honed’ handle the reading of economics or philosophy?

Someone I didn’t vote for?

Whatever relevancy does your commentary have, anyway?

Take pity on poor Dookie Admin. See he has plenty of experience in honing. He is an Anglo in Quebecistan and has anger issues from saying “Oui Messeiur” chaque jour to his Pequiste overlords.

Well, you’ve all taken the shotgun approach to hitting the target.

And still missed.

Even ganged-up you couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.

But you did have me swatting flies.

Kudos.

(I know, too many analogies and a foreign language. I guess that make me pompous.)

I’ll dumb it down next time and join the group.

How sad the man works days as a troll for government during day and clicks his evenings online as one as well. You might count it a victory that you persist but on this blog first Tards like you are mocked then they are ignored.

Then you stand back inglorious, wondering why folks here can’t be bothered wasting a bullet on your carapace.

Congrats Dookie! You can spread that on your toast this morning knowing that you are finally a success in a game that only you want to play. You are going to end up ignored by everyone.

I will be the first.

Rob, you have my profession wrong in SO many ways…

You describe yourself well, spending evenings online…

You seem to think bailiffs try to get people INTO trouble who aren’t there already?
You seem not to like bailiffs….
You seem to think of yourself as superior to bailiffs and to think they earn small salaries and work for the *EVIL* Government.

You seem to have had some negative encounters with bailiffs and other authorities.

Could it be that you are a deadbeat?

Rob, the way a shotgun works is many bullets. (Note: See line 4, second para. of your ‘retort’.)

Admin: If I’m a one-trick pony, why do you use the same ‘insults’ over and over? You caught one typo! Congrats! I’m surprised you have even THAT level of intelligence.

Administrator knows that there are those who read opposing views to his.

Administrator lives for those who do.

Administrator knows that many do not post. The silent majority. The prize.

Administrator, (like any other despot,) pays attention only to his minions.

Administrator knows that I will be taking away many of his readers if I continue to show the light of logic. It’s not my logic, I don’t own it nor is it my monopoly. Everyone can partake.

That scares Administrator, very much.

That is why Administrator makes his feckless attacks. I’ll give you a minute to look-up the definition of ‘feckless’, Administrator. I hate it when the adverse party is unarmed.

Quote: “You clearly fancy yourself an intellectual”

Retort: “It’s not my logic, I don’t own it nor is it my monopoly. Everyone can partake.” Reasoning, Administrator, not bashing.

But I already exposed this point, it’s logical and easy to understand.

I guess that’s me being pompous again…..

That’s the same “trick” as Admin used at 10:11, precisely?

Then he repeats a “quote” meme cherry-picked from a Liberal, while calling me a ‘liberal’ as if that were an insult?

“Reasoning, Administrator, not bashing.” But you know no other tactic…

This whole site is probably a GoDaddy hosting. I can’t see how it could be run by anyone with any level of intelligence.

But then, I’m pompous like that.

I gave my own thoughts, above, first post.

Administrator never even commented on them. Understandable, as he probably couldn’t understand them.

I’m sorry I feel this way about you, Administrator, but I feel more sorry for your friends and (!) relatives.
