After the hilarious Rachel Maddow face-plant on live television, with her scoop on President Trump’s 2005 taxes – all two pages of it – the big question in the news today is about who leaked it.
The worst punditry you will see on this question is coming from the people who say Trump couldn’t have leaked it himself because he wouldn’t leak it to a guy who has been his critic for many years.
What????
The very best way to leak a tax return that makes you look good is by giving it to your worst critics so they can self-immolate on live television. Which is what happened.

I have no evidence that the leaked tax returns came from the Trump camp. But the alternative sounds ridiculous to me. I think the alternative hypothesis looks like this:
Trump critic: “Hee-hee! I stole two pages of Trump’s tax returns from 2005 that makes him look good. Wait until I show the world!”
I realize it is hard for President Trump’s critics to accept the idea that he is three steps ahead of them, and not practicing his goose-stepping in the White House bowling alley late at night while tweeting. But in this specific case, are there really two possibilities for how Trump’s tax returns got leaked?
There is no evidence that Trump, or any other specific person or entity, leaked the document.
Until more is known, I think it would be a mistake to assume Trump did -or probably did- it, this is not productive speculation. Assuming Trump did it now will detract from anything against whomever did it if it becomes known it was a hacker or something in the future.
As for Maddow and Johnston, they were and are morons for making public returns that proved their positions about Trump wrong. Did they somehow think this was going to boost Anti-Trump sentiment, sentiment based on no or little taxes paid by Trump claims, when it show he paid well above average tax percentages?
And apparently much higher than Obama or Sanders.

Why all the excitement over a 12 year old return? A dozen years ago the Donald was hardly the hot topic of conversation in this country. I think he was into WWE and beauty pageants back then.
Trump’s Taj Mahal went belly up to the tune of 1.8 BILLION in 2004 which would have been on his 2005 return and after reorganizing, his company struggled between 2005-2009 and Trump Entertainment Resorts went under in yet another huge bankruptcy.
Why all the excitement ?
This is at least the 3rd reference to something that Maddow did, but it always links to Colbert making fun of her. I guess I need to go to you tube and watch the real thing to understand the joke.
Or you could just ignore it as the nothingburger it really is.
I actually hope it was Trump who leaked it through some surrogate to the lamest and tamest democrat establishment flunky of all. It puts a lot of pressure on anymore tax releasing talk for fear of looking like the asshole MadCow is. Forget fighting fair. This is a shit storm. Do what you have to do to win.
I just wish MadCow would grow a pair…..of tits (I’ll bet he already has gonads).
My first thought was that Trump leaked it. If one was trying to damage Trump, you surely wouldn’t cherry pick a year in which he paid nearly $40M in federal tax. It does prove that Maddow is a fucking idiot, but we already knew that.

Isn’t it a felony to “publish” someone else’s tax return?
I don’t know if it’s a felony, West, but it is the kind of thing that would get Maddow fired and shunned for life in any sane society.
