Spam bots have been hammering the crap out TBP for a bit. Y’all don’t see them because we have a filter running that weeds them out pretty well, but it costs the server performance (i.e. slows everything down) dealing with all the spam which were coming in this morning at a rate of about 10-20 per minute.
So I put a recaptcha thing on the comment form as an experiment. It’s google’s new “invisible” recaptcha which for most people shouldn’t even make you click anything or look at stupid pictures and tell google what you think they are pictures of. But if their code can’t figure out if your browser belongs to a person or a bot, then it will show you that stuff.
So far, from my point of view, it’s working great. Since I put in the recaptcha there have been zero spam comments hitting the site and stealing server performance. But if it is excessively burdensome then I can look for other ways to mitigate the spam. Please comment below if the recaptcha on comments sucks too much.
check, check, 123.
let’s get this party started.
so,
I hit my back button twice to escape the comments, and I did see a momentary google recaptcha message flash on the screen.
oops, and now I have to pick out some gifs from a list to prove I am not a bot.
I guess it is working,
pages are loading faster than yesterday.
Thanks Admin.
No Prob
I’ll go for it!
Grateful for the site. If it’s beneficial to you don’t mind jumping through a hoop.
” …….. all the spam which were coming in this morning at a rate of about 10-20 per minute.”
Is this normal for most websites or are you being deliberately targeted?
Is it just more spambots in operation across the board or some kind of spambot based DOS attack?
Pretty normal for a well-trafficked WordPress site with no comment anti-spam measures. The longer you’ve been around, the more bots you attract. TBP has pretty good traffic and has been here for a while, so I’d guess it’s just normal interweb lice.
Thank you for all you do. Folks like you are pivotal in all this – with no credit where credit is due.
Seems to be working fine. No captcha images for me so far. 🙂
Not working good, it froze up when I tried to comment on Rockyfeller’s death.
Even Admin had to prove himself to comment.
I guess the bar is set pretty low if Admin can hurdle it.
BM
Lemme see…
Fuck Israel!
edit: works great! I didn’t see any captcha at all (but the ADF is still after me).
I haven’t had to jump through any new hoops, and I’m not even signed in on this computer.
I got the image request. Picking trees but I don’t mind it. If it makes life easier and site runs smoother for TMWNN then small price to pay.
I made $1300 on the internet with this one little trick. Go to fatchickswithpartyhats.com to learn more.
But seriously I think we can put up with a captcha if needed. Good Work MWNK
too skinny 4 me–
I don’t see anything different from any other day. I still don’t see Stucky, maybe we could send Admin. money to buy him a (Hot Spot device).
TMWNN is the first jooish guy I have ever seen that says (Y’all). Could be a transplanted southerner.
i bet stucky is back online & just lurking-
let’s all say the rudest thing possible and trigger him–
if you’re out there stuck,i’m trying to look out for you-
you mentioned awhile back your proclivity for animal porn-i have a swamp at the back of my property-a couple of days ago a pair of hawks were going at it but i couldn’t get my camera out in time-the guy finished as fast as a teenager getting his 1st piece–
Anything to help keep you going. As long as it doesn’t keep asking. Are you really, REALLY a real person….
Dude, you are seriously bad ass. To the MwNN, “spammer” is the new n-word:

MWKN: Thank You, for all you do.
TMWNN- Spoke too soon, just had to verify by hoop jumping on a comment. Not a big deal to do.
Seems ok
Seems like everything is fine.
So far, so good….and thank you for all you guys do. This is becoming a “check several times a day” site for me 😉
So, is this a new problem with spam comments? Just wondering if the share bar is giving FB, etc. a window into TBP that didn’t exist before.
Well, I think I might have figured out how to configure uMatrix to allow my comments to post, while still blocking that cancer of the Internet known as Facebook. Of course, if this comment vanishes as did my previous attempts, you’ll never know it. I don’t mind completing a captcha when it means that I can’t be tracked – even here.
KEEP CALM
and
BLAME THE RUSSIANS
Dammit! Just when I figured out how to up my SPAMMING game!
fine with me
OK so far
