Had to do the old “turn your head and cough” routine yesterday. I always go in two weeks early to have blood drawn then I can talk about the results with my doc instead of read them off a card. Every year my good cholesterol increases and my bad cholesterol decreases. I NEVER do shit to try and improve these numbers except for not eating phast phood or any prepared foods but I’ve been doing that for over a decade anyway. The rest of my vitals either remain the same or improve slightly.

I turned 50 last year so that means I get a digital prostate exam annually now. I think I’ve figured out why men over 50 have fewer and fewer physicals. I was thinking of screaming for the doctor to pull my hair during the exam right up until he achieved penetration and then I lost all train of thought. Decades ago when I was looking to find a regular doc my primary concern was finger size in anticipation of this particular exam. His fingers looked small enough before and even after the exam but it felt anything but small! Afterward I’m thinking a physical every two or three years should be plenty. I don’t want to live forever or even for three more decades anyway.

The only bad news is that he suspects some severe muscle cramps I’m experiencing may be an atypical presentation of Multiple Sclerosis. The cramps are so severe I’m actually tearing muscles which results in bleeding under the skin. It’s reminiscent of a charlie horse times 1000 or so and they last many minutes affecting my arms, legs, hands and feet. If this shit keeps up I won’t make it another decade.

Still, I’m glad I’m not a “Real ‘Murican” as pictured above.

MS is linked to Vitamin D deficiency, have your blood work check the level. And muscle cramps can be potassium or magnesium, have those checked too. I had charlie horses at night until I started taking a mineral supplement.

Kad,
Right on with the Magnesium. I run and at 55 after, three back operations I am not nearly as flexible as in my youth. I take a product called Calm, powder added to water, easy to take and it tastes pretty good. Widely available on line and in vitamin stores. Great for preventing night time cramps, especially in the feet and legs. I spent 5 hours under a deck on my knees last Monday in the cold. some tightness, but no major cramps. Off to my Sunday run, my best to everyone, even BB. I will say a prayer for you at Mass.
Bob.

Indecent,
I was all set to ask you a question about the prostrate exam & then you got serious with the MS.
Good luck with that.A boy I grew up with came down with MS.He refuses all alternative treatments but gets progressively worse so if I were you I’d read what the other guys posted and do a lot of research on your own.
Being the jerk I am,I’m gonna go ahead & ask you about the prostrate exam. When you were feeling all that pain, did he have one hand or two on your shoulders?

Magnesium for cramps. Hope it is not MS. Good luck.

I/S -Put some magnesium sulphate /Epsom Salts in a hot tub of water and soak for a while. Do that several times a week.

Most Americans are magnesium deficient.

The HFCS in those Big Gulps is part of the fake food ingredient list that’s causing the diabesity epidemic. The use of industrial oils like soy, corn, cottonseed and canola, coupled with the hybrid dwarf wheat and GMO corn is poisoning people who are devoted to the Standard American Diet.

I think it’s deliberate. The assault on healthy diet items such as saturated fats, iodine, and vitamin supplements has become obvious recently.

It’s devilishly hard to avoid the crap. Went to pick up some fresh Italian sausages in the supermarket, and read the label: HFCS in the god-damn sausages. Urgh.

True, CB. Seems that shit is in all kinds of foods. It makes you look for prepared foods with sugar instead of HFCS, though sugar should be avoided too. I started cutting that stuff out in about 2010. I cook for myself and my family from scratch now.

Before I did that, I could go along with my wife’s restaurant dates because she enjoys Bonefish Grill and a few others. Now, I can’t manage their food, because it’s loaded with fake fats like “vegetable oil” and the sauces are all sweet. The fryers in a restaurant put off the smell of those industrial oils they use for frying. I’ll only tag along to be there for her when it’s a celebration, and I don’t eat much of anything.

Those oils are really bad. They’re fit only for soapmaking and other industrial uses, not as food. I use fresh lard, butter, coconut and palm oil and beef tallow in my cooking, and my health has improved a lot. Being a “foodie” costs roughly twice in food costs and travel to buy from farms, but it keeps me from being a constant patient of the medical industry.

Ed,you nailed it as to why Americans have such an unhealthy diet. It’s not a conspiracy as some will say-just much less expensive to produce adulterated food, along w/our sedentary lifestyle, and you have modern American man.

Indent Service ,I was going to make a smart ass remark about getting you head examined but Multiple Sclerosis is nothing to laugh about.Go get a complete examination plus major blood work done. The doctors will then have a good idea of what’s going on.

I have never seen severe muscle cramps from multiple sclerosis, but it’s possible. There are many other possible causes.

As far as a prostate exam goes, it’s questionable as to its worth. The treatment of prostate cancer can be worse then the disease itself.

The photo above is probably the reason why spy agencies have become so obviously incompetent. Think about it.
1. They now are having to hire millennials, whom have actually never physically done anything, and most likely have grown up on Doom as their reference for real conflict in the world.
2. The photo above was either taken from a satellite orbiting the earth, or a helicopter at least. If you were an analyst at the CIA, and these were the bulk of images you were seeing from space, and supposed to be analyzing, you would be crying out for the promise that CIA gave of “the preeminent spy agency in the world”. You clearly did not realize what you would be spying on…and we wonder why the old guys at CIA, NSA etc. are trying to bring back the cold war. I suspect it is out of sheer boredom….just sayin.
