THIS DAY IN HISTORY – President Bush announces military action in Afghanistan – 2001

Via History.com

On this day in 2001, less than a month after al-Qaida terrorists flew commercial jets into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, President George W. Bush announces that American troops are on the offensive in Afghanistan. The goal of Operation Enduring Freedom, as the mission was dubbed, was to stamp out Afghanistan’s Islamic fundamentalist Taliban regime, which had aided and abetted al-Qaida and its leader, Osama bin Laden, a Saudi national who lived in the Afghan hills and urged his followers to kill Americans.

In a televised address that evening, Bush informed the American public that “carefully targeted actions” were being carried out to crush the military capability of al-Qaida and the Taliban, with help from British, Canadian, Australian, German and French troops. An additional 40 nations around the world provided intelligence, as well as bases from which the operations were conducted.

Bush touted the multinational effort as proof that America, in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, was “supported by the collective will of the world.” He also warned that the war in Afghanistan would likely be only the first front in a long struggle against terrorism. He vowed to continue to take what he called the “war on terror” to those countries that sponsored, harbored or trained terrorists.

In case you thought it actually had ANYTHING to do with protecting America, protecting our freedoms, freeing the Afghan people, etc.

And the Patriot Act is all you need to know to understand that GOVERNMENT DOES NOT PROTECT OUR FREEDOMS and neither does the military. The enemies of freedom and liberty are NOT 10,000 miles away living in the Middle East. They infest our national and state capitals and local city halls and county commission offices.

When I got back from Bosnia one of the “new guys” at my unit was an E-5 that just came from the 10th Mtn Div.

Eventually told me when they flew in to Uzbekistan, they came off the plane in full-battle-rattle, locked-n-loaded, and met a few CIA guys that told them it was not only secure, but they’d been there for 6 months getting th base ready for them.

6 Trillion pissed away between Afghanistan and Iraq among other shit holes around the world and what have we got as a nation to show for it ? Financially and morally bankrupt nation thousands of dead good young men and women , many more injured and scarred for life a 1% elite wealthy group controlling and rolling in wealth like pigs in there own shit and really great HERION on our streets . The HERION is the best one considering we spent billons to eradicate the production in a country that supply’s 80% of the worlds illegal HERION . HERION production is up 20% in Afghanistan .
What other Great things have we as a nation accomplished in the last 50 years , oh yes we have destroyed the industrial backbone of the nation wiped out the middle class tax base and now get to watch our infrustructure crumble on a flat screen tv made in China eating snacks processed in China by North Korean slave labor while getting sick and broke physically mentally and financially . The American Dream is now a Nightmare
