I retired to Thailand about 10 years ago and have to apply for a new retirement visa each year. This requires you to be over 50 years old, have a minimum of 25,000 US in a Thai bank (and pay tax on the interest) or get an income statement from the US embassy stating my annual income is about the same. In addition I have to report my address to immigration every 90 days. If you overstay your visa and they catch you you are arrested, fined and deported. What am I entitled to from the Thai government? Nothing! They let me live here if I can support myself. What I get is to live a high quality, low stress life with great medical care I can afford to pay cash for and enjoy the wonderful Thai people, great food and lovely ladies!! I have never regretted a single day here. The US needs to adopt the same policy.
