FBI crime stats for the entire nation are nearly identical (just so someone doesn’t think this is just an NYC problem – or just this bad there). And the census generally puts the population of blacks around 13-16%. What is interesting is that the percentage of blacks in the population has nearly always been at this level. My wife saw a show in which they asked folks what they thought the population of blacks was in the US and their results were far closer to 45-50%. Amazing how perception can be altered by the news media, TV, commercials, movies, etc. Of course here in Atlanta, you would think it was closer to 99% as nearly EVERY crime story involves a black suspect(s).
