I Suspect That Most People Won’t Want to Invest Time In This

It is my sincere desire to provide readers of this site with the best unbiased information available, and a forum where it can be discussed openly, as our Founders intended. But it is not easy nor inexpensive to do so, especially when those who wish to prevent us from making the truth known, attack us without mercy on all fronts on a daily basis. So each time you visit the site, I would ask that you consider the value that you receive and have received from The Burning Platform and the community of which you are a vital part. I can't do it all alone, and I need your help and support to keep it alive. Please consider contributing an amount commensurate to the value that you receive from this site and community, or even by becoming a sustaining supporter through periodic contributions. I thought that I might want to open the discussion with some ideas of my own but in the end, I am more interested in what y’all see in these two guys shooting the shit. I will say that they seem to come at the discussion from two opposing directions and yet there is no point at which either of them call the other a moron.

It’s a little difficult to watch Brand’s egotistical mannerisms, but he is smart as a whip and relevant, which is what you want to get Peterson to offer up his incredible insights (inferred from research evidence) so that what we are seeing unveiled is truth.

Here are a few things I picked up that I recall right now, but there is so much more:

Don’t recommend change that if it fails you do not suffer for it.

Inequality has been a condition of human societies since forever and is not a result of any political structure.

The left is concerned with generosity and the right is concerned with usefulness. The two must be melded together, making politics rather absurd.

Peterson want to offer more benefits to you than he receives and sees that as a benefit to himself simply because so often you will respond to that attitude in kind.

Both sexes need to develop “masculinity.” For mothers they ought to do the least for their children as possible within reason. The alternate is the “devouring mother” whose ideal is for her children to never leave her which cripples the child.

Many thanks Hollywood and Admin for posting this. I will watch it again and offer it to other people with whom I have useful conversations. The posting is both useful and generous.

I minimize it to a new window and let it play while I surf and work. I am watching it and may finish it over the next week.

Originally, I thought Brand was an uninteresting, spastic cliche. However, he made some anti-establishment comments last year that were interesting. More recently, I’ve had a few people tell me Brand is very smart; including a few recovering opiate addicts who read his book about addiction that was published last fall.

Twelve minutes in now and they are discussing self-conceptualization. Now linguistic controversies, political scandals, human resource departments, neutral nouns, and freedom of speech…

Which reminds me of breakfast club this morning: One white guy asked another white guy if he had seen the movie “Black Panther”. He said “no”. Then, in a vain attempt to be ironic, I commented I didn’t think white people were allowed to go until next weekend. When the original asker said he thought that comment was racist, I told him his assessment was an attempt to inhibit free speech. We laughed. Still, I knew he was serious. Even in jest, don’t be fooled by the orthodoxies of the messengers.

Prof Pangloss had an irritating habit of hitting a particularly interesting tangential observation and cutting it short with a -‘we’ll talk more about that next time’.

In true university prof fashion, Peterson keeps to the same practice. Except his are just so many tangents looking for a main theme. Seriously, you have to work hard to fill in the gaps. GGMarquez said he wrote his novel One Hundred Years of Solitude with the intention of making the reader work at filling in the blanks he left everywhere in the story. If your in college now, this is not a new exercise but it can wear a working person down to get such a mental workout. As for Brand, I watched him on that morning show a few years back and his cutesy style got old real fast, I don’t give a fuck how smart he says he is.

Oh, I’ve engaged in intellectual contests before but I was in college back then and it seemed meaningful. Such exercises are similar to jacking off with your friend to see who comes first. That is what I think this whole video will be like if I bothered to watch it, which I won’t.

EC, it wasn’t quite that bad – or that good, depending upon whether you like jacking off with another dude.

One line, one freaking image and Bigfoot the snowflake reaches for his inhaler.
I think Littlefoot would faint dead away if he ever read Stucky’s horsey article.

Dear Full,

Thanks so much for the video. It is now a treasured memory much like your posts here. Have you been able to sustain your interest in jacking off all through your life? A hobby perhaps. Would you care to share some of your proven techniques, say like putting that Sally Field’s poster on your ceiling? Do you imagine what it “will be like” to fuck a girl someday, should you bother to try that, which you won’t?

Best,

Littlefoot (that’s what my wife calls my dick!)

Neither of those guys in the video are jacking off. There are plenty, plenty of thoughtful observations bringing references to classic literature and scientific metrics that you don’t need to work at to “fill in the blanks.” What is evident in your comment is exactly expressed by yourself as you came all over the page as I read it to my regret. I’d rather have clicked on “We say goodbye to Sally Fields.”

Biggie, I regret that you don’t appreciate my visuals. I liked the Peterson vid that my buddy posted last week, it was an interview with the British woman. I only declined to watch this one because I don’t like Brand, I’d rather click on Sally Fields than watch him.

Now, just because I said he covers a lot of shit, I do not mean he is guilty of divagation (go back and read the part where I compared him to Old Pangloss, who I said would go into particularly interesting asides) but he does wander in a kind of let’s go this way, oops, that way. If I didn’t like him, I would say he’s an over-explainer.

Let me just resort to a Panglossian excuse –> maybe you don’t understand what I mean but I understand what I mean.

Peterson is focused. Brand is very deft with words, but his entire viewpoint starts and ends with “capitalism and corporations are bad”. That he can’t seem to shake the idea that socialism would be an improvement suggests he’s impervious to evidence. On grounds of efficacy alone, Peterson should have argued with him more strenuously on that, defeated him even, but JP is reluctant to be categorized as being on the right, lest his cool factor drop a bit.

I had to listen so the man bun would not distract me. After the first oh, 10 minutes or so it caught my attention and held it. I can’t sit still for something like that, I have to keep busy while I listen. I got through about half before I needed to relax for while. Long day.

After I quit thinking about Monty Python..(I really do have a problem with focusing) I found it to be more than just intellectual masturbation. I will finish it.

The only way to conquer pain you are carrying around from your past is to turn around and face it.

Mary, I put my pain from the past, assuming it’s an emotional pain, into a frame like a painting, then I changed the image into something so mundane and irrelevant that when my mind wanders to that place, all I see is the other thing I put there.

e.g. There was [the image of] a woman there in that place, I tried to replace her image with that of a porky woman that YoBo posted. It worked poorly. Then I replaced the image [of the woman] with a manhole cover, I have no feelings either for or against a manhole cover.

It’s about forgiveness, which is hard if you are a Christian. I’m not sure one can forgive at all, if they are not. I couldn’t have, anyway.

Jordon Peterson is a breath of fresh air in the smog that passes for intellectual thought and the free expression of ideas in the public and academic arenas today . Typically his views expressed challenge you to think for yourself a novel idea these days of common core !
