The Death of Sportsball

Guest Post by The Zman

Down at the Hater’s Ball, we were joking around at the banquet about the things you stop enjoying when you become race aware. Pop culture is an obvious one, given the absurd levels of anti-white vitriol we see on TV and in movies. I mentioned that sports stop being fun, as you spend all your time noticing the propaganda and lose track of the games. I’m not the first guy to notice this. At Mencken last year, I was hanging out with a couple of people who despised sportsball because of the endless racial agitation in it.

Back in Lagos, I’m enjoying my free evenings by watching some television and catching up on some movies. I happened to catch about five minutes of a basketball game. It was Cleveland versus Toronto. The announcers were carrying on like LeBron James had just cured cancer, whenever he put the ball in the hoop. Some famous black guy was on the sidelines doing back flips for some reason. It was like watching a bizarre African circus, but the stands were packed with whites. I lasted about five minutes and turned it off.

The NBA has always been an odd business. The people who own the teams are the types who do business from card tables and folding chairs. They keep a bug-out bag ready and leave their car idling in the parking lot, just in case. The owners are all Jewish. The players are all black. The fans are all white. The NBA is pretty much a long running advertisement for upside down world, where blacks are the elite and whites are at the bottom. It is, in many respects, a metaphor for where we are as a society in the current age.

Anyway, it got me wondering how these sportsball leagues remain in business, despite their hostility toward their customers. Going to sporting events is a civic nationalist sort of thing, if you think about it. It is the last place we have where people from the community can meet in public and enjoy something together. The downtown shopping area is dead. Malls are dying off. The movie theater has been replaced by the home theater system. A sportsball game is one of the last public gathering places we have now.

As with so much of our society, the sportsball model assumes the sorts of social arrangements that come with an 80% white society, where people trust one another and take pride in their place. You have an emotional attachment to the local teams, because they represent local pride, even if the players are mercenaries. In a world where all relationships are transactional and one place is as good as another, what’s the point of following the local team? That seems to be showing up in surveys like this about the NBA.

Another tell that sportsball is headed for a bad time is what is happening with college sports. There, fan loyalty has the added hook of attendance. Alabama football not only plays on state loyalty, they have tens of thousands of graduates who can show their pride by supporting the football team. That means donations. Talk to the people who fund raise for athletic departments and they will tell you that the younger graduates are far less willing to give than previous generations. The “culture of giving” is not there with millennials.

It’s not just the changing demographics of America, it is the berserk impulse by the people running the sportsball leagues to destroy what makes sports appealing. Here’s a story about how NASCAR is trying to grovel at the alter of multiculturalism. I can guarantee you that not a single racing fan in the South has said to his buddy, “You know what would make NASCAR perfect? More blacks.” Sports used to be an escape and a celebration. Today, even NASCAR is a sermon and warning. How is that sustainable?

The funny thing is the sportsball leagues appear to understand that their model depends on fooling whitey about their intentions. I went to opening day for the Lagos baseball team and the pre-game ceremonies would have made Leni Riefenstahl blush. I enjoy some flag waving still, but I was offended by the volume and intensity of it. There were calls to hero worship the military, the cops, some civic group they trotted out. I went to see a baseball game and instead I got a Orwellian rally to celebrate the great leader and his works.

The reason they lay it on so thick is they feel they have to. They say flag waving is the last refuge of a scoundrel, so a sport worried about its appeal will resort to claiming it is your patriotic duty to love baseball. Looking around at the crowd that day, I saw very few non-white faces. It was all white families and white business people skipping out from work. Baltimore is a 70% black city that has to import its sports fans. When America is 70% non-white, from where will they import their fans then? Will it matter?

Given what’s happened with the NFL ratings the last few years and the drop in live attendance for all sports, sportsball is in for a rough time. Professional sportsball is not the same business as selling cheap junk from China. For sportsball to work, there has to be an emotional bond between customer and team. That means the fan has to trust the owners of the team are on their side. In our deracinated, low-trust society, that can’t happen. Therefore, it is hard to see how the sportsball model holds up much longer.

Amen! Who the hell cares about seeing these people (most of whom have been feted over since middle school) run up and down a field and engage in tribal ballet after every play?

Why are whites (in large part) so damn gullible?

About the only sport I watch is Major League baseball, and the crowds are noticeably sparse this year.

Correct….Traveling this A.M., I was listening to Boston sports station WEEI and they mentioned that very same thing.

However, it could have been due to more of that GloBULL Warming with the coldest April since 1895.

I don’t know whether to turn on the A/C or the heat.

21st century sports and entertainment are just an extrapolation of the 19th century minstrels shows. The majority of blacks that achieve any modicum of success do so by entertaining others. Drs. Carson and Sowell and others are the exception rather than the norm. It’s unfortunate but it is what it is.

As Rupert Murdoch said so well years ago, “Sports are tribal”. He understood that shared fandom was one of the last aspects of glue holding modern society together. That’s why Sky and Fox were so willing to spend a fortune on broadcasting rights over the years. This willingness is changing rapidly, given “cord-cutting” etc., therefore the sports business model is in flux, especially in the US.

Another issue is international appeal. The NBA is best positioned – on my recent trip to Asia and Japan, English-speaking kids chatted my ear off about basketball. Most young Asians are appalled by American football and don’t understand baseball (except in Japan and Korea). The NFL may well be a flat-out “short sale”, as Michael Lewis (Moneyball) said recently.

As American tribal bonding slowly erodes, sports fandom itself will erode and transform. College sports will be impacted last of all, because your affection for your university dies hard. But pro sports will suffer a lot, because African-American celebrity-mercenary millionaires lecturing the fans about social justice will test the patience of older fans, while millennials, outside of fantasy-league participants, already are indifferent to “sportsball”, given lower testosterone levels.

An interesting question for my fellow TBPers: which franchise would you choose if you could buy stock in it (based on today’s prices) for percentage price appreciation and dividend cash flow (total return) over the next 20 years?:

a) Houston Texans NFL (roughly $2B)
b) Houston Astros (roughly $1.5B)
c) Houston Rockets (roughly $2B)
d) Houston Dynamo MLS soccer franchise (roughly $300mm)

I quit watching all communist sports when I came to understand the owners of the teams screw the people that live in the venue to build their gladiatorial coliseums. This goes for the NFL, NBA and MLB. I also lump collegiate sports in this category.

Funny, Golf and Tennis tournaments are still mostly played on privately owned land for the most part. If you will notice, those sports do not have coliseum raving mad spectators. Why? Because those sports highlight the prowess of the individual. When was the last time you had a fan fight over Jack Nickolas and Arnold Palmer? There is no I in team. But really does the I need a team to be outstanding? Hell no.

Please understand, I do not disparage team work. There have been many fine examples of excellent team work in many sports. Jai Alai requires intricate team work.

I guess my best example of team work in the NFL would be Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. a perfect match in that sport. To bad the NFL went from being responsible to being in support of enslaving people.

I quit watching ‘sports ball’ after the Montreal Canadians played the Russians, when was that..
1976 maybe? I was 7.
I have never understood the fascination with grown men chasing a ball .
Although, watching golf when you are hung over and it is -40 outside, nice green golf course on TV with announcers that whisper, I have done that maybe 5 or 6 times before I stopped watching TV in 1998.
Go outside, the big blue room is really nice!

I’m getting sick of every commercial I see ( I only watch about an hour of TV a day) has a black and white couple, especially the mattress commercials. I stopped watching grown men chasing a ball around at age 13.

Agreed! If it wasn’t for my wife I’d have cut the cable and TV years ago. At least 30% of commercials now have some sort of interracial component.

I’m sitting on the couch watching some show with her and a commercial comes on for some new type of potato chip showing a smokin hot blond, white babe carting around a couple of young mulatto kids! I’m like, what the Eff are they trying to prove?? That’s a pure lie. It’s not the norm. I’m sorry. Hot blonds don’t marry kneegrows. It’s blatant propaganda to desensitize people to the idea.

Hansickle, I feel your pain. El doggie said that you should not have to watch her shows, you should change the channel to the 3 stooges or a car repair program. I am not kidding, the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Take the remote, change the channel, send her on a beer run, she’ll love the new you. Your welcome!

If she objects to your choice of shows, tell her she is unwilling to compromise and therefore you are cutting the cable in the interest of peace, peace is the prize. If you have any questions, I’m here for you, bro.

I’ve seen that. However, smoking hot blondes do fuck kneegrows. Why? Because the current crop of white men are so emasculated as to be not preferable stock. Never mind the kneegrow will be dead in a few years or in prison. White women are so f’n stupid as to think that kneegrows will provide protection for their offspring. White women are now experiencing the same crap that black women did. The big difference? White women are trophy wives. If a white woman decides to say fuck you nigger, they die. Point of reference, O.J.

Nowadays the white woman like to display their little trophies; however, the mulatto children tend to be rather dull, unlike in the day 200 years ago when the male was white and the female black. Back then when the offspring were 7/8 white they were considered white by law in many states, and were normal except no one liked to talk about it. The “single-drop” laws didn’t come along until the 20th century with the demise of the old folk who could remember who their ancestors were. It remains to be seen if the current crop gets “watered-down” and gets any smarter. Based on what I see, today’s mixed offspring gravitate to the culture of the man’s side of the family, which doesn’t bode very well.

Screw watching it as if it’s special. Tax payers subsidized the wages of the players by building the stadiums with tax money. NFL as a Tex exempt. Come on, it is about the money period. Stop watching. See what happens. But most will watch and welcome the diversion from the rough and tumble times of life.

I no longer have cable, therefore, my subsidy of ballplayers has declined considerably. It’s outrageous that these fools even have a hand in your pocket like the government.

No cable now. Only internets. At least the nfl irritated me enough to kill cable and the bill as well. And the time vampire that is pro sports. I even stopped watching hockey. Once you fall out of the sports habit you really dont miss it.

Let’s hope the dissatisfaction spreads to television “entertainment”. I, for one am tired of having miscegenation and “alternative lifestyles” promoted, not only in television programs, but also in ads. I gave up watching just about any network television decades ago. Yes, this also includes a lot of the crap spewed on PBS…which my taxpayer dollars are paying for…

I have lost interest in all “sports”, because they’re all fixed. I used to think college sports might be real, then I watched this year’s March madness basketball tournament. March 24, Michigan defeats Florida State by 4 points. The FSU coach lets the last 11 seconds of the game run out. No fouls to stop the clock. What was the line on this “game”? Michigan by 4.5 points. Had Michigan made one free throw, they would have covered the spread

Pauncho, you can write off the FSU loss to “the fix being in” if you choose, but being a follower of ACC basketball and FSU, I will continue to write off that loss to the moron head coach, Leonard Hamilton. The negro is an idiot that has used the same last minute approach many times. The fix side of it sounds well, but don’t underestimate the ignorance of Hamilton.

The book was going to win either way. 4.5 on a 4 point game? They made money whether Michigan covered or not.

I went to a Toronto Maple Leafs game in March. The team has flexible ticket pricing, meaning the cost of the ticket changes depending on the quality of the visiting team and the importance of the game to the final standings. The price for the ticket in the gold section (second best after the platinum section): $373. For one ticket! For one game. (If the person who gave me the ticket didn’t insist on going, I’d have scalped it in a heartbeat and had a ball at the bar watching the game on the big screen.) Basketball prices in Toronto are similar, which is why the great majority of fans are white. They’re pricing all but the rich out of the games. How will families ever be able to afford taking their children? So how will they get a new generation interested in attending live sporting events? Who cares when corporations buy up most of the tickets, I guess.

Yes! The prices are breathtaking. On the annual trip to Vegas recently, my brother suggested we take the girls to the NHL game. Golden Knights tickets were 200 bucks for mediocre seats! Mrs Willard suggested Cirque de Soleil instead and prevailed.

On top of everything, we get a reaming and a SJW lecture too.

Basketball on TV is sickening to many. Men have the habit, and should
just quit watching that crap. Break the habit. I quit TV altogether/all of it.
Between the racist “programming” and the vile sickening commercials…
it is downright harmful. I am a grandmother now…no way would I allow
any TV for young people. It is nearly pornographic. I hate TV shite.

I know some people just love the “series” programming and find it reflects
real life/reflects reality. Well great…now these people know something.

Suzanna, I’m with you on this one.

I never had a TV until I got married in 1985 at the age of 32. My bride insisted on a TV so I bought her the biggest TV available at the time – a 27-inch cathode-ray tube type.

Lisa was a real TV-aholic. She would sit right in front of it what we used to call Indian-style for hours watching one mindless sitcom after another. And then there were the so-called ‘reality programs’…

I’d usually just go and sit in the backyard with the bassets.

Lisa flew off on her broom a dozen years later and took the TV with her. I don’t miss either one of them.

People talk to me about some TV program as if these are people they personally know. I have no idea what they are talking about and couldn’t care less.

Turn it off. It’s like having a bad tooth pulled…

Read this from the Zero Hedge re: Sports and broadcasting

ESPN lost nearly 17,000 subscribers a day in the month of April, costing them $48 million in annual revenue – and bringing the total subscriber count down to around 86 million, reports Outkick. Putting that into context, this is $48 million in revenue that ESPN has lost forever. (That’s $8 a month x 500,000 lost subscribers x 12 months in a year). The loss in subscribers puts ESPN down to just north of 86 million, which is a precipitous decline from the 100 million subscribers the network had as recently as the end of 2011. -Outlook the Coverage

AS long as they are politically oriented and have shows that are nothing but barking clowns versus a real sports match they are screwed…..Stay tuned sports fans!

Think about it..do you really want to watch Michelle Beadle, Greenie and Jalen Rose in the morning?

College Sports should be intramural and not the campus dominating professional for profit system that exists. College Sports produces blood money that now dictates to and denigrates the academic programs more than it supports academics, the actual purpose of colleges before professional sports took over most colleges (and is moving into many high schools). Many HS students could care less about academics because they expect to become rich in sports, entertainment, politics or some other criminal business.

Alabama football is a CULT. My 20+ yr older cousin lettered 4 yrs & played with Bart Starr. Thank God I didn’t go there but the mother of my chilluns did. Both girls are hard core cultists, despite one graduating from Chapel Hill.

55% of Bama’s enrollment is out of state at $40K extra/yr. It was 35% or so before Satan became HC; 25K undergrads BS (Before Satan), 34K AS. Do the math. The SEC is one place where the younger generation will always send $$$$.
