South African Prime Minister Hendrik Verwoerd is stabbed to death by a deranged messenger during a parliamentary meeting in Cape Town. The assailant, Demetrio Tsafendas, was a Mozambique immigrant of mixed racial descent–part Greek and part Swazi.
As minister of native affairs and later as South African leader, Verwoerd oversaw the introduction and application of South Africa’s racist apartheid policies. As prime minister from 1958, he instituted an intricate system of laws separating whites, Africans (blacks), Coloureds, and Asians, and resettled blacks in backwater reservations. These policies provoked anti-apartheid demonstrations by blacks, which were brutally crushed by government forces at Sharpeville and elsewhere. When, in April 1960, Verwoerd miraculously survived being shot twice in the head by an English farmer, he proclaimed that his survival was evidence of God’s approval of his work. During the next few years, Verwoerd’s government arrested anti-apartheid leaders such as Nelson Mandela and sentenced them to long prison terms on the basis of various convictions.
Verwoerd had succeeded in temporarily crushing anti-apartheid resistance, but he could not prevent a schizophrenic parliamentary page from walking up to him in the Houses of Assembly and stabbing him to death on September 6, 1966. Tsafendas, who apparently was not acting in protest of apartheid, was sent to a mental hospital near Johannesburg, where he lived until his death in 1999. Apartheid was abolished in South Africa in 1993.
Apartheid was instituted in order to keep the normally warring tribes from decimating each other, while establishing “homelands” for the respective tribes. It is interesting to note that every “homeland” had vast natural resources (gold, platinum, etc.) that could have been exploited and recovered by the residents (citizens) of these “homelands”, which would have benefited themselves handsomely making them wealthy.
Despite the “evils” of apartheid, there was a large influx of blacks into South Africa, as it was an African economic “superpower” and jobs were plentiful. Apartheid was able to “keep the peace” until “outsiders” (yes, we know who you are–the “chosen”) pressured the South African government to abandon this successful social system. Turning the reigns of government over to blacks was a big mistake; the results which are being felt now, with forced land expropriation as well as murders of white farmers. The farms expropriated (stolen) from whites are all in disrepair, the new “owners” are selling off the farm equipment for “scrap”, not knowing (or caring) how to run a modern farm.
Blacks are not capable of running a modern government, they ALWAYS revert to the “strongman” (dictatorial) form of government. In the “strongman” form of government, one’s “social status” is determine by how close one (is permitted to) sit to the chief. The closer one sits to the chief, the higher one’s social status is in the tribe.
Nelson Mandela was an avowed communist terrorist who held the keys to his own release, being offered by the South African government if he promised to renounce violence. Of course, he never did, until later years, but it was a hollow, false promise. His communist roots were evident, even after his release.
South Africa has become a “basket case”, not unlike the former Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).
Of course, once the South African blacks destroy their “food base” there will be cries by church groups and other “relief agencies” to help “the poor starving South Africans”.
Let ’em starve.
Thank you sir… but Apartheid was also largely about KEEPING DARKIES OUT OF THE CITIES unless there was a reason for them to be there (like productive work or genuine education).
Apartheid needs to make a roaring comeback, as it is both practical and humane.
Once you allow non-productive darkies into your cities, things go downhill quickly.
