Earth’s magnetic pole is on the move, fast. And we don’t know why

Via News.com

Earth’s magnetic field is what allows us to exist. It deflects harmful radiation. It keeps our water and atmosphere in place. But now it’s acting up — and nobody knows why.

Planet Earth is alive. Deep beneath its skin, its life blood — rivers of molten iron — pulse around its core. And this mobile iron is what generates the magnetic field that causes auroras — and keeps us alive.

But, according to the science journal Nature, something strange is going on deep down below.

It’s causing the magnetic North Pole to ‘skitter’ away from Canada, towards Siberia.

“The magnetic pole is moving so quickly that it has forced the world’s geomagnetism experts into a rare move,” Nature reports.

On January 30 (delayed due to the US Government shutdown), the World Magnetic Model — which governs modern navigation systems — is due to undergo an urgent update.

This model is a vital component of systems ranging from geopositioning systems used to navigate ships through to smartphone trackers and maps.

The current model was expected to be valid until 2020. But the magnetic pole began to shift so quickly, it was realised in 2018 that the model had to be fixed — now.

“They realised that it was so inaccurate that it was about to exceed the acceptable (safe) limit for navigational errors,” Nature reports.

FICKLE TIDES

Every year, geophysicists from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the British Geological Survey do a check on how the Earth’s magnetic field is varying.

This is necessary as the liquid iron churning in the Earth’s core does not move in a consistent manner.

“In 2016, for instance, part of the magnetic field temporarily accelerated deep under northern South America and the eastern Pacific Ocean,” Nature reports.

This shift was captured by satellites.

Earth has lines of magnetic force looping from North Pole to South Pole, creating Earth's protective magnetosphere. The straight line coming out of the North and South Poles represents Earth's axis of rotation.

But the movement of the north magnetic pole has been the object of study since 1831. Initially, it was tracked moving into the Arctic Ocean at a rate of about 15km each year. But, since the mid 1990s, it has picked up speed.

It’s now shifting at a rate of about 55km a year.

But another recent study has revealed the Earth’s magnetic field has been acting up now for some 1000 years.

CORE OF THE MATTER

Why the magnetic field is shifting so dramatically is unknown.

“Geomagnetic pulses, like the one that happened in 2016, might be traced back to ‘hydromagnetic’ waves arising from deep in the core,” Nature reports. “And the fast motion of the north magnetic pole could be linked to a high-speed jet of liquid iron beneath Canada”.

This fast-flowing molten river appears to be weakening the magnetic influence of the iron core beneath North America.

EXPLORE MORE: How humanity survived a supervolcano

“The location of the north magnetic pole appears to be governed by two large-scale patches of magnetic field, one beneath Canada and one beneath Siberia,” Phil Livermore of the University of Leeds told an American Geophysical Union meeting. “The Siberian patch is winning the competition.”

And, as global warming opens up more shipping lanes to the north of Russia and Canada, this presents a potentially deadly problem.

“The fact that the pole is going fast makes this region more prone to large errors,” says Arnaud Chulliat, a geomagnetist at the University of Colorado Boulder and NOAA.

Mr. Liberty

The meteorologists on the boob tube the past few years have brought up the term “Polar Vortex” moving further South; bringing the auroras with them. I believe this occurrence is directly related to the magnetic fields weakening and the North pole accelerating its movement towards Siberia.

the “polar vortex” refers to the persistent structure of low pressure weather systems which orbit around the top of earth’s sphere…. which are the result of the playout of fluid dynamics across the entire atmosphere.

While the cold weather seems to play a role in aurora observations (more in winter than in summer), it is the nature of the magnetic field at the poles and the way its shape allows in cosmic particles, that produces the aurora (or allows it to be visible).

If polar oceans are warming, it’s not due to CO2 global warming; so it must be due to more exposed lava in deep fractures, which would agree with more volcanoes and earthquakes during a Grand Solar Minimum. It’s not the location of the magnetic poles that matters as much as their flux strengths which is decreasing (due to changes in the flows of molten iron magma). Increased Cosmic Radiation (from the decrease in Sunspot particles and Earth’s Magnetic Field) and from failed Nuclear Reactors will become a big problem during the coming Mini-Ice Age probably beginning about 2020 (Global Climate Whores be damned).

RHS jr,

More than one factor is contributing to the phenomenon. Black soot falling onto the snow also contributes to many, not all, of these glaciers from calving.

https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/06/140610-connecting-dots-dust-soot-snow-ice-climate-change-dimick/

I would argue that where the soot and dust is coming from is highly debatable .

This is clearly the result of the humans mining iron and moving it to the surface for use in cars and buildings. You can chart how more iron/steel skyscrapers and cars being built correlates with the increasing speed of the pole movements. Not much steel was being used in 1900 and 1920 but then during WWII with the armament build up you can see the pole moves much more rapidly then slows down after the war. The in 2000s with the much of the world, like China, building like it crazy, the moment speeds up dramitically. As such, we must tax iron/steel to raise money to combat Pole Progression and stop building cars and steel buildings. If we don’t, by 2100 the magnetic north pole will continue to accelerate and join the south pole causing the magnetic field to fail and all life on earth will perish. Lots of science-y type people say so.

So, the South Pole shifts to where?

Somewhere between Chile and Australia?… and do we re-tilt and the continents all straighten up and act right or do we start getting all kinds of crazy weather and earthquakes.

Oh, never mind.

This is the global map, but if you subscribe to the Flat Earth model, simply visualize the ice wall around the continents and know the shift will not change anything until or unless the Creator decides it will be so.

Signs and wonders, indeed.

“Earth’s magnetic pole is on the move, fast. And we don’t know why”

Really?!?! The magnetic pole of the earth is not stable and has a long history of moving, including full blown pole reversals. The earth’s magnetic field arises because the earth has a liquid core, and, unsurprisingly, liquids move – especially rotating ones (the most obvious example of which is precession, as in a gyroscope). This may be a surprise to some people, but we DO know why. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal

Imagine for a moment that the rotation of the Earth is not just due to the mere “because it is so” or because something struck the planet causing it to spin in a certain direction. What if the rotation is because of a electrically induced motoring action.
We know massive amounts of electricity supplied by the sun enter and exit the planet via the poles primarily. This is shown by the aurora aka plasma dancing in the skies around the poles.
We are reasonably certain that there is a large metal core in the center of the planet. Some of it is molten, some is solid.
What if these elements took that energy and transformed it into heat and rotational energy causing the planet to spin.

What happens to a motor when you reverse the poles…or input voltage/current?

That sorta makes me a bit nervous.

It keeps our water and atmosphere in place.

Say what?

Rationale
Rationale
  Eyas
January 14, 2019 3:55 am

The vast majority of solar wind traveling on a collision course with Earth will be diverted, due to being charged, by the Earth’s magnetic field. If field were not present, more solar wind would reach Earth and very forcefully interact with our atmosphere. Very forcefully meaning push it out of Earth’s orbit a little at a time causing more surface water to evaporate and replace what’s displaced. With matter, specifically atmospheric components, leaving orbit and not being replaced we sustain a net loss leading, eventually, to no atmosphere, see Mars.

As for our natural magnetic field, fear not. Humans can artificially produce similar effects (and have been unintentionally for decades due to submarine communications) on small or large scale (HAARP (I hope I have the right harp acronym, referring to high-altitude ionospheric resonance inducing VLF EMR)).
