Ok. Something wrong with that statement. I checked and it is
any male 62+ must finish the 2 mile run in 20:00 minutes or less.
Any female, 17-22, must complete the run in at least 18:54 minutes
to pass that portion of the test.

So, the old 62 year old male General could loaf that run by over one whole
minute compared to the young 18 year old female private. Both pass.
No, I don’t think our enemies are impressed or frightened in the least but I am pretty sure that the Deep State is highly confident that these worthy officers are happy to follow their orders to disarm Americans and if resistance is encountered to terminate that resistance with extreme prejudice. I do not see a supreme allied commander in this photo . What I do see are perhaps a few there on merit and probably many there that in a firefight will be fragged to save the majority of the platoon .

A university administrator recently let slip that of Harvard’s 31 Black freshmen, ONE had met the objective criteria typical of non-Black freshmen. In other words, roughly 3% of Black admissions to elite institutions are merit-based, the other 96%+ are “affirmative action”.

So sure we like always have the wrong military for the next war, but we are pretty good at coming up to speed quickly. Remember also that wars of empire are fundamentally different than the holy crusade of “total war”…..complete societal mobilization against an existential threat……I hope we don’t see that but we likely will.

Not sure why you equate serving as a jannisairy of the empire is furthering “our” cause? I don’t know you from a can of paint, my cause is freedom, free markets and the principle that individuals can rule themselves and that they don’t need to be ruled……Can you honestly say you were serving that cause as cannon fodder in some foreign shithole? I did not serve though I have worked alongside (in many a foreign shithole) many of the bravest and brightest doing very difficult things. I don’t think a single thing we did advance the cause of freedom one iota but it certainly helped justify the MIC and advance the cause of the Elite/Deep State shadow warriors. If you feel good about what you did, awesome it takes balls to put the uniform on and go into harm’s way. My Fulda Gap “tripwire” buddies knew that they were sacrificial lambs and had no illusions that they were there to die much like the sailors at Pearl Harbor served as the causus belli for war with Germany/Japan.
Yes, you make a fair point that we have large and dangerous competitors with advanced technology and lots of manpower in the case of China. I am just making the counter-argument that logically our MIC while craven asshats are also not stupid and have countermeasures. The $1000/$5 hammer is just one tool to redirect spending to classified projects and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think we have accomplished some cool stuff with those trillions over the decades.
My father was career army, I grew up on military bases around the globe. Every time he wanted to get out one of us kids would either get sick or break some body part, and he’d re-up for the medical benefits. I never served but I lived the life and have a very good understanding of the dynamic of the military ‘mind.’ My father held no illusions, he stated that his job description was to either kill or be killed, fortunately, he ended up as a field hospital OR tech, evac hospital.
All wars are bankers wars, when Vietnam rolled around, my parents determined that my brother would go to Canada rather than be ground up in a military exercise that made some people very, very rich.
It was Obama who turned the Army into a bullshit experiment in diversity, social engineering and gender confusion. Clinton emptied it financially, Bush ran it into the ground with the ‘volunteers’ given multiple deployments.
The Army was and is a way for the financially disenfranchised to earn a living and perhaps get an education….if they don’t get shot.
I wasn’t in the military, but I have an uncle who made four stars in the Army. One time about 15 years ago he was at my mom’s house and got his first exposure to Fox News. He’d never seen it before and was impressed. He also assured me that Wesley Clark was a good man. Whatever. Look at the cast of douchebags Trump appointed who then either quit or had to be fired: General John Kelly, HR McMaster. Bunch of establishment drones. David Petreaus leaked stuff to his mistress using non-secure means. These guys are generally unimpressive. The idea of the omnipotent US military is as outmoded and ridiculous as the idea of honorable FBI agents. The only thing that’ll protect the American people is the American people. If we got in a major war outside of the US,
we’d lose again, just like we’ve lost every war since Korea – with the possible exception of Grenada.
Do a little Googling on “wars of empire” vs. wars of survival…..I would argue we haven’t been in an existential war since the Civil War…..and the Revolution being the only other war where losing had serious consequences. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq 1, 2 Afghanistan and all the nameless actions in between (Somalia, Libya, etc.) didn’t matter whether we won or lost……sure they were all terrible and life-altering for the folks involved whether they came home without a scratch or in a box or not at all. The point is that as a country we have not been truly mobilized for a long long time and while undermanned, undergunned etc that is pretty typical but guess what…..our global competitors put their pants on one leg at a time and they face similar challenges. When was China last truly mobilized (WWII) Russia? WWII so they haven’t done shit for 80 years and in the limited engagements they have had have performed exceptionally poorly. Vietnam bitch slapped China and the Russians epically failed in Afgh (we did much better but of course nobody wins there).
