I opened a box of old photos, looking for pictures for a friend’s family which I KNEW I had, but had misplaced and the one photo I was looking for was just laying on the top.
Along with my son’s bottom retainer, which he lost the year he moved to Rolla from Oklahoma.
My husband told him he didn’t need it, but he was frantic. Dr. Ruiz, in OKC, had put the fear of retainer in him, telling him he’d been gifted with great teeth and he should take care of them. Dr. Ruiz, a Puerto Rican from New York (legal) told all the kids he put braces on the story of mopping floors for an orthodontist to correct his own “overjet.” That was the same orthodontist I’d taken my stepson to the year he was 15 and his braces were disastrous, due to neglect. The other son, with great teeth, was 6 years old and watching all that work on his brother’s teeth. It put the fear of flossing into him.
All is well now.
Vinnie is married, with all his teeth (save one lost, apparently, in a bar fight) and the other one is working for a living, as an adult should.
Maggie, did I ever tell you of the time my grand kid was in the children’s hospital in Phoenix? He had a spider fracture on the back of his head. We were all there waiting on the doctor’s decision regarding surgery or what? Out of the next bay – they are large rooms with 4 to six beds – a mylar balloon floated in. It said, all things work together for good for those who love God.
