Not that I think that government can solve the problems government created, but at least in Britain and other parliamentary structured governments, you can start up a new party, get it on the ballot, and begin winning seats to represent the voters, in a manner of only months. Just look at the Brexit party. They are months old, yet claimed a massive number of seats for Britain in the EU parliament, and if Brexit goes nowhere, will likely unseat the Conservative Party in Britain in the November elections.
Meanwhile, here in the US, ballot access laws are so onerous, that in the state of Georgia, no third party candidate has been able to qualify for the ballot for a US House of Representatives seat, since 1935!!! And that was a socialist. We have ballot access laws that keep parties from the ballot, direct collusion by the two major parties to keep anyone but them off the debate stage, and obvious collusion by the entire mainstream media to prevent any real coverage of ANY candidate who dares speak about anything beyond the narrow, acceptable window of allowable topics that party leadership has established.
Say what you will about a parliamentary system, but at least they have a real chance of getting people elected that actually represent their views. Meanwhile in the US, survey after survey puts “libertarian” voters at around 16%, yet not one could ever hope to get elected to a position higher than mayor or state legislature (Ron Paul as the exception, though all victories as a republican…and that’s the point).
If voting mattered HR would give it up already.

But the best example right now is Brexit. The moneyed elite and their lap dogs were sure that they could put this unrest to bed with a referendum and they got stuffed. If they can do it, why not us?
But to those who question the value of voting, I would say that you are missing the most critical part of democracy. Voting is the end result of discussion. If you stifle the discussion, you trivialize the vote. If we the people can’t know anything, how can we possibly make an informed decision? It is the discussion before the vote that creates the environment for the clash of ideas that changes minds. We all learn from each other in a discussion.
