Poor Rich People

Guest Post by The Zman

One of the great challenges of the demographic age will be re-conditioning people to think culturally, rather than materially. This is particularly true of conservative white people, who have been trained their whole lives to define their existence by the amount of stuff their heirs will throw away when they die. Theirs is an entirely materialist existence, so the transition to cultural thinking is going to be difficult. An example of this is in this post by Steve Sailer regarding public venues.

He starts with the observation that the ancients built a lot of very sturdy stone theaters and arenas, while those who came immediately after the fall of Rome did not built anything of significance. It was not until the Middle Ages that we see the building of large public structures, but those were cathedrals and churches. He notes that it took until modernity to build large public arenas. Sailer then jumps to the conclusion that the Greeks and Romans must have a lot of money relative to the Middle Ages.

Now, it certainly required a great deal of money to hire men to build amphitheaters and arenas in the ancient world. Reallocating thousands of people from farming and military service can only be done by a wealthy society. The early medieval period in Europe was not a time of great prosperity. Wealth is not enough, however. Those theaters and arenas were not just the toys of rich people. They were not built by rich people, at least not in the way in which our sports arenas are built today.

In fact, the more apt comparison is between the arenas and theaters of the ancient world and the cathedrals and churches of the Middle Ages. The theaters built by the Greeks were an important part of their cultural life. The plays and festivals reinforced the cultural values that made Greek life possible. The arenas built by the Romans were not just for sport. They also had strong cultural importance. The reenactment of great battles tied the Roman to his past and to his ancestors.

For most modern white people, Sailer’s instincts on this seem natural. After all, we live in an age without any sense of culture, other than the endless war on what is left of white culture by the brown tide sweeping the land. For most Americans, the point of life has been to stuff their pockets with as much stuff as they can. The measure of life is your pile of stuff. The super-successful at getting stuff build really large buldings where you can buy stuff, like sports jerseys to remember buying stuff.

It is a good example of how the white people who came along after the Second World War became entirely materialistic in their thinking. This is not a Baby Boomer issue, but more about the legacy of their parents. That cohort went through the Great Depression and then the privations of the war. In the ensuing boom times of the early days of the empire, they justifiably enjoyed the fruits of their labor. It was a golden age, relative what came before, so they quickly learned to value material prosperity.

The so-called greatest generation gets credit for weathering the grinding depression, without embracing communism. They get credit for fighting two industrial wars on two continents, winning both and ushering in the Pax Americana. They also should get credit, and blame, for ushering in the material age, where all things are measured in material terms. The generation that built the American empire, also built a society in which everyone knows the price of everything, but the value of nothing.

It has become a meme to mock the Baby Boomers for their obsession with stuff, but it is a society-wide phenomenon. Modern America functions like a ghetto riot, in which the culture is a liquor store. Everyone is just smashing and grabbing what they can, not because they need it or want it, but because that’s what they do. This is particularly true with conservatives. All of their arguments, particularly those that fall into the cultural and spiritual, have been reduced to economic appeals.

In the long scope of things, the American empire will be seen as an entirely artificial construct, built on the wreckage of Western civilization. The two great industrial wars that opened the 20th century exhausted the people spiritually. This includes the people who claimed to have saved the West. The cultural achievements of the American empire, such as they are, reflect that lack of spirit. The American empire and the culture around it is a lifeless zombie shuffling through time and space.

A simple way of seeing this is the fact that Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood and the center of American popular culture, has a homeless camp in the center. Estimates say it contains 70,000 of our fellow citizens. Yet, the super-rich who run the city are not concerned in the least. After all, they have their stuff. Even the most callous of Roman emperor had compassion for the poor of Rome. The modern American oligarch has nothing but contempt for those who cannot consume product.

The current ructions are not a response to the changing demographics as the suicidal wreckers like to claim. It’s not about the transition to a post-national order. The reason for the growing unhappiness is that modern American society offers no purpose, no beauty and no reason to celebrate life. It’s an ugly age with a sterile ascetic that reflects the transactional nature of the age. This is an unnatural state for people, so the people are increasingly unhappy with life in the material age.

I’m a bit confused — did we “white people” *ever* have a good/decent/whatever “culture” here in the US, or is it that we had a good “culture” *before* WWII, and then we became a materialistic culture only then? I’m not trying to be a jerk, I don’t get if Zman’s point is that we haven’t had a good “white” culture since … Rome? I’m thinking that because he specifically mentions the boomers after WWII as really contributing to some kind of collapse of “white culture,” then before then, at least for a few years (1800s? early 1900s? Post-Revolutionary war but pre-Civil war? Somewhere in there?) — so, is there a sample of a working white culture we could try again, or do we need to start over from … ? I’m genuinely curious as to what he would use as an example of what to aspire to, though if we have to go back to Rome I’m thinking that’s gonna be a stretch.

I asked Stucky to come up with a description of American ‘culture’ that wasn’t commercials and product labels. The culture is back in Europe or back in pre-Columbian Mexico. Every time somebody wants to point out any great White inventions, they have to reach back to Europe, or to earlier Arab, Egyptian and Greek inventions. America has no culture, it is a giant Walmart in a huge airport where strangers gather. They come and go and build nothing, create nothing and leave nothing.

The liberty these Americans are so jealous of allows them to fuck each other and molest little kids. They are free to buy guns to murder their neighbors. Their constitution allows them the freedom from religious constraints, to do anything they wish to do without fear of eternal punishment or critical opprobrium. The pursuit of happiness guaranteed in the writings of the founding fathers gives them license to gather them rosebuds while the may, stashing those and everything else their heart desires in closets and storage units and second ‘homes’ while thousands of people live in homeless encampments in the streets in the greatest nation on earth.

The culture of this rich land does not provide for mercy or charity, these things are deemed communist, and communism is next to ungodliness. Suffer the little children, they say. They repeat the words of the lord – the poor will always be with you. Better they should be in the streets of the most hated cities of the land. Fuck California; give us Barabbas, they say, he was a thief but at least he took from people, he didn’t have communist leanings, giving to undeserving people.

The boomers will be gone someday and good riddance. These fat cows of Bashan have impoverished the world to satisfy their lusts. Now they worry about climate change and drought and failing crops that threaten their fat existence; their McMansions by the lake and the gasoline to run their iCars with the latest electronic gadgets. They decry the encroachment of the poor as they consume the food and water that once fed and kept these poor in their own lands. The scions of Peter Stuyvesant, engineers of the debacle deplore the depredations of the deprived. The lands don’t yield corn? Let them eat cake, say the Minnesotan Antoinettes.

Get this… I get some really good herb imported from Cali and distill some of it into Everclear for use in herbal oils and tinctures, right? Well, my husband gets all upset because I rubbed all this really nice oil on him and he got buzzed and he hates being buzzed. So, I took advantage of him.

Now? He says he won’t let me rub any oil on his private areas unless I swear it ain’t tainted.

He is such a prude.

Dear Abby… can this marriage be saved?

Glad to find you two in a corner chatting. Where’s Bee Attitude?

So, here’s the thing about self-interest versus selfishness.

Eventually, one’s self-interest has to expand to include the interests of those close to you, at least in proximity if not in nature.

There is a 40-something man building a tiny little house at the edge of our property. At closing, we discovered the road on the hillside sliced a pie-shaped wedge off the farm beside our property. A right triangle of land about 50 feet at the widest point narrowing to a tiny strip on the way toward our driveway. The realtor said the farmer told her he wanted to keep it. (it is a great hunting spot because it is cliff-like, overlooking a hayfield and the river!)

Well, the farmer sold that little strip to this local man, who is divorced and lost what shirt he had. He moved a little camper down there with a picnic table and started clearing rocks and brush. This past summer? He started a tiny little 20 x 20 house that is two stories high. It is solidly built, but it is a crazy looking residence. He asked if he could run electricity to our poles. We looked into it.

The electric company requires 20 feet either side. That would take out a half-acre of our trees, some over a hundred years old. So. Nick said No. Hell NO.

It is in our self-interest to help him and we want to help him, if it is not intrusive to us. However, since it is intrusive? It is NOT OUR PROBLEM and all his.

That’s not greed on our part; it is a just a different kind of self-interest.

Uploading pictures for my Veterans Day and Beyond project with the Coonskin and thought I’d pop over and ramble.

P.S. That farmer is an ass. He knew that piece of ground is almost worthless, but he took advantage. We would have bought it to clean up the platte map but he’s an ass. My father knew his grandfather. That’s how it is around here. What is in a NAME around here is the history and heritage of your entire FAMILY.

The guy building the little weird house? He comes from what my father would call “good stock.” He’ll figure it out and we will get along fine.

Diagnosis is not a cure but describing the symptoms can lead to an investigation and prognosis. While we engage in an active denial, pointing fingers and fixing the blame on moon tides and latitudes, finally recognizing that the American patient is sick with a sexual malaise – pedophilia, homosexuality, transgenderism and a general aversion towards women and procreation. Drug abuse and widespread pornography must have some cause and effect. The absence of teaching and the abundance of misinformation might also be contributing factors. Instead of sharing information, the victims of the American syndrome are encouraged by the orderlies to fight each other like mental patients in a ward.

There was a time when folks here could see the light. Today, they are as brain-washed as the folks who watch FOX and CNN.

At one time they would have demanded answers like why isn’t Hillary in jail? Who whacked Epstein? Why are we still in the ME?

Instead, folks have aligned themselves like some country line dance routine on either side of the Trump divide – pro or against impeachment.

Real patriots would have said impeach the motherfucker way back when he didn’t do any of the things he promised to do once he was elected.

Hope you like extra mayo on your cock-meat sandwich.

Man and woman together form a child and they bond as family. The cornerstone of society is the family. Without it, the structure will never withstand a gale force.

You are at least fairly correct in that their is no culture beyond the curiosity that came across the pond with us. And we’ve created nothing but consumption since we took up the habits and misery of war as our mantle of ‘greatness’.

“The reason for the growing unhappiness is that modern American society offers no purpose, no beauty and no reason to celebrate life”

So well said and a great article Zman thank you. Shades of Sodom & Gomorrah? “The people of Sodom and of the nearby city of Gomorrah were very bad. In fact, they were so bad that God decided to destroy those cities.” Be warned Jezebel of the western world – your fate is already determined.

I always thought that I was a ‘Boomer’ but being born in 1944 – I was at the tail-end of the Silent Generation – but still enjoyed the excesses of the post war years here in UK. My early childhood was really fulfilling with free education, health and a very pleasant, polite and supportive society. We were poor in the current context but actually, even with rationing, we had to make our own pleasures doing all sorts of constructive things within a safe environment. I am eternally grateful for where I was born and brought up.

So what happened? The Sixties happened, that’s what and it went downhill from there. I describe some of this in the Introduction to my book which appeared here many months ago, 78 weeks actually. If anyone would like a free pdf copy please email me at: [email protected]
