Okay folks, it’s that time of year again. We just started cleaning out the sap buckets in preparation for sugaring this year when it occurred to me that it was just around this time last year that we began to make plans for the 1st Annual Burning Platform Independence Day Celebration. Based on the feedback from last years participants as well as the interest from those who were keeping their powder dry to see if the first one was worth it, we’ve decided to do it again.
This year the 4th of July falls on a Saturday which may make attendance easier for those who were unable to attend midweek like last year. We’ll open the farm for the entire weekend for those who want to get a look around and see how we do things, maybe participate in some of the set-up and preparations or just stop in to visit with each other under a blue sky on the side of a lush, green mountain with 360 degree views of the region.
We have also struck a deal with a local Bed & Breakfast- rumored to be home to the ghost of Charlie Chaplin- for those looking for reasonable priced lodging just down the road from the farm. It’s beautiful and run by a lovely family that takes great pride in both their home and their breakfasts.
In order to get a feel for how many people might be joining us, please drop me an email or give us a call and we’ll do our best to make sure that this year is twice as rewarding as last year.
For those of you who did attend last year we hope you will join us again and by all means let everyone know what your experience was like so we can pack the tent with as many good people as possible.
We are also taking advance orders for syrup, first come first served. This year looks like it will be a good one.

The earth is not a sphere, it is flat and contained in a spherical dome like it was a gigantic terrarium. Planes don’t really fly, they just show you pictures on the ‘windows’.
Maybe you could put together a Powerpoint presentation of just that and show it at HSF’s shin-dig? Make it convincing.

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) – don’t fly into Boston-Logan, it’s a mess and traffic is a bitch. Spend the extra 20, 30 whatever bucks, trust me. I live about 20 minutes from that airport, so if you need a lift, let me know. I also have an off grid (solar) waterfront camp about 20 minutes from the farmer if anyone wants to rough it for a night or so, you are welcome to crash and swim/fish. I plan to volunteer at the farm on the Friday the 3rd and the morning of the 4th if my back holds out. Looking forward to it Marc, might try to make it up there in the next month or so for a day to help out with the syrup operation in exchange for some beef bones.

I try and always stay within 200 miles of home, with my car, and avoid large crowds. Last year I certainly felt I would make it this year but my views on travel have changed. But I will order syrup!

Thank you once again for the offer of hospitality. Right now, on this end, Independence Day 2020 in the Granite State would have to fall into the category of “unlikely”. However, “unlikely” does not preclude any potentiality for surprise.
At the very least, my brother has asked my wife and I to join him and his wife on a RV trip throughout New England in the near future. Although he favors this Fall, or the Fall of 2021, Summer 2021 is not out of consideration. Should this come to fruition, you will be notified well in advance to see what works.
Until then, my hope is that TEOTWAWKI will be delayed.
