THIS DAY IN HISTORY – Neil Armstrong walks on moon (Or did he?) – 1969

Via History.com

At 10:56 p.m. EDT, American astronaut Neil Armstrong, 240,000 miles from Earth, speaks these words to more than a billion people listening at home: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Stepping off the lunar landing module Eagle, Armstrong became the first human to walk on the surface of the moon.

The American effort to send astronauts to the moon has its origins in a famous appeal President John F. Kennedy made to a special joint session of Congress on May 25, 1961: “I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth.” At the time, the United States was still trailing the Soviet Union in space developments, and Cold War-era America welcomed Kennedy’s bold proposal.

In 1966, after five years of work by an international team of scientists and engineers, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) conducted the first unmanned Apollo mission, testing the structural integrity of the proposed launch vehicle and spacecraft combination. Then, on January 27, 1967, tragedy struck at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, when a fire broke out during a manned launch-pad test of the Apollo spacecraft and Saturn rocket. Three astronauts were killed in the fire.

Despite the setback, NASA and its thousands of employees forged ahead, and in October 1968, Apollo 7, the first manned Apollo mission, orbited Earth and successfully tested many of the sophisticated systems needed to conduct a moon journey and landing. In December of the same year, Apollo 8 took three astronauts to the far side of the moon and back, and in March 1969 Apollo 9 tested the lunar module for the first time while in Earth orbit. Then in May, the three astronauts of Apollo 10 took the first complete Apollo spacecraft around the moon in a dry run for the scheduled July landing mission.

At 9:32 a.m. on July 16, with the world watching, Apollo 11 took off from Kennedy Space Center with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin Jr., and Michael Collins aboard. Armstrong, a 38-year-old civilian research pilot, was the commander of the mission. After traveling 240,000 miles in 76 hours, Apollo 11 entered into a lunar orbit on July 19. The next day, at 1:46 p.m., the lunar module Eagle, manned by Armstrong and Aldrin, separated from the command module, where Collins remained. Two hours later, the Eagle began its descent to the lunar surface, and at 4:18 p.m. the craft touched down on the southwestern edge of the Sea of Tranquility. Armstrong immediately radioed to Mission Control in Houston, Texas, a famous message: “The Eagle has landed.”

At 10:39 p.m., five hours ahead of the original schedule, Armstrong opened the hatch of the lunar module. As he made his way down the lunar module’s ladder, a television camera attached to the craft recorded his progress and beamed the signal back to Earth, where hundreds of millions watched in great anticipation. At 10:56 p.m., Armstrong spoke his famous quote, which he later contended was slightly garbled by his microphone and meant to be “that’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” He then planted his left foot on the gray, powdery surface, took a cautious step forward, and humanity had walked on the moon.

“Buzz” Aldrin joined him on the moon’s surface at 11:11 p.m., and together they took photographs of the terrain, planted a U.S. flag, ran a few simple scientific tests, and spoke with President Richard M. Nixon via Houston. By 1:11 a.m. on July 21, both astronauts were back in the lunar module and the hatch was closed. The two men slept that night on the surface of the moon, and at 1:54 p.m. the Eagle began its ascent back to the command module. Among the items left on the surface of the moon was a plaque that read: “Here men from the planet Earth first set foot on the moon–July 1969 A.D–We came in peace for all mankind.”

At 5:35 p.m., Armstrong and Aldrin successfully docked and rejoined Collins, and at 12:56 a.m. on July 22 Apollo 11 began its journey home, safely splashing down in the Pacific Ocean at 12:51 p.m. on July 24.

There would be five more successful lunar landing missions, and one unplanned lunar swing-by, Apollo 13. The last men to walk on the moon, astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt of the Apollo 17 mission, left the lunar surface on December 14, 1972. The Apollo program was a costly and labor intensive endeavor, involving an estimated 400,000 engineers, technicians, and scientists, and costing $24 billion (close to $100 billion in today’s dollars). The expense was justified by Kennedy’s 1961 mandate to beat the Soviets to the moon, and after the feat was accomplished ongoing missions lost their viability.

Man may have walked on the moon but i doubt it was via Apollo.

Seeing is believing, it’s said. Get access to a big/powerful telescope and look for yourself where they say we landed in 1969. See what your eyes tell you….

Too much interference from the atmosphere, etc. to be able to see anything that small on the moon. Not that I think we went there….just saying that it just isn’t possible from this distance and through our atmosphere to see the stuff. And nothing to say that unmanned crap ended up on the moon’s surface, like the mirrors they claim were put there by one of the Apollo missions.

We never went to the moon. It was a master propaganda stroke that solidified the USA’s unquestioned dominance in the world order. If you think we did go, then riddle me this –

1) Why are there no blast craters underneath the LEMs in all 6 Apollo moon landing missions? Looks like each LEM was put in place by a crane as there is absolutely no soil disturbance underneath after landing impact despite the jets of exhaust gases.
2) Why is each LEM so squeaky clean even though there should have been a great big dust cloud after landing?
3) Why is there no dust on the moon? The lunar rover should have kicked up clouds of dust, not dust-free gravel.
4) Why can’t anyone see stars from the moon? Oh yeah, because some enterprising person could orient the exact supposed position of the LEM and debunk the landing.
5) Why does the LEM quiver after launch from the moon’s surface as if it is suspended from a cable?
6) How is it that the astronauts levitate on the moon’s surface, especially after falling down?
7) Why was no camera placed outside the LEM to record the descent and landing, but was outside to record Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon? The moon has no atmosphere so the camera would not have burned up on entry.
8) What is with the half-speed motion shit on the moon’s surface? In zero-gravity plane flights motion takes place at full speed.
9) With 1/6th the gravity of earth, why does the Lunar Rover kick gravel up to about the same height as it would in earth’s gravity?
10) Why does the flag blow in the zero atmosphere wind when it is unfurled?
11) Why was the amount of fuel carried by the LEM never reported?
12) How did the LEM end up in an upright position in all 6 landings despite a complete lack of X-Y plane steering ability at high speeds? How was it these missions were so lucky as to never landed in a hole or at a serious angle?

And the big one, the van Allen Belt. We seem to survive outside that with no effects whatsoever.

I think that the evidence is fairly overwhelming that we did not land on the Moon. That does not mean that we had not been or have not been to the moon. Those missions are no doubt classified. The Apollo missions were all staged for the public so that NASA could continue to get a good chunk of taxpayer dollars which were then funneled to the real hidden space program. This is probably not the place to go into great detail but several things stick out in my mind. Recently a NASA scientist was commenting on the Orion program and he stated that he was not sure how or if we would be able to get through the intense radiation of the Van Allen radiation belts. Well if they are struggling with this question now then how did we do it in 1969? Also I have seen many pictures from the surface of the moon where the shadows cast by different objects were going in different directions. A virtual impossibility. Also, it should be noted, that the moon has no atmosphere, therefore, we should be able to see spectacular vistas of the stars and we don’t. In analyzing the Project Apollo technology ‘footprint’ I do not see the capability of NASA to land a man on the Moon at that time. It is interesting to note that we never went back to the Moon. Why I wonder? Instead we chose to endlessly circle the Earth in the Space Shuttle. If we were so interested to explore brave new worlds why did we not follow up Apollo with a mission to establish a base on the Moon. I have heard people say it was a money issue. I think not. Look at what we have wasted money on since then. I think that the real story of the moon and what has been going on up there is hidden from pubic view. But many surface anomalies have been photographed and their is some evidence that a base is hidden on the dark side of the moon. I might also point out that the Moon itself may be an artificial construct. It has been proven practically hollow and as Dr. Sagan once said ‘a natural satellite cannot be hollow.’ It does not rotate which is highly unusual and the rocks and other metals on the Moon seem to indicate that it was not formed in any way like the Earth or even near the Earth. Yes I think we have been to the Moon but not with project Apollo.

BTW, just in case you didn’t know, it was not Neil Armstrong who first set foot upon the moon. It was Al Gore, the inventor of the Internet.

In my opinion, project Apollo did not land on the Moon and what we saw was staged in a studio.

The Soviet Union and China, among other states, would’ve had a field day if it had been possible to prove Apollo was a staged hoax. And how could Nasa hope to prevent one of the 400k workers from leaking the ‘truth’ during all the missions?

At least, it is funny that the “early” missions had all this weight closely calculated and then, walla, all of a sudden we can strap a dune buggy on. Just very strange to say the least.

Even in the “official” pictures, there are ones that are admitted to be staged in a studio. Why bother w staged photos at all if you have the real thing.

More just strange.

17 There is nothing which is secret save it shall be revealed; there is no work of darkness save it shall be made manifest in the light; and there is nothing which is sealed upon the earth save it shall be loosed.

18 Wherefore, all things which have been revealed unto the children of men shall at that day be revealed; and Satan shall have power over the hearts of the children of men no more, for a long time. And now, my beloved brethren, I make an end of my sayings.
