General welfare clause?
Nope. The Constitution is a negative document as far as the federal government is concerned, in that it limits what it can do. Everything they’re allowed to do is listed. The Tenth Amendment shows everything else is left to the states and the people. They just pulled “general welfare” out of the preamble and claimed it as something they’re allowed to do because they don’t even follow the Constitution.
General Welfare would imply a good for all, not a selected few?
I used to participate in the United Fund. I then saw money going to places I never intended, like 40-80% to admin costs or on projects and places I didn’t want to support.

You are sounding like Chucky and SanFranNan now. There is nothing they cannot do under the general welfare clause.

you should have posted all of Horatio Bunce’s conversation w/ Crockett and then added that Crockett ‘personally’ ponied up and challenged his compatriots to do the same… as I recall….. crickets… nothing new under the sun.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
