Not too many people will watch a video.

It’s only 6 minutes.

BULLSHIT!

Whatever rulings gave “rights” to corporations, had far less impact than all the POWER the government has seized, and all the freedoms it has destroyed over the same period of time. It only makes sense that a group of people should be able to form a legal entity that can enter into contracts, sue in relation to those contracts, etc. They should not have to “serve the public” or any other BS justification in order to do this. But behind that is GOVERNMENT, exerting power that it never should have been allowed to have. Lincoln feared corporations, while he and previous Whig congresses and administrations imposed massive tariffs on goods for the express purpose of enriching northern corporate interests, not the least of which were the railroads. Lincoln saying this is like Eisenhower condemning the MIC when he left office, while shoveling millions into their pockets while IN office. And the piece focuses so much on power today, while failing to account for the fact that nobody would even want to purchase the power of government if government did not have the power to infinitely STEAL, infinitely REGULATE, pick winners and losers, destroy businesses, destroy competition, and so much more. It is hardly useful to point out that there is nothing inherently wrong with corporations, while not bothering one bit to mention that corporations became as powerful as they did BECAUSE government has been allowed to become as powerful as it has, and one hand has washed the other every step of the way. Oh, and I love how Exxon-Mobil is painted as the “bad guy” while Google is painted as the “good guy.” A bit out of date for sure.

Well said, MrLiberty.

Particularly enjoyed Lincoln’s quote. It was very powerful and more so, accurate. Thanks Glock-N-Load

‘Member in the 80’s, when practically every small and mid-sized business sold out to a national corporation? Lots of folks made lots of money. So, yeah, here we are.

You simply cannot look at any event with blinders on. Every business is subject to massive regulatory and inflationary pressures. Add in labor laws, tax costs, and so much more, and the “incentive” to sell becomes greater than the desire to continue as is. And those are only the pressures from GOVERNMENT, not from the business climate itself. Add in the massive free-money machine of the Federal Reserve, and you have folks who are able to secure massive amounts of money beyond what the savings rates should allow (were we to have honest and sound banking and money), and suddenly you have an environment where takeovers, buyouts, and sell-offs become more commonplace. And then one cannot separate from the issue all the factors (mostly governmental) that allowed al of these corporations to become so big in the first place prior to the 80s. I certainly can’t say what would have happened without these other factors, but one cannot pretend that it was all about greed (on the part of the small and medium size business owners).
