“Townsends” is a family business that provides everything you need for reenactments that focus on the 18th century and the very early 19th century. They do many videos, including weekly historical cooking videos, but they’ve also done videos on how to build a dugout canoe, an 18 th century log cabin with fireplace, making homemade bricks, and building a clay oven, and much more.
This is an episode of “Live at the Nutmeg Tavern,” which is presented live every Friday. Many times they host a guest. This past Friday, they featured Cory Grove, author of “Durable Trades,” a book that focuses on durable trades that have stood the test of time.
Anyone interested in self-sufficiency, building a new career that could include the family, or if you’re just worried about what trade you can do in the new dystopian future, will enjoy this video.
(Don’t be surprised by their dress. They always dress in the 18 th century clothing that they sell.)
It is my sincere desire to provide readers of this site with the best unbiased information available, and a forum where it can be discussed openly, as our Founders intended. But it is not easy nor inexpensive to do so, especially when those who wish to prevent us from making the truth known, attack us without mercy on all fronts on a daily basis. So each time you visit the site, I would ask that you consider the value that you receive and have received from The Burning Platform and the community of which you are a vital part. I can't do it all alone, and I need your help and support to keep it alive. Please consider contributing an amount commensurate to the value that you receive from this site and community, or even by becoming a sustaining supporter through periodic contributions. I put his name wrong in the introduction. It’s Rory Groves.
That was phenomenal. What great information. The book is on order. Thanks so much VV.
Thank you, C.C. I’ve already received the book but have only had a chance to glance at it but it looks like it’s going to be extremely interesting. I’m going to have to devote a night to read this one.
I going to encourage my 35 year old daughter to quit her dead-end corporate job and become a midwife. She has a great personality and is a wonderful mother. She’d make an excellent one. Let me know if you get pregnant-I’ll cut you a break.
It’s a little too late for me to get pregnant but I think that’s a good idea for your daughter. Unfortunately, as far I can tell, being a midwife is not allowed in my state. But when all hell breaks loose, the laws against it won’t matter anyway, and people will still be having babies. I’ve been thinking about learning the trade myself.
Townsend has great videos, I sometimes spend an evening just watching them. The last one I watched was on doing laundry in the 17th century. Do you know that urine is a key component of doing laundry? Well, it is…or, rather, was…..
I read a lot of history so I did know urine was used in laundry. In fact, the Romans used to set out large urns for people to piss in to collect the urine.
Townsends offers some good books, especially the journals that show what life was really like and the things they did, from the food they ate to how they traveled and to how to build things.
Thanks for this,really enjoyed it.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, splurge.
I made a quick video on Rumble last night about a small project I’m doing. Anyways Admin suggested I do a feature once in a while on some the the life hacks I’m prone to take on.
My wife wants to redo basement and one of the things she wants is old fashioned solid doors instead of the ones we got now… Anyways me being cheap I put an ad on the buy and sell looking for old door for the low, low price of free because I’m cheap. So the other day I got a response and voila some doors that got to be a hundred or more years old…
They are several coats of paint that had to be peeled off
but are cleaning nice see below..
first coat of primer
So I’m going around some ideas about how to approach the videos. There are a couple of projects that might be kinda cool to document. Any input is welcome.
I’m kinda thinking it will be a diversion like the Sunday classics except for wannabe tradesmen like myself.
RiNS
Excellent idea, RiNS. I’ll look forward to your future videos.
By the way, the doors look beautiful.
fun vid. thanks for sharing, VV ⭐️.
Thanks, cz. It’s a fun channel to watch and you get to learn things along the way.
By the way, it’s called the Nutmeg Tavern because Jon Townsend is obsessed with nutmeg. He puts it in everything.
