The Rise of the Military Industrial Corporate Oligarchy

This twenty-four minute video explains how profoundly the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens’ United vs FEC viewed Corporate status as citizen changed election law regarding political speech and campaign donations.

Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 310 (2010) It was argued in 2009 and decided in 2010. The Court held that the free speech clause of the First Amendment prohibits the government from restricting independent expenditures for political communications by corporations, including nonprofit corporations, labor unions, and other associations.

While the discussion of the SCOTUS decision should cue up when played (7:30), the entire video really is worth watching to grasp how interconnected and entangled all the corporate and bureaucratic players become with military contracts. With my background experience from Tinker AFB maintenance depot (financials and scheduling), I can promise you there was never a high level meeting without a Boeing or Northrup Grumman representative in the room, suited up, attentive to the General.

It almost appears these corporations actually shape US Foreign Policy doesn’t it?

The correct argument has not been made before the court. Corporations are fictitious persons, imbued with LIMITED status and rights as a citizen so they can do business as a legal entity. They have first amendment rights, but ARE NOT ALLOWED TO VOTE like a citizen. Therefore, it should be perfectly allowable to not have any ( or all) rights to influence elections with money. The individuals who have ownership (stockholders) can individually vote, so no harm no foul. Removing the corporate money completely from elections from an entity who cannot vote in that election seems to fit the proper argument.

Good luck getting the “court” to listen. Courts are now fictitious entities.

Of course they do. I think we can safely say Corporations Rule the Congresscritters and also the Supreme Court.

If they don’t get on the grift wagon immediately, the Congresscritter is declared rogue. Corporate interests probably drug them and take their picture in compromising positions like they obviously have done with a few I won’t bother to name.

I think we all know some others who have probably been either Lewinskied or Epsteined into crawling into the Swamp. I think most of them are exactly that corrupted and despicable.

I think there are far too many of these policy wonkers working for Citizen Corporations against the rest of us regular citizens there on K street.

@Ordo,

I’ll check the video out later. Must have been majestic and truly special to see such an occurrence in person. Awesome stuff!

CITIZENS UNITED VS THE UNITED STATES was a hurdle overcome by corporations that some States had put in their paths to try and prevent so much influence in elections that these uncontrolled .monopolies truly have on the population of the planet.
This is why I never understood why more “conservatives ” couldn’t embrace those from the “left” who pointed out the problems with our current “capitalist” system, specifically the pay to play schemes, rotating door in D.C. and Wall St. At the expense of Main street.

Anyways, I think most conservatives have been programmed to immediately get defensive if someone starts talking about class warfare, the 1%, thr extreme wealth inequality that currently exists and, multi national corporations’ inordinate amount of influence on our foreign and domestic policy implementation.

What has happened to the Democratic party? What of its heroic and noble legacy of opposing useless, wasteful and unnecessary wars? On election night cheers went up from the belly of the beast (the Pentagon) and its extensive cadre of contractors. Comrade Joe will continue our adventurism abroad. Hoooooraaaaaay! The Ghosts of Eugene McCarthy, RFK and George McGovern must be turning in their graves. Remember what the attitude of Madeline Albright was toward indigenous people of the Middle East. Former first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has pressed for war against the Russians and now with the ascension of illegitimate President Biden she may get her wish. It was in the aftermath of 9-11 that I realized we had only one party in the U.S. and that is the party of war. Only one Representative, Barbara Lee (D-TX) voted against the war in Afghanistan. How can that be? What have we become that we need to spend our precious resources and the lives of our children torturing tiny little villages in the Middle East. The collateral damage has been enormous. Is there no end to this insanity?

Only one Representative, Barbara Lee (D-TX) voted against the war in Afghanistan.

What about Dr. No, i.e. Rep. Ron Paul? As a principled libertarian, he was consistently and adamantly opposed to U.S. military intervention in foreign countries.

I agree with Shotgun -non-voting “persons” should not be able to pad the pockets of elected officials. That they can and do (boy, do they) . . . is a bribe.

Thanks, Ghost, for posting this. Most of us probably know most of this info but it is GREAT to have it in a relatively short video as a resource for other people.

Just one example of the military/industrial complex, “Mad Dog” Mattis, from Wikipedia…

After retiring from the military, Mattis worked for FWA Consultants and served as a member of the General Dynamics Board of Directors.[77] Between 2013 and 2017, while on the board of General Dynamics, Mattis made more than $900,000 in compensation, including company stock…

From 2013 to January 2017, Mattis was a board member of Theranos,…

On August 7, 2019, Mattis was re-elected to the board of General Dynamics.
