As the years go on I’m becoming more and more skeptical of Snowden’s motives. At first I thought his cause was noble but now he’s just pontificating in front of a camera any chance he gets. The documentary was understandable and I wasn’t bother by the Hollywood movie about him. But if he was so selfless in his actions why does he keep on insisting on shoving himself into a spotlight? Why the need to become an “activist” like all the other attention seekers? It’s been 8 years since he exiled himself to Russia. Why not go off and live his life in peace?

If you knew the truth, would you go off into the sunset? What is your idea of a hero? Someone who quits?

He hasn’t been in government for 8 years. He has no new information. At this point he’s preaching to the choir.

I think it helps people continue to think about freedom and why it matters. We have very few heroes on our side. We’re constantly drowned out. Trump is not enough.

Unfortunately a lot of people don’t get it until they hear it over and over and over. Just look what that did for the covid hysteria.

Most people have never heard of him or what he leaked, and why. Even fewer can analyze the great issues involved.

Christ hasn’t been here for 2,000 years do we discount His message? I have been saying things for decades, over and over and yet very few people ever understand what they have been exposed to. Truth needs to be told everyday no matter how repetitive that might be.

Hey Stephanie, you are being a tad judgemental. Put yourself in his shoes. He is where he is to avoid being where Julian Assange is. He has been accused of being a three letter asset and other negatives. Abide by the reminder of not judging someone until you have walked a mile in their moccasins.
In other words, lighten up.

If you gave up everything to expose the things he did, and nothing changed other then your life as it had been up to that point being over, you might be determined to continue trying. Not because your motives are noble, maybe they were when you made your choice, maybe they even still are to a point, but perhaps the real overriding motive to continue trying is because if you stop without having effected any real changes you have to accept the fact that your sacrifice meant nothing and made no difference. That might be too bitter of a pill for him to swallow.

I agree Pogrom, the easy way would be the go hide away and all that you sacrificed would indeed be for naught. I also suspect that he still has friends or family members that he cares for and saying nothing means you abandon them to their fate. Personally… I wouldn’t go quietly either…

Edward Snowden is a CIA spook who defected to Russia. Where have I heard that story before…

Link?
Because not according to Edwards’ book:

THE AGENCIES WERE hiring tech companies to hire kids,
and then they were giving them the keys to the kingdom,
because—as Congress and the press were told—the agencies
didn’t have a choice. No one else knew how the keys, or the
kingdom, worked. I tried to rationalize all this into a pretext for
optimism. […]
In national security contracting, especially in tech contracting,
you often find yourself physically working at an agency facility,
but nominally—on paper—working for Dell, or Lockheed Martin,
or one of the umpteen smaller firms that frequently get bought
by a Dell or a Lockheed Martin. […]
I wish I remembered the exact chronology of my contracting,
but I don’t have a copy of my résumé anymore—that file,
Edward_Snowden_Resume.doc, is locked up in the Documents
folder of one of my old home computers, since seized by the
FBI. I do recall, however, that my first major contracting gig
was actually a subcontracting gig: the CIA had hired BAE
Systems, which had hired COMSO, which hired me.

Sorry, I don’t buy your just believe me stance.

I see two problems in this case:
1. You are not in the slightest indicating where you found “trusted” sources.
2. It is by definition impossible to find information on CIA employment records, as those are not public and everyone claiming to have access to them is also part of an organization known to lie whenever necessary.
So if William Binney said Edward was a CIA employee for 3 years, I would believe him – but anybody under his trust grade I wouldn’t.
3. On the other hand, I haven’t seen Edward ever stating a clear and outrageous lie, so until proof to the contrary is given, I somewhat trust his words.

It’s not that I can’t go back and dig it all back up, more than one source, but I’m not going to waste my time to do so. I was interested in Snowden when the story first broke but not any longer. I found information I believe was credible and moved on. In fact, I didn’t even watch the video above; just read the comments.

I relent, he did work in IT w/ the CIA for three years. All his other employments connected w/ both the NSA and CIA were as a contractor employee. He was never a ‘spook’ or was employed as an intelligence officer.

Personally I’m glad to hear what Snowdon has to say. We often are forced to hear numbskulls like Fauci and Gates, so someone who is aware of the real problems and our future trajectory is welcome in my world. He’s given up so much for his principles that we should all be grateful. I certainly am.

I’m suspicious of Snowden as well. After all, he’s ex CIA and an ex CIA contractor. Maybe he’s in Russia as a spy. Maybe he’s in Russia because he has the goods on the bad guys and could be bumped off. The problem is there’s no clear information on him.

I see Snowden as a man of great introspection in this video. He has consistently shown exceedingly high moral caliber. Some above others obviously don’t- Yeowza!
The sacrifice he has endured for the benefit of mankind is far more than laudable. It’s heroic in my book. I see his voice of defiance to power came at great personal cost. He has irrevocably altered his life negatively to tell us evil people desire t0 do evil things.
In that vein, most of the people who post here are also making at least a small contribution in that fight against the borg and the way forward that we want to see for this world. Thank you all and God bless Edward Snowden.

Auntie didn’t agree; doesn’t agree, and tries to engage in the best forms of Satyagraha against It. Across the spectrum of liberties removed and totalitarian mandates imposed as mentioned by Mr. Snowdon.

And as for motives of the messenger?

Auntie would do anything to get Julian Assange and Edward Snowden exculpated, pardoned, and freed from their gaol and exile. In their particular contexts being the “enemy of the state” is true heroism.

And Auntie continually reflects on why it was that Donald Trump, as President of the United States of America (who pardoned some pretty awful bastards and two vile rappers) should have, somewhere , over the course of four years especially in light of his treatment by The Deep State with two impeachments to ice the cake, done exactly that, but didn’t? Ask yourself that before believing anything spoken from the echo chamber of the televised CPAC convention.

Answer: The Orange Man Bad would certainly have done so, if only just to get back at the horrendously vicious treatment he endured for his term of office, were it not for the Tsar Nicholas II lecture provided sometime from 20 Jan 2017 through 20 Jan 2021 , that’s why.

Americans tend to get outraged with governmental injustices/intrusions and then move on and then repeat the process with the next episode. I’m choosing to reread Albert Jay Nock’s book, first printed in 1935, Our Enemy, the State. I need that cold slap in the face to remind me again and again, that government ain’t about us-it’s about them and their power.
