The Principled Difference Could Make all the Difference

Guest Post by Eric Peters

I listened to South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s speech yesterday; such a contrast – such a tonic for the intellect – vs. the bloviating, belittling incoherence of the Orange Fail.

She elaborated principles, something the OF seems unable to do, probably because he hasn’t got any. I do not mean that as an insult. I mean it as characteristic of many Americans of the Republican persuasion especially, who do not consider particular things in abstract/conceptual terms; who “go with their gut” and “know what they mean.”

Which leaves their meaning as vaporous as a Scottish mist.

The OF failed for exactly this reason. He was defenseless against the principles of the Left. He could not fight the weaponization of hypochondria for the same reason he was unable to do anything fundamental to end – not “repeal and replace” – Obamacare.

In both cases, he was unable to articulate the principles at issue – and apply them.

In the case of Obamacare, the right of free people to decide for themselves whether to buy a health insurance policy or not – as opposed to being told they must not buy this “plan” or that “plan” . . . that is to say, some politician’s “plan.”

Like the Orang Man’s “plan.”

Instead of defending the right of human beings to freely associate – to decide for themselves whether to open or close their businesses (another principle, that of private property) and to decide for themselves whether to enter those businesses, or to wear a “mask” based on their own estimation of the risk and to be left in peace so long as they caused no actual harm to other people – all of it predicated on the principle of self-ownership and all that flows from it – the OF embraced the opposite principle – that the state owns the individual, who is part of a collective he must defer to.

He must submit to “mandates” hurled by political paladins – for the greater good, regardless of the bad imposed on the individual.

The OF stood mute and gelded for months by the side of the Leftist paladin who stole the presidency months before the (s)election of Joe Biden as the replacement president.

Pope Fauci XVII.

This little man took all the Orange Man’s power without the bother of an election. All he had to do was say – boo! – and the Orange Man said moo! He certainly never said anything principled in opposition to the weaponization of hypochondria and the transformation of the United States into a Sickness State.

Contrast what the Orange Failure said about “the deadly China virus” – and what the Orange Failure didn’t say about government assuming outright dictatorial power, rule by decree – the “mandate” predicated on “emergency powers” that never expire – with what Kristi Noem said:

COVID didn’t crush the economy, government crushed the economy.”

“South Dakota is the only state in America that never ordered a single business or church to close. We never instituted a shelter in place order. We never mandated that people wear masks. We never even defined what an essential business is, because I don’t believe that governors have the authority to tell you that your business isn’t essential.”

Principles. Clearly stated, forcefully because morally elaborated. The government  – not “the deadly China virus” – took away your freedom of association, your right to decide for yourself whether “the virus” constituted a greater threat to your well-being and the well-being of those you are responsible for caring for than an arrogant government busybody like Pope Fauci.

She was just warming up.

We have to show people how arbitrary these restrictions are, and the coercion, the force, and the anti-Liberty steps that governments take to enforce them.”

“Our founding fathers established our National Constitution and the people of individual states crafted their own constitutions that place specific limits on the role of government. Those limits are essential to preventing government officials from trampling on people’s rights.”

“The people themselves are primarily responsible for their own health and their wellbeing. They are the ones entrusted with expansive freedoms, the free will to exercise their rights to work, worship and to earn a living. No governor should ever dictate to their people which activities are officially approved or not approved.”

Did you ever hear the Orange Fail speak in such terms – or even speak coherently?

Noem went on to elaborate the principle of personal responsibility – the keystone of personal liberty. The individual has the right to assume responsibility for his life – to take decisions for himself and to enjoy the rewards and assume the risks – because if he does not, then he has no rights at all.

He is livestock.

A sheep.

It was once said that the Left takes its vision seriously, more seriously than it takes the rights of other people. They want to be our shepherds, but that requires us to be the sheep. Let it be heard loud and clear from us right now, we will not be sheep.”

Where was the OF when that needed to be said? He was standing mute beside the man who said – in effect – be sheep. Be quiet. Do not question. Just do as we say.

While OF said . . . nothing.

Here is what Noem said:

We are not here to tell you how to live your life, how to treat you like a child or a criminal because you go to church or you defend yourself.

“Each person, each person deserves the opportunity to build his or her life without some self-important government bureaucrat telling them what they can or what they can’t do.”

This is how serious adults speak – and it is how the Left is beaten. Not by ridiculing Leftist politicians because they’re senescent or hair-plugged or unappealing personally but by challenging their principles rather than acquiescing to them, as the Orange Fail did.

Which is why he failed.

And would, again – whether on purpose or not.

Because you cannot fight an opponent you are unable to disagree with.

Noem has articulated principled disagreement using complete sentences that logically follow, one after the other. She was coherent. She was classy. Most of all, she made sense – in the literal meaning of the term.  An intelligible, reasoned identification of the fundamental issues on the table and a principled elaboration of  why it matters to defend them.

As opposed to bellowing about “our great America” . . . whatever that means.

It’s hard to argue your points. Trump did manage to get a few things accomplished, but think of how much more he could have managed had he been able to articulate rather than speculate. I’m still grateful for the additional 4 years of semi-freedom under him though; it could have been worse. But, moving forward, we need actionable plans with outcomes that benefit patriots, while stuffing opposing forces behind the seat cushions.

Really, Kristi? How about if you voted to legalize cannabis in your state? That really pissed you off.

Well, I admit that Kristi isn’t a bureaucrat. She’s a self important elected official, so it’s OK for her to tell you what to do, right?

She was willing to sue her constituents after they voted to be left alone, for one thing. It was shut down with a ruling by her pet judge on procedure and it will come back up. Watch what little miss conservatard does when it gets passed as a law.

This ain’t even about what weed does or doesn’t do. It’s about what she claimed in her speech, that she thought people should be free of being told what to do and what not to do. She showed herself to be a fucking hypocrite.

don’t you just hate the one trick pony guys. One topic over and over again.
By the way, could you elaborate on how Cannabis leads to serious physical and mental problems?
You do know that Dihydrogen Oxide in large amounts can lead to serious physical and mental problems?
Unlike alcohol which has minimal medical use ( I think the last use is for antifreeze poisoning ) Cannabis has VERIFIED medical use. As far as safety goes the buzz of a good sativa is very similar to alcohol. You can not overdose and die from cannabis. Every year multiple children AND adults die from alcohol poisoning.

WE NEED TO DO IT FOR THE CHILDREN.

Like any drug, be it chemical or natural, it can have some good effects and some not so good effects and it differs from person to person. People should stop making mass generalizations about how good or bad pot is. It can be very helpful in some areas for some people and not so much for others.

Alcohol on the other hand, the only benefit I can figure is that it tastes pretty good in beer, wine and other spirits.

It appears the governor is esteemed by many out-of-staters. What may not be known by some is the
“self-important government bureaucrat” mayors and city councils shut down what they deemed as nonessential businesses and the public parks were closed. Last summer, the swimming pools weren’t allowed to be opened in Rapid City. The mayor and council tried to enforce a mask mandate, but we the people made our position know. The mask mandate was changed to allow businesses to choose whether they wanted customers to wear masks. Of course, the government buildings enforce a mask mandate.

RIGHT ON! I cannot understand why Trump’s supporters give him a pass on 2020. He stood by and allowed Fauci to destroy MILLIONS of people’s lives without ever articulating that America is about freedom. There is no asterisk in the Constitution or Bill of Right that says “*unless there’s a virus going around”. But the Trump loyalists invested so much of their personality in him that they cannot allow any serious criticism because they would have to admit being wrong. One of the great mysteries to me about Trump is how he couldn’t effectively control the leadership of the “Deep State” and the US Military by simply firing some people. I have heard and read all kinds of excuses for this and maybe they are legit, but…

For example, Obama inherited a “war” military, if you will (meaning the flag ranks had just had 3-5 years of combat and had been promoted under the ostensibly pro-miltary regime of Bush/Cheney). Yet Obama managed to purge the leadership of generals and admirals that didn’t follow his political agenda. Sure, he had two terms to do it, but he did it.

Trump seems to have failed entirely to gain control of the leadership and direction of the U.S. Military, a military of which the POTUS is literally the Commander in Chief. “This is a direct order, general.” and /or “You are relieved of command, admiral.” seemed to have worked for the 44 Presidents prior to Trump. If Obama could do it, why couldn’t Trump?

Same with the Civil Service. Reagan fired 11,000 air traffic controllers NOT for striking, but for refusing a direct order to return to work. Getting fired from the civil service is not easy, BUT it IS possible, especially when the POTUS is the guy who fires you.

It literally takes years of litigation, time and money to fight termination from federal service, while ALL federal benefits, health care, salary, pension, retirement plan etc essentially vaporize when a person is terminated. All of the years you are separated, you are not receiving a dime. Your mortgage is due, your debts must be paid, you have to eat, your kids need new shoes, etc… And your job prospects for the civilian market are what, exactly? Probably not even close to the salary and benefits you just lost.

The very threat of having to go through all of that AND to have to engage a lawyer and fight against the very system that terminated your employment while you’re no longer drawing a salary is a daunting task, especially since you have a great chance of failing. Just ask those 11,000 fired controllers how many of them got a federal job back. The answer is, fewer than a thousand IF that many. The average government bureaucrat doesn’t have the chops to take a chance on termination.

FBI agents, Department of State employees, CIA employees etc ALL work for the civil service (I’m not talking contractors, I am talking Feds). LEO’s in particular are just trying to make it to retirement. “You’re fired” blows a huge icy hole in that endeavor.

I’m not trying to bash Trump. I honestly just don’t understand why the guy who was allegedy famous for saying “you’re fired” didn’t seem to have the balls to fire anyone who was already working for him, not to mention the crappy staff and cabinet people selected for him by RINO, Incorporated.

Not only hiring bad picks but then goes from bad to worse in those picks. What he should have done, aside from hiring OUTSIDE the swamp, would be to fire those that recommended the horrid picks.

If Byron was right then Trump knowingly kept these swamp rats in place and at his shoulders. If the statement was true that Trump looked at him and stated, “See, this is what I have been working with all this time” ( something close to that effect) If Trump was to stupid to clear out the WH, like ALL PAST Presidents, then he was complicit in the take over by the communists. Is he a non-interventionist or is he one of those “fight them over there so we don’t have to fight them here” types? I don’t know. He is definitely well to the right side of the median voter, though, so it’s hard to imagine that if Trump had demanded that there be zero Covid restrictions, that he’d have fared better. Even if his actions were perfectly attenuated, what was the fucking point of being on TV speculating about treatments – disinfectants, ultraviolet light. The fact that he never actually used the word “bleach” isn’t the point. It’s that he was always winging it. Politicians can’t do that. It’s like playing a guitar solo without knowing what key the song is in. So I’d say Trump’s problem was less that he is devoid of principles, it’s that he has no message discipline, he trusts untrustworthy people and he hires the worst people – starting with his son in law.

I drove across the whole state and only saw about 30 people. How she managed to get in the top 8 of per capita Covid deaths in a state that’s mostly tumbleweeds is beyond me. “How she managed to get in the top 8 of per capita Covid deaths in a state that’s mostly tumbleweeds is beyond me.”

It’s really simple: the State Department of Health codes every death within a period of time after a positive PCR test as a COVID death.

The number is bullshit, and almost 80% of the deaths are people 70+ who have comorbidities. The numbers are faked to make Noem look bad. The Democrats here can’t win elections, so they have infiltrated all of the state bureaucracies instead.

That’s true in every state, though.

Gov. Noem looked mighty tight and toned in that shift.

Nah. It’s just that I’m not so deprived that I would fuck a rosebush if there was a snake hiding in it, like most GOPtards are. I’ve seen the same bunch of assholes raving over little pizza face Tulsi.

They all seem to have ONE item they can be principled on. Sadly, they nearly ALL go off the rails with ideological inconsistency when other issues are raised. She is absolutely NO DIFFERENT.

America is now past politics, and she is definitely not dressed appropriately for these new operating conditions.

I for one, am MASTER OF MY FATE. I dont blame ANYONE for my personal {PROBLEMS.
If the MAN I voted for back in 2016 made a few mistakes ….SO BE IT.
Not a whole lot of folks in D.C. were on board with his VISION, WE ALL found out the hard way.
Should he decide to RUN for Prez. AGAIN, I will strongly consider him! Should he pick a replacement, I will strongly consider his choice!

DAMN the TORPEDOS!

Damn, son. You’ve caught the random capitalization virus from Dan. Now you can look like a fucktard with that, to go with your can’t spell virus. Run and get a vaccination while the line is short.

I liked the speech but a bit too libertarian/conservative for me. Hawley seems to get it more. Populism/Nationalism that is not anti-white is the new direction – by necessity.
