It is my sincere desire to provide readers of this site with the best unbiased information available, and a forum where it can be discussed openly, as our Founders intended. But it is not easy nor inexpensive to do so, especially when those who wish to prevent us from making the truth known, attack us without mercy on all fronts on a daily basis. So each time you visit the site, I would ask that you consider the value that you receive and have received from The Burning Platform and the community of which you are a vital part. I can't do it all alone, and I need your help and support to keep it alive. Please consider contributing an amount commensurate to the value that you receive from this site and community, or even by becoming a sustaining supporter through periodic contributions. Great series of philosophical and psychological discussions pertinent to today’s societal malaises
In particular is the discussion titled, “Is Mass Psychosis the Greatest Threat to Humanity?”
I don’t get it. I assume this is a metaphor? Or a palindrome?
Are you saying that mass psychosis explains the spread of Libertarianism?
Makes sense, as much as anything else.
That wasn’t obvious?
Right. Thanks. Regardless of 4th turnings, this covid hysteria is a pretty common type event, alarming and soul crashing as it is. Someone is always manufacturing a crisis and sheeple are always running off cliffs at their direction.
Correct. However, the worrying difference today, Ken, is that for the first time in history, the psychopaths have the technology to create mass hysteria and convert it into global power. We shall see.
Massive wisteria. The bines that twine & bind, invade & displace. Spoke to an older couple in Bozeman who were unhappy about being displaced by the invasive CA maple sapple pouring in there. Saw more way CAs in Whitefish than MTs. But can hysteria withstand those winters? Locals bet/hope not too much. Thin reed that, says I.
“MEN, IT HAS BEEN WELL SAID, THINK IN HERDS; IT WILL BE SEEN THAT THEY GO MAD IN HERDS, WHILE THEY ONLY RECOVER THEIR SENSES SLOWLY, ONE BY ONE.” ―
CHARLES MACKAY, Excerpt from book, “EXTRAORDINARY POPULAR 1 DELUSIONS AND THE MADNESS OF CROWDS” — 160 years ago in 1841
Just finished the grand-daddy of them all: Charles Mackay’s “Memoirs of extraordinary popular delusions and the madness of crowds”. What we are seeing with the China flu hysteria fits perfectly with his opening statement: “”Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, one by one.” It seems we are well into the second phrase of Mackay’s sentence.
