Speaking of Nazis…… I read today that the French have FINALLY started calling this vaccine tyranny and the monsters who push it Nazis. They are out in force protesting and equating this to the Nazis during WWII. The Brits and Americans should join in as NOW is the time to label this FOR WHAT IT IS. PUT the RIGHT NAME on this NOW….. NAZI TYRANNY.

We were both doing a NACA showcase for the South Central block in Houston the Summer of ’94. His agent came up to me right before I went onstage and told me to that I needed to change my name because people confused us. He’d just gone on and bombed- there were probably 3K students in the auditorium- and I went on and killed, standing O, and my agent booked the entire year off of that performance. When I came off stage my rep went up to his agent and said “I don’t think there’ll be any confusion after today.”
To be fair I’d been doing colleges for almost two years straight and I knew the audiences, he was an L.A. club comic who was playing mostly for other comics and industry types. College students wanted someone funny, not some dour guy talking about how bad his life sucked. He stuck it out and finally found his niche with the podcast thing. He had a serial show about his life that was actually quite good a few years back. I’m glad he stuck with it and finally got the recognition he was looking for. It’s a lot tougher business than people imagine.
And I’m really glad I met my wife and then got the hell out.
A perfect example of how some people have to get by on actual talent while others just have the right names, for show biz. Just a quick glance on Paramount Plus’ so-called Comedy movies section shows the following stand-up comic’s specials: Mark Normand, Rachel Feinstein, Nick Morril, Amy Schumer, Ari Shaffir, Artie Lange, Chris Hardwick, Esther Povitsky, Eugene Mirman… I don’t know, it just seems like there’s something in common with all these “comics.” I can’t quite put my finger on it though. I’d be willing to bet the other Marc benefited from this strange commonality in some way.
I’m glad you met your wife and got out too.
