On occasion, celebrating the midweek hump with an eclectic selection of the most disrespectful, impolite, disgraceful, head-banging, disturbing, badass, depraved, rebellious, decadent, kick-butt, or just plain enjoyable rock n roll of its time feels like a perfectly responsible thing to do, for some reason. Or no reason at all. Crank it up!
Trigger Warning: If you need a trigger warning, please considering self-culling – it’s the right thing to do!
One of the great crooners, Orbison was a Silent, part of the long evolution of blues into rock n roll. Roy Orbison and Friends – Dream Baby
Nice British girls. Girlschool – Race With The Devil
Japanese-style. BAND-MAID – Thrill
Long live Hollywood – not. Murderdolls – Dead In Hollywood
Your future is dark. ELEINE – Ava Of Death
Glad to see Band-Maid in the list. Adding a couple more recent vids people here might enjoy in case they haven’t heard of this IMO amazingly good band.
They sound like a Jap version of Paramore; maybe a little heavier. Technically talented and well produced, songwriting not that original though IMHO. It still good to see metal remaining culturally embedded in Japanese music culture.
Agreed re the songwriting – I find that a fair number of otherwise excellent players and bands suffer from a similar problem. There’s still and always will be an intangible element to songwriting that eludes rigorous analyses and formulas, in part because what makes a song great is dependent on the culture of its time.
Always enjoyed just about everything Roy put out; can’t say the same for the kid singing next to him-in fact, can’t identify with a single song that guy did.
Yup. He doesn’t manage to spoil this clip though. 🙂
Damn……,sorry I am late!
As I mentioned when posting said song yesterday was going to put here today, was my original plan but the end of the world and all feeling fit the article yesterday.
Anyhow, again,Iron Maidens newest tune with a excellent video.
The song has a acoustic/western twng sound to it along with roaring guitars, this is definitely a new sound from Maiden but I adter hearing 6 times am really liking it.
You did not see it yesterday give it a spin, even if you are not a Maiden fan feel most will like this song, and……,you heard yesterday give her another spin,it grows on you!
This song rocks. Love the video too.
PS. It’s still Wednesday so you aren’t late.
Leah, just try and get some stuff in early in the day to encourage others to post/read the posts.
I love in the video Eddie(Maidens mascot)closes the eyes of the dead rocker and unleashes the 4 birds who become the 4 horsemen,Eddie seems the good guy in this whole tale though the ending with apple, well……,try and try again I guess!
I also love maidens 747 wrecked in the desert with Eddies head on the tail.
James, earlier is better and not always possible. This complements the Sunday Classics pieces, so happy that Karalan continues to post. Will check out the other Iron Maiden songs.
Check out Rime Of The Ancient Mariner based off of the classic Coleridge poem, the live version, tis thinking mans metal.
Nice tune! Good to see the Maiden still rocks.
“A land of hope and glory building graveyards for the brave.” The story of empires.
In Dreams is my Orbison favorite. I never was a rocker. Melody for me.
Thanks for continuing your rockin’ posts. Halfway to the weekend! Written for a different reason, but appropriate in today’s times. Don’t trust the needle or what is housed in the syringe.
Thanks again for posting.
The needle has a whole new meaning these days, deadlier then what the older songs like this/Needle And The Spoon?Night Train/ ect. were talking about.
I was never a big fan of Roy in his solo stuff but loved him as one of the Willberries(spelling?)and always thought Halen did justice and respect to their cover of Pretty Woman.
James, Yes. The experimental gene therapy is shady to put it politely. Not what Queensryche had in mind when singing about a needle.
My dad loved Orbison. It was his weekend must listen, along with others. It was menacing to a little kid who loved punk rock and everything that rocked. As bad as this sounds, Orbison’s voice is nails on a blackboard. Van Halen’s version of Pretty Woman was ok to listen.
One of the early prog rock bands, always liked their sound.
Glad you’re enjoying HDT.
