A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.
Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.
We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.
Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.
We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.
A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.
We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Gershwin: An American in Paris
Today, I’d like to revisit the music of the great George Gershwin.
George Gershwin born Jacob Gershwine; September 26, 1898 – July 11, 1937) was an American pianist and composer, whose compositions spanned both popular and classical genres. Among his best-known works are the orchestral compositions Rhapsody in Blue (1924) and An American in Paris (1928) the songs Swanee (1919) and Fascinating Rhythm (1924), the jazz standards Embraceable You (1928) and I Got Rhythm (1930) and the opera Porgy and Bess (1935) which included the hit Summertime.
I want to start with a personal favorite, “An American In Paris.” It is performed here by The Frankfurt Radio Symphony once again with the Maestro Andres Orozco-Estrada conducting.

Heaven help us…
THANKS again much much for all your wonderful works all these many months!!
Gershwin absolutely needs more exposure, and this piece is a favorite.
Gershwin is a favorite – especially “An American in Paris.” I’m glad that you enjoyed it, and I’m certain that Steve will slot your offerings in in the near future. They are all very good. We thank you for your input.
The two rousing Prokofiew pieces should get your blood pumping. The hands on the keyboard are mesmerizing!

Especially the second one is breathtaking!
It is indeed very good. Interesting that Ursel would choose it today as my Mother loved Prokofiev and taught my brothers and I his famous piece “Peter and The Wolf” at a very early age. I believe that I was only five. I still love it. She was a brilliant lady that taught us much -especially about classical music. So, here you go…..
Thanks ursel.
We’ll use all three on June the 19th and as always credit you for them.
Thank you guys for the brightening of my morning!
Thank you for tuning us in. We are grateful.
